Hi. For some time now I’ve had invasive thoughts come to my mind from time-to-time that are aimed at cursing the Holy Spirit or God. I’ve always tried to cut it off at the instant I perceive them. Sometimes I get “F the–” before I cut the thought off.

Lately, it’s been happening more frequently, and all last night and even now it has been happening none stop. The full curse-thought has managed to slip into my mind twice last night and a couple of times. I’ve prayed for God to have mercy on me a sinner and the Lord’s Prayer as I resist, and try to focus on other things. I’ll pray to God, read scripture, sing praise songs. It just wouldn’t stop no matter how hard I tried and how much I tried. Yeah, I don’t will any of it to enter my mine and I don’t consent and I’m just sick of these thoughts and temptations to provoke the unforgiveable sin. I need prayers. I hope I didn’t commit the unforgiveable sin if the thought entered my mind but I feel tormented by these thoughts and worn down by them. And I wish they’d go away. Anyone else struggle with this. It’s really counterproductive and is playing off my fear of committing the unforgiveable sin. I often pray to God “your will be done and not mine.” And I keep in mind that this may be happening in order to teach me about self control in other areas of my life. I currently have a masterbation and porn addiction which I’m using the same methods to be self-controlled and it has worked. But still. I hope I didn’t commit the unforgiveable sin. There was one time in the past I got tired of the thoughts and said “Okay fine, and cursed God in my mine” to make it go away. Then I asked God to forgive me. I thought that I might have some disorder.

Praying to the Holy Spirit to give you guidance, direction, strength, fortitude & wisdom to overcome your temptations.

It happens to me too sometimes when I am meditating and praying. Actually, I wouldn’t be surprised if it doesn’t happen to many people. I believe it’s the enemy trying to distract you as well as make you feel like you’ve done something wrong. Our minds are not only filled with our own thoughts- the Holy Spirit and our angels are able to speak to us in our minds. The same goes for the enemy… which is clever- because it causes us to feel like we were the ones actually thinking it!
God knows your heart- he knows what’s happening… I don’t believe you have sinned.

Jesus’ name is a very powerful weapon for us. When my thoughts stray like this and get out of control- or anytime I am scared, I stop everything. Close my eyes and meditate in Jesus’ name while breathing deeply. (Inhale “Je”- --exhale-“sus”). My parents taught me that as a child and I can’t begin to tell you just how well it works.

I’ve even gone as far as to say out loud “in the name of Jesus- my saviour- I command you to LEAVE ME ALONE”.

Pray the Hail Mary as well- she will intercede for you.

God Bless and keep you. Don’t be so hard on yourself- it isn’t you- it’s our pesky enemy trying to bring you down… and he can only win if you let him in. Command him to get lost, in the name of Jesus.

Saint Michael, the archangel, defend us in battle, be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the devil, may God rebuke him, we humbly pray. And do you, O’ Prince of the Heavenly host, by the power of God thrust into Hell Satan and all the other evil spirits who prowl about the world for the ruin of souls.

Amen.

†

Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Amen.

†

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.

Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.

Amen.

Prayer for a Miracle

God of all creation, you who spoke a simple command and brought forth light from
the darkness, I ask you now to send forth your miracle-working power to heal Cyril Of Canada. You cleansed the lepers, opened the eyes of the blind and by
speaking a simple command, you empowered the crippled to rise up and walk.
You sent forth your life-giving power to all those in need, including those you raised from
the dead. I ask you to send forth your healing power into Cyril Of Canada’s body and give him the strength to fight his illness. I ask this through my Lord, Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen

Prayer to Our Lady of Mental Peace

O Lady of Mental Peace,
Mother of Tranquility
and Mother of Hope,
look upon Cyril Of Canada in this time
of weakness and unrest.

Teach her searching heart
to know that God’s Love
for her is unchanging and
unchangeable, and, that
true human love can only
begin and grow by touching
His Love.

Let your gentle Peace -
which this world cannot give
  • be always with her.
And, help her to bring this
    same Peace into the lives
    of others.
Our Lady of Mental Peace,
  • Pray for us!
    Amen.
Jesus, Help Me!

In every need let me come to You with humble trust,
saying:
Jesus, help me!
In all my doubts, perplexities, and temptations:
Jesus, help me!
In hours of loneliness, weariness and trials:
Jesus, help me!
In the failure of my plans and hopes, in disappointments,
troubles and sorrows:
Jesus, help me!
When others fail me, and Your Grace alone can assist me:
Jesus, help me!
When I throw myself on Your tender Love as Savior:
Jesus, help me!
When my heart is cast down by failure, at seeing no good
come from my efforts:
Jesus, help me!
When I feel impatient, and my cross irritates me:
Jesus, help me!
When I am ill, and my head and hands cannot work and
I am lonely:
Jesus, help me!

Always, always, in spite of weakness, falls and short-
comings of every kind:
Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, help me and never forsake me!

Amen

Your prayers must be really pleasing to God if Satan is taking up so much time to attack you when you pray! Keep praying!

How does Satan go about attacking me. I have these thoughts that pop up into my mind but
certainly it isn’t a demon whispering to me, is it? I hear no audible demon; just a thought pops into my mind and I do my best to will it to go away and practice self-control.

Just like God and his angels can put thoughts into your mind, so can the devil. God does it to inspire us- to give us answers we’ve been seeking. Satan does it to tempt us and to discourage us. He plants the seed and hopes you run with it.

He isn’t about to whisper obsenities into your ear audibly- he’d send you running in the oposite direction- right through the church doors. He’s cunning.

Something happened to me a few years ago- I hope you don’t mind me sharing… because it solidifies my belief that the Divine can influence our thoughts (and so- I too believe the enemy can work that way). It was my second attempt at my faith journey (a constant work in progress for me)… I had been reciting my rosary daily for about 2 weeks…

I got in my car with my son to go pumpkin picking for the day with my cousin and his family. AS SOON as I closed my car door- a thought entered my brain “where is your car ownership and proof of insurance?”. It was honestly the Loudest thought I had ever experienced. It was as if I had been smacked in the head… it came out of nowhere. It was litterally as if my own brain had shouted at me. It was so bizarre. I looked everywhere and couldn’t find it. I realized then that I would either have to go without- or cancel our week long plan because we needed 2 vehicles to get everyone there. I decided to go anyway. I’m no speedster- the odds of me being pulled over are practically nil… so we went.

On our way back, I got caught up talking with my cousin’s wife and before I knew it- I saw a cop car up ahead signaling- he was about to pull a u turn. I checked my speed… I was going 121 km/hour… in an 80 zone.

He pulled me over. Speeding fine- $350. Not sure how many demerit points- but i’m sure it would have been many. No ownership- $150. No proof of insurance- $60. The stern looking officer went back to his car for what seemed to be 2 hours. My protestant cousin’s wife sat in the passenger seat praying out loud to God for his help. While I prayed to St Michael (the patron saint of police officers)… asking he soften the officer’s heart.

The officer came back and told me he was giving me an early Christmas present- he said he had been in his car the whole time trying to figure out a way to completely let me off- but he had to fine me for something- so he fined me $60 for not having my proof of insurance. I teared up and the only words I could manage to get out of my mouth were “God Bless You officer!”… and I truly meant it… i had never uttered those words before… for fear of insulting someone’s sensibilities. The look on his face was indescribable.

I only remembered the warning I had gotten when getting in the car that morning after dropping off my cousin at home. All of the pieces came together in that instance and I realized that my angel had warned me. He had warned me and allowed me to continue because he KNEW that I would get pulled over and that the experience would show me that God was hearing my prayers.

That was only one of my experiences since I started my faith journey- and to tell you the truth- it pales in comparison with a much more profound experience I had a short while later. How I am still plagued with doubts after having been given the gifts I’ve been given is beyond me… but I gather much strength from thinking back on them… and telling others about them. It reminds me that we’re not alone… and we are loved.

God Bless you- keep praying to HIM and He’ll help you shut the enemy up. Satan will always be close trying to deter you- especially when you are drawing nearer to God. Keep your chin up- it only means you’re doing something right!

Thanks Joelle M.
Thank you for sharing with me your story. I appreciate it.
I’d like to respond by saying that I once dabbed in the occult.
The most startling event and experience that happened to me was when I woke up one night when everyone was asleep, wide-awake. Lights on in the bedroom. I heard an audible voice speaking to me, and it wasn’t friendly from what I remember. I can’t remember the words but clearly no one was there and I was wide-awake and am sane. At the time I brushed it off as a ghost speaking out loud to me like some haunted house occurance. I found it so bizarre at the time and it never ever happened again.

Looking back, I think it was probably a case of demon obsession because quite a bit of strange things happened at the time that seemed to fit the bill of a haunted house.

Yeah, as soon as I began going to a baptist church, all that paranormal stuff went away. I do recall one time a few years ago where someone got me interested to watch Ghost Adventurers and three of us started to binge watch the series. They talked about going to haunted houses to search for ghosts and I declined and disagreed because it was basically chasing after devils. And then some paranormal things happened at my home. I really think that when we even entertain ourselves after these kind of shows we seemingly invite that kind of activity to occur in our lives.

Eek! That would have terrified me. Did this happen while you were dabbling?

I agree with you. The time in your life you had been dabbling could have left you suceptible to unwanted attention. Can I make a suggestion? Talk to a priest about it… ask him for a special blessing. I’m not saying that you’re being oppressed, only a professional could truly say- but it couldn’t hurt. I read a story about a now priest that got deep into hindu meditations for years. He was very involved for a time- did meditations that involved invoking spirits for a long time. When he finally stopped and joined the clurgy- he had a hard time. He went to a seminar eventually on new age practices- to learn about the dangers and realized that all of the chants he had done- were actually powerful incantations- and he was worried that those spirits- or rather demons- had attached themselves to him. They got a bunch of priests together to pray over him and he denounced each and every “diety” that he had once invoked. He said that when he finally finished- he felt free- and light as a feather.

I think everytime someone dabbles in this stuff, they bring a bit of darkness onto themselves. They open the door just a little wider… and as they continue- they fall deeper and deeper down the rabbit hole. Again- not saying you need an exorcism… or that you are being oppressed- but IMO- the devil is fighting to keep you away from God. He had you headed in his direction before and he sees himself losing you now so he’s working doubly hard to keep you.

A blessing and a a solid confession might make all the difference.

St. Raphael, pray for us. St. Gabriel, patron of words, pray for us. St. Lawrence, St. Augustine, pray for us. Amen.

Thank you for all the replies. I really appreciate the comfort and encouragement I have received from here. I think I’ll end this thread now because my concerns have been largely addressed. I’ll need to start a new thread about the topic of occult experiences.

I think that sometimes the thought of saying, thinking or doing something rebellious or forbidden is still in our minds and hard to shake as a thought even though we realize its wrong and would never act upon it or say it with full mental intent. But it can be hard to dismiss it from our minds without at least the thought of it popping up. It’s like me telling you right now not to think about apples. Hard not too.

When I know that some blasphemous thought is going to pop up I try to imagine St. Michael casting Satan into the lake of fire, or Mary crushing the serpents head under her heal until I’m past it.

Offering prayers for you…+
