I was quite incensed by remarks made in another forum by an anti-Catholic about the cases of child and sexual abuse in the Catholic Church. I am aware that these things are happening in the non-Catholic churches as well. I just need some links which support this fact.

I personally know two Protestant Ministers who while married, cheated on their wives. All this while married. I believe this problem is much greater in the full scope of protestantism, but of course, this scandal will never surface in the national Medias radar screen…

In Christ!

I guess the problem with this type of discussion is like asking who has abused more, us or them? That we are not as bad as others or vice versa. As you would agree, any abuse from whoever it is, is bad. Understand one thing though, if someone hates the Catholic Church because it is what it is, then no matter what you say, it will have little effect in trying to change their mentality of it. We should accept that there have been abuses by certain members of the church but that should in no way reflect on the church as a whole, given the numerous saints it has produced. I would rather say that, yes there have been a small number of clergy in the church that have abused their position (similar percentage to non-Catholic / non-religious men) but all the rest have not and have given us great examples to look up to.

Well, first stay off those anti-Catholic forums.😉
Second, the numbers tell the real story. Compare the number of priests worldwide to the number of Protestant ministers worldwide. It’s like comparing Andre the Giant to Pee-Wee Herman.
Thirdly, when a person brings up the abuse allegations, it means they have reached the end of their rationale. They cannot answer the Biblical and docrinal questions so they are going for blood. It’s the end of the discussion. It does no good to the discussion to bring up Protestant scandals.
Stay out of the mud.

Why? So that you can throw the same stone at someone else? The argument will not be won in this way. In fact, there is simply nothing to “win” at all. What happened within the Church was horrible and whether we try to turn it around and say, “you guys do it too” doesn’t make it any less horrible. The only real argument to be made is to simply point out that the sin was committed by individual men, NOT the Church herself and certainly not all priests. If that is not good enough for the one whom you are discussing this subject with, perhaps you should simply shake off the dust from your sandals and move on.
