Wow. 😦

That’s enough to throw anyone for a loop.

The funeral home where you did her funeral should have counseling services available. If they didn’t offer them to you at the time of the funeral, just call them up again and ask. Mention that you’re having trouble fitting in at school, and feeling left out of things you used to enjoy, as well as experiencing a very natural sense of shock and grief.

Mention that you’re Catholic, as well - I don’t know whether they will match you with a Catholic counselor, but they will at least find someone who isn’t hostile to religion.
Didn’t use a funeral home. Either way, i’m not really open to psychological help. My father vigorously insisted throughout my childhood receiving such care would label you mentally unstable and prevent employment for the government (what I plan to do when I finish my degree’s). So that’s sort of off the table.

Maybe I should get a online dating account

I just need to get out and get away.

I felt the same way. Which is what kept me from diving into that tank to help with my addictions. So I know what you mean.

Good idea actually. Give it a try. 👍

It’s not the same as what people with mental illnesses go to; it’s just someone who is there to listen to you, when the things you need to say aren’t really suited for the people you live with.

Thank you for sharing that, and I’m so very sorry for your loss.

I lost my mother August 30, 2012 and it has not been easy. For a while I thought about joining a support group or going for grief counseling, but it really wasn’t for me. The greatest support for me was in my family and some very close friends. As odd as this may sound, I also found a great deal of comfort in online friends; both here on CAF and in some groups I joined on Facebook that were dedicated to people dealing with melanoma and their families.

One thing that sticks in my mind is how a friend described grief to me. It’s like a lightning bolt. It keeps zig zagging. Some days you’re up; some days you’re down. At first, all my days were down, and now I find that the really intense grief will hit me at the oddest times. Something very random will make me think of my mother and I will just fall apart. Or something will happen and my first thought will still be to pick up the phone and call her.

I don’t know if this is helpful or not. Your loss was so very recent, give yourself time to just feel what you are feeling - all the good, the bad, and the ugly that comes with losing someone you love so very dearly.
