Sorry to disapoint but I gave my source. I did not, and I repeat, I did not get it from any site they you claim I did so they get no credit. I canāt help it if you cannot accept where I got my info from. Once again I got it from a brown leather Bible called Life Application Study Bible, New Living Translation, copyright 1988,89,90, 91, 93, 96 by Tyndale House Plublisher, Inc. Wheaton Il. 60189, Not plagiarizing. This is where I got it, accept it or not. I also looked up the word faith in the Catholic Encylopedia and it pretty much says the same thing. Now my question has not been answered.rev kevin,
I think the point is, donāt plagiarize. If you copied and pasted from some other source, give them some credit.
Unless youāre suggesting these are your wordsā¦

I re-read Rom 1:17 and I did not see the words āfaith aloneā in it. You brought up Lutherās belief in the justifications by faith alone. JonNC made a good post on the Lutheran position with a link on the* āJoint Declarationā *which is well worth reading. I am convinced that a lot of the problem is how different Christians (Protestant + Catholics) define faith. I donāt know of any Protestants who would say that saving faith would not be alive with works. Nor have I ever heard a Catholic say one does not need faith.Hi. Iām looking for some understanding on Romans 1:17 (St. Paul was referring to Habakkuk 2:4), particularly āThe just shall live by faith.ā This might be called Lutherās proof text for his reformational doctrine of justification by faith alone. Thanks!
In what manner it is to be understood, that the impious is justified by faith, and gratuitously.
God bless youAnd whereas the Apostle saith, that man is justified by faith and freely, those words are to be understood in that sense which the perpetual consent of the Catholic Church hath held and expressed; to wit, that we are therefore said to be justified by faith, because faith is the beginning of human salvation, the foundation, and the root of all Justification; without which it is impossible to please God, and to come unto the fellowship of His sons: but we are therefore said to be justified freely, because that none of those things which precede justification-whether faith or works-merit the grace itself of justification. For, if it be a grace, it is not now by works, otherwise, as the same Apostle says, grace is no more grace.
Yes, Wm. I read a bit in the link for context, and I believe what the commnetary says seems to indicate what I was, maybe less artfully, trying to say. From the Haydocks Catholic Bible commentary (LINK)
Ver. 17. For the justice of God. He does not here mean that justice, by which God is just in himself, but that justice, or sanctification, which he communicates to men, and by which they are justified and sanctified. ā From faith to faith. That is, by faith, and an increase in faith, inasmuch as, by increasing in faith, we advance in virtues; as it is written, (Habacuc ii. 4.) the just man liveth by faith; including the love of God, hope, and other virtues. (Witham)
Jon I think this is saying the same thing you are, just in a differing way. Your thoughts. Peace
As do we all, and he did so, and it was not an antiCatholic website.Neither did I. Rev needs to cite his sources though.
God bless
I hate to disagree with you but actually he didnāt. If he would have I wouldnāt said anything about it. After he was called on it, he did. Where Rev said he got the info was not anti-Catholic, where I found it was. I will trust rev that he got the info where he said he did and not from where I found it.As do we all, and he did so, and it was not an antiCatholic website.![]()
Good. Now there is one less thing that divides usYes, Wm. I read a bit in the link for context, and I believe what the commnetary says seems to indicate what I was, maybe less artfully, trying to say.
Jon
faith is a workWhat does Paul mean when, in Romans, he speaks of āsaving faith?ā
We must be very careful to understand faith as Paul uses the word because he ties faith so closely to salvation. It is not something we must do in order to earn salvation
Welcome Returning,
Romans 1: 17 " The upright man finds life through faith".
God offers us the gift of faith through Jesus. Faith makes Jesus death on the cross effective in man. Faith is necessary to ensure this.
By taking up our own cross daily and following the way of Jesus and by keeping true to all he has commanded of us.Peace, Carlan
:hug1::kiss4you:I had a hard economic year last yearā¦went outside to this gardenā¦this Scripture quote came to mindā¦I am not looking at a Bible right nowā¦āIf you would have faith the size of a mustard seed, you could move a mountaināā¦
Life is hard. When I read Romans 1:17 what I am reading is to live in faith and that is hope realizedā¦we must believe that the Lord truly loves each one of usā¦and when things become overbearing, we must ask the Lord to make our burden light, and to conquer the current darkness into light, using our faith in Him.
Faith is depending on God for your sustenance and not man. āNothing is impossible with Godā.
**āFor in it the righteousness of God is revealed through faith for faith; as it is written, āThe one who is righteous will live by faith.āāHi. Iām looking for some understanding on Romans 1:17 (St. Paul was referring to Habakkuk 2:4), particularly āThe just shall live by faith.ā This might be called Lutherās proof text for his reformational doctrine of justification by faith alone.
