I think everyone is different. Personally, I would LOVE a date at a science museum, but that’s probably because I am a total museum nerd, lol.
Good for you. 😃 And you also like computers, aww.
I would be thrilled if a guy came up with that idea on his own!
Good for you again. 😃
But, I also know a lot of girls who wouldn’t like it at all. 😃
Unfortunately, most of them would not. 😉
(If you do go, you might want to pick a time that’s not a “field trip day”; my nearest science museum was completely full of screaming children the last time I went, which would probably not be conducive to a nice date, lol.)
But it makes for a loooong funny memory and a story to tell the grandchildren. 😃

Same with the teddy bear, I’m sure some people would like it, but I’m not sure that I’m one of them.

Drop the teddy bear. Bad idea….

Science museum sounds appalling.

Go to the pub. Have a few beers (without getting sloppy). Then you will both loosen up and talk freely.
Go to one of those pubs that has billiards and darts, and have her a game or two. It’ll be a night to remember. 🙂

Other memorable dates from my dating days:

Breakfast at Denny’s at 6:00 in the morning.

Bike riding on the Memorial Drive bike path with our fishing poles and gear, and then fishing in the river - then biking back home with bike baskets full of fresh fish!

Meeting my date at his job at the pizzaria, and making our own pizza together.

Driving out to Drumheller to visit the dinosaur museum.

Attending dinner/theatre.

Decorating each other’s Christmas trees - I went to his house and decorated his tree while he sat there and drank hot chocolate, and then we went back to my house, and he decorated my Christmas tree while I got to sit there and drink hot chocolate.

Good for you. 😃 And you also like computers, aww.
:thankyou: Actually, I am such a “museum nerd”, I am planning a trip to Montpelier (for the annual pro-life rally at the statehouse), and while I’m there I’m trying to work in a visit to the “Hall of Fumes”…which is a museum dedicated to stinky sneakers.

Tell me that’s not some serious nerdiness!! 🤓

(Please note, I would NOT recommend taking a date to a museum like that!!) :rotfl:

Here are some of my all time favorite dates/things to do:
  1. Go to a independant theatre and see a film you can’t see in a normal movie theatre.
  2. I personally like the art museum especially if it has a whole wing of religious and medieval art and icons like the Philadelphia art museum.
3.Coffee houses are always good.
  1. Is there a Chinatown or anything like that by you?
  2. Go somewhere and people watch. Which is actually another one of my fav things to do.

Ok, I’m new to this dating thing, but some things I might do would be:
  • Go Bowling
  • Walking around stores
  • If at one of your two homes: watch a movie and chat - or show the person around your town and stuff like where you work, the park or whatever

Thank you all for your responses so far! I guess a little more background information is in order. She and I met at a Bible study. For our first date, we went to get coffee, and then went to the Bible study afterwards. I dropped her off at her place. For the second date, we went out to coffee again, and then went to an ice cream parlor next door. She’s 24, and she’s in fund-raising for a non-profit. I don’t know if she likes science museums, but I can’t take her to an art museum, because I already took another girl there a long time ago. As for the teddy bear, there’re two reasons. The first one is that a teddy bear will remind her of my name. The second one is that last time when I gave her the chocolates, she asked me if they’re from my home state, but they weren’t, so I thought it might’ve been a hint that since I was back home for the holidays, she wanted something from my state. Plus I already bought the bear. I think I can do without the roses, though. I’ll probably save that idea for next time. I will try to get her (name removed by moderator)ut on where she wants to go when I get back after the holidays, but she was the one who suggested going to the Bible study together in the first place, so it’s not like she hasn’t made any suggestions. Come to think of it, she’s been making most of the suggestions. Anyway, I hope that helps. Thanks again!
Oh, I guess the Starbucks idea of mine wasn’t that good then, since your other dates with her involved coffee. Might be okay for a little pit stop, but not a big component for a date. That is, unless if she’s a coffee person. What other suggestions has she given to you?

Is she into wine tasting? That might be an interesting try, though beware, 20% of people find almost all wines unpalatable (I happen to be one of them). That’s because they’re “Supertasters” and have more taste buds than others, so the wine tends to be really bitter. Actually, if you’re a supertaster, a wine tasting may be a good way to figure out which wines you’d like; that way, you don’t have to buy everything you drink and have it end up tasting horrible. Problem with wine tasting is that it involves spitting, which isn’t attractive. Maybe that’s a good idea for a later date.

Ice cream and coffee so far is good for the first couple dates, but maybe it’s time to kick it into second gear and do something a little less tame. Think she might be into video games? An afternoon at the mall might be good; before or after a movie, you guys could go to the arcade. (I know, sounds kiddie, but she’s the same age as me and I know I’d like to do that; I did do that for a first date once after dinner, but then again that might be more of a guy thing – I took the next person I dated to an arcade too, and I was the only one who enjoyed.) She sounds like she might be too mature for this, but a lot of people can kick loose and would have fun doing that.

Is there a Go Kart racing course there? That’s fun to do. I used to do that with friends; I could see doing that on a date. It’s safe, but apparently the engine is on the side, so be careful when you’re done. Don’t turn to the side and put your arm down – wait for the attendant to help you out of the car. I neglected to wait and the side was really, really hot. It would make a nice date memory; fifty years from now, she’ll be telling your grandkids that on your third date, you burnt your arm. Don’t worry about being good at it; I really sucked at Go Karting but it’s the fun that I remember, and my lame skills were secondary.

Or maybe a carnival with rides? (Eat dinner after; burning your arm is cute, but of regurgitation is not.)

I’ve wanted to try laser tag; maybe that’s a possibility for you there? If you do though, check out the place first to make sure it isn’t filled with kids. You could call ahead and ask what their clientelle is. Don’t substitute it for paintball though, cause that can hurt and it could take the fun right out of it.

It sounds rather kiddie to do those things, but you’re both still under 30 so it isn’t so weird. After doing stuff like this for your third and fourth dates, you could take her skiing. Do something wild for your third date, to balance with the first two calm dates. You already showed your intelligent side; now try the wilder thing. If it were vice versa, you should have your third date at the museum to show her you’re not a Rambo adrenaline sort of guy.

Concerts are popular for dates, though I don’t know if you have a lot of good bands or stuff going through Wichita. I’m in Honolulu and we don’t really get any.

Are there any good shows to watch there? It would be good for your fourth or fifth date. Like, maybe there’s a touring production of a Broadway show that’s stopping in or near there? Or maybe there’s a big, permanent production there? Like, San Francisco and Los Angeles used to have productions of the Phantom, though the San Francisco one closed. The other might have too, I don’t know. I know that Andrew Lloyd Webber shows have permanent productions in big tourist spots; I really wish I knew about Wichita so I’d know.

There probably are small community theatre productions there if that’s your thing. I personally don’t go for those since they tend to be a little lame, but I might be a little too closed-minded about that. You could also see if there are any university productions there; perhaps the University of Kansas has something, though those have the same problem as community theatre does. I went to a Chinese opera put on by UH here some years ago and it was agony.

Thank you all again for the advice! I think what I’m going to do is to suggest the museum to her, and ask her what she thinks or if she has other suggestions. I’m still a little iffy on the art museum, because part of the museum is outdoors, and it’s kinda chilly out. Also, what if she were to ask me if I had been there before? I’m also interested in knowing why some people don’t think the bear would be a good idea. Perhaps I can bring it, and only give it to her at the end of the date, if it feels right? And oh JesuXPIPassio, I’m not in Wichita - I’m in New England. Sorry if I gave that impression. The wine tasting sounds like a great idea, but I’m trying to avoid doing anything with her that involves alcohol, at least for the time being. The concert idea also sounds interesting, but I’m afraid I’ll probably have to save it for later, since I don’t know what kind of music she likes yet, and concerts are usually pretty loud, so it’s kinda hard to talk, same with the movie idea. I may consider taking her out to dinner, since I’ve gotten some good tips/recommendations on restaurants. So far, I’m still leaning towards the science museum, because it sounds casual enough.

You would just say, “Yes, I came here a few years ago with a friend.”

But why would it be “bad” to take your dates to the same places? Couldn’t you become known as the boy who takes his dates to XYZ Art Gallery? What would be wrong with that?

Science Museum all the way, an Observatory would be even better but that might be better off later in the relationship when you know more about each other and are more comfortable around each other. I would brush up on your geology, because women love a man who knows his geology.

If you can cook, I would make her dinner or linner (late lunch, early dinner) before you go the museum. The fastest way to a girl’s heart is through the stomach I have found.

Hi again! I talked with a friend of mine last night, and he seemed to think that my science museum idea isn’t a very good one. He suggested just going out to dinner together, and I’m inclined to agree with him. She’s told me that her roommate cooks French food, and she cooks things like lasagna. I’m thinking a French restaurant might be a bit too formal at this point - that and I’ve never been to one - but an Italian place sounds like a fairly safe choice, because even I can’t mess that up. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you in advance!

If you do, do the French, just say you haven’t been there before, and you don’t know if it’ll be too formal, but you want to go.

Personally, I think you should try to be a good guy, but throw in a little mischievous moment, to get her to think “oh no, you did not just do that.” Granted I don’t mean be a jerk to the wait staff, or insult her honor.

Yes, that sounds good. But what do you have planned after? You can’t just go to dinner and drop her off at home. You need to do something after. What is up to you.

And what happened to the teddy bear?
I like the idea, personally, and I think she will too. I was in a similar situation. I was trying to find a Chrsitmas gift for my girlfriend, and I was stuck between It’s a Wonderful Life (which we saw together and enjoyed) or giftcards, which were on her list. I ended up getting her the movie, even though some people I asked said not to. And she loved it!

So basically, go with your gut. If you like it, and you think she will too, it will be a perfect gift.

That’s just my two cents. :twocents:

I like most of what he says. Though, I wouldn’t necessarily say that paintball would be bad if that is the type of stuff she likes. Both the last girl I was with and the current one would love to do something like that, no pain to gain.😛

Some things that I have done that I haven’t seen mentioned yet (though I have skimmed some of it;
Dinner and a walk
A hike and picnic
Any kind of outdoor setting with a picnic
Horse back riding
Riding ATV’s on my family’s farm
A trip to the gun range
Baking together (then eating the goodies)
Paintball
Running
Rock climbing

I am drawing blanks right now, but I would also suggest that if you are really interested in her, that you try to just get to know her doing everyday stuff. If you have some project you are working on, invite her over. It doesn’t always have to be a formal date. Be spontaneous and creative.

Thank you for the replies. I started a new thread on this here, in case you’re interested. And yes, I have the teddy bear sitting on top of my suitcase right now.

The third date is really quite early in a dating relationship. It is still a beginning stage of getting to know each other.

Rather than worrying about what fancy activities to share, I suggest simple gettogethers that focus on learning about one another.

It is not as important where you go, as how you relate to each other.

Some of the best dates are scenic hikes, or a free music festival, where you can just enjoy your date’s company, and not worry about trying to make an impression.
