Invite them in and tell them all about Jesus.
I agree that this was the best advice. Perhaps all do not realize that this advice works out two different ways. You may actually evangelize them, or more than likely, you will bore them so much that they will not return. Win/Win 👍

That was the best advice in the thread; short, simple, and to the point. Everything else was either extreme or just plain rude. And you call yourselves Christians… :rotfl:
So, refusing to subject yourself to harassment makes one not a Christian? Or did I read your post wrong?

Look the guy doesn’t want them over bugging him so the "invite them in and talk about Jesus thing is not going to work besides it’s like another poster said they’d see his goods and try to break in to steal the stuff when they need drug money etc.

To the OP
Call the cops tell them what’s up ask what you need to do to have it stopped. If they ask for food say, “look I’ve been charitable to you, but I cannot provide for myself and you, you need to find somewhere else to get food”. If the guy says “hey we’re friends!” Look him squarely in the eye and say I don’t know you, you are a neighbor that has asked for food to which I’ve given you several times…coming over here and bugging me for food with intimidation isn’t “friendly” or something a friend does in fact it’s rude. Now please leave me alone before I report you to the landlord and or the police."

My husband is a big cash giver to homeless people, unfortunately sometimes they get some money and come back for more. They’ve knocked on our house door and he’s given them 10 dollars-guess what they came back asking for more money just days later. I chewed him out and told him overpass people standing on the corner (not near where we live) is fine not some person that shows up at our home. I’m a housewife at home all day with 2 gonna be three children ALONE. I don’t need mooches showing up for money for booze/drugs/whatever. He told the woman (who was with a guy) that that’s it he’s not giving her more money to not come back again. So far they haven’t that was like over a year ago. But still if you give these people an inch they’ll take a mile. They are users and are looking for a gullible person to take advantage of. Don’t be a victim.

Oh and so what if they have a dog get one of your own that is big and protective.

Happens, there’s a nudist-camp 2 miles from here.1’ve been in there many moons ago;when i was that way inclined.By the way one of the junkies was talking;he’s that way inclined too. They’ve not bothered me for a few weeks now. They’ve a cooker & I gave them some pots’n pans i was gonna throw & yesterday i saw them bringing big bag of food i presume? But i do know that one of them doesn’t eat for a few days;the drugs suppress the appetite. He only uses 1 toilet-roll per week;he’d noticed how i’d stocked up for 6 months! It’s his lodger who is the pest;and claims ADHD if you rebuke him;as if that is an excuse for asylum.(Attention Deficit Hyper-Active Disorder). It’s true what one poster said;that they’ll find someone gullible.I call it Stray Cat Syndrome;in my former home when i was married, either my wife or i would feed a stray cat,but all the strays would follow.we fed 6 strays or maybe they had owners in our area;everyday! Then when we were trying to have a sleep-in at weekends;they would come mewing at our door.I suppose it’s the animal instinct in all of us;to return to the source of the charity?

Here’s another way to look at it.

If they are indeed addicts, helping them may be prolonging their journey to their own “rock bottom”. Charity is NOT helping them see they need recovery. Charity is enabling them to continue in their drug use.

I’m a recovering alcoholic. I speak from experience. Google NA (narcotics anonymous) meetings in your area. Give that to them each and every time they ask for anything.

Call the police and tell them of the harrassment.

NOT helping them may save their lives.

Tundramom;I see. This is United Kingdom;so I presume why it’s more of a nuisance here.Less deterrents here;only the Police & Military have the Right To Bear Arms.

Their pal( who seems to mediate for them with me) appears to have a calming influence on them;they’ve not bothered me for a few weeks, til yesterday. They asked for cigarettes;but offered to carry my bags upstairs. Was good gesture;i’d had them move an oven for me before in return for cigarrettes, but they had a moan & after complying said ‘next time, can we have a payment in advance?’ I took their pal to town to run an errand for me & i gave him a meal at mine;afterwards. He says he’s not used Heroin for a month now,but is using the prescribed Methodone substitute from his doctor;instead.I’m not entirely convinced;but he seems sober. The other two, appear to continue drug-taking or substitute-taking;whatever’s available. They all seemed to agree when i said they’d been disowned by their families & i thought they could stop their habit through just having someone to talk to.We’ll see;maybe your prayers are working?

Landlords sometimes take a dim view of unregistered persons living in their properties, probably for financial liability reasons (although I am not sure exactly).
Actually it’s for fire safety - if there is a fire, the landlord is responsible for making sure everyone in the building made it to the meeting place.

If there are residents he doesn’t know about, he has no way of ensuring that everyone got out of the building alive. This is also the reason you have to let your landlord know if you are going to be away on holidays or out for the night.

Actually, your neighbours won’t steal from you;but your friends will.

Their dog was knocked down by a car the other day & they needed my help. They’d brought the dog home, after the Police had been informed. The driver had stopped to give his details;something which doesn’t seem to apply with cats.I gladly let them use the phone to contact a vet,but a vet wouldn’t visit & the emergency number for the RSPCA wasn’t answering. There were some signs of bruising & I located a vet who was willing to examine the dog for free;provided we could get to him before closing-time.By now,the dog seemed to be recovering & the owner deferred things til next morning, where i would transport them. The vet said the dog could recover at home;with rest.I know the dog well & it’s not it’s usual self;a bit quieter…a little under-par.An X-Ray wouldn’t go amiss as there may be some Closed-Fractures;so i’ll urge this with the owner.

The dog has recovered & is responding well to the Bourbon biscuits;I always give him. He’s not involved in the dispute…aah! The general situation is quiet now.

Tell them to leave you alone and that you don’t have food to offer to them. Tell them that you don’t need to interact with drug addicts. I’m sorry, but its not healthy and if you ever get close to them personally, it will effect you mentally. Stay away from it please, I’ve been close to drug addicts before, it will only hurt you mentally.

Happens, just after my previous post;they knocked for a cigarrette.I’d given their pal the brush-off,so they probably needed to know where they stood with me.I think they look up to him as a leader/support-worker,but they’re also calling me Uncle now.

Ask them to please leave you alone. Do not give them food, cigarettes, phone numbers of food banks/drug rehab centers/social services. If you wish to pray for them of course go ahead but do not inform them of this fact. Under no circumstances allow them to come into your apartment.

If they do not respect your polite request to be left alone, the next time they bother you, contact the authorities. These people are streetwise, they do not need your help or advice. They are very sophisticated at survival this way.

And by the way, if they are using drugs, they are neither “recovering” nor “recovered” addicts. They are just plain and simple addicts.

Yep what he said ^

Make sure you’re nice, yet firm when you tell them that they are to leave you alone. Completely!

They’ve all told me they’re still using & selling-on their Substitute;at profit.

Oh I just say ‘whatever’ to your neighbors. I’m sorry but being involved in drugs in one of the dumbest things you can do. Please stay away from them, it will only bring you down mentally.

You mean they are on some sort of substitute maintenance program, and selling those drugs for profit? At taxpayer expense? And they’re poor-mouthing you for food, cigarettes, etc.? So they are hitting you economically at least twice here, once as a taxpayer and once as a kindly neighbor, who they probably perceive as a real patsy.

And I strongly suspect they are using their “profits” from their drug sales to get their real substance of choice.

Fair enough reason to report them to the authorities. From what I understand, your taxes in the UK are even worse than ours in the USA.
