Nelson Mandela Day

Not surprising that such stories are put forth by modern Vatican agencies.

South African speaking here. Mandela was a GREAT man, a nobel laureate and as a president committed to UNITING the diverse races of a once segregated country.

My parish has a workshop to knit jerseys for Mandela day, to be distributed to the homeless this Winter.

Everyday should be a Mandela Day!
Greetings . I trust you had a good Nelson Mandela Day .

Pope John Paul II was more gracious towards Nelson Mandela than some Catholics on here .

Nelson Mandela was one of the Greats of the 20th Century .

Nelson Mandela should be held in the same esteem as Che Guevara and Fidel Castro. That is to say, none.

To me, many hide behind the convenient cover, claiming his being a communist, or anarchist, or subversive is the source of their discontent, when they may actually view his primary fault as his being black, but they lack the intellectual honesty to express their real feelings.

Just saying.

And when those same people adore Thomas Sowell and Clarence Thomas what is your response then?

The same…now what?

Are you saying one act of evils justifies another?

Kind of a twisted take on Christ’s comments about an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.

So we hate Nelson Mandela because he’s black.

But we don’t hate Thomas Sowell, despite him being black.

So there’s no way that we’re actually judging a persons actions and words and we’re actually just a bunch of racists? Interesting. Talk about invincible ignorance.

All the good has already been said by others. Unfortunately, his day being dedicated to peace and freedom is undermined by his advocacy of and contribution to licensing “the greatest destroyer of peace today” as a true Saint, Mother Teresa, called it.

If anything, he is a great example–and certainly there are a great many more, including Catholic ones–of how a leader’s good intentions, principles, and hierarchy of values, without a firm anchor in Christ the King and the divinely revealed truth about man and God, may achieve some good things, but can also become off-kilter to not actually serve the whole common good. In Him alone do the truths about human beings and their dignity “find their root and attain their crown.”

There have been some truly mind boggling responses on this thread which just proves humanity likes to have opinions.

As a white South African with numerous difficulties today for that very fact I could go all out and blame Mandela for whatnot but it needs to make sense and actually correspond with history and the facts. Obviously my life would have been a lot better in SA 40 years ago.

So I would like to ask all new posters and even the old posters who splashed around all the accusations to back it up with reasons or historical facts because at this stage all I can recommend is to read up on SA history a bit more as well as Mandela. Maybe even get a copy of his book “A long walk to freedom”.

The same with the ‘secular saint’, Che Guevara. Both did evil that good might come of it. Directly opposite to how God works.

Why not include some pictures of necklacing to give everyone the full picture of Mandela? On second thought don’t. I’m sure it would violate the forums rules and if not it is deeply disturbing.

I would like to refer you to my previous post on here.

Please substantiate with at least one historical evidence or fact when posting a post here. The ignorance in this thread is on another level!

Ps. Take note that necklacing is an interesting topic that would not be concluded by a mere sentence. Trust me, I know…

Hey!

You make the accusation that Mandela is directly involved in necklacing while there is no proof he was even aware of it while in prison. So go ahead and say “post pictures” of that but then you might as well ask for pictures of a person being placed in an iron maiden.

Please. This thread is becoming something close to a comedy.

Considering how we (USA) facilitated ISIS, Saddam Hussein should be remembered as a peace maker 🤔

It’s odd how some people are lauded as heroes and others are despised.

No, I didn’t make that accusation. But his wife did publicly call for necklacing. Who knows what specific acts of violence he was involved in. Necklacing happened as part of the racial violence Mandela never condemned and actively participated in.

There is in fact a lot of people who agree that turning Iraq into a democracy was a horrible idea. We should have just plugged in another dictator more pliable to our interests.

The US method of determining this is fairly easy. Whoever advances the government’s objectives at the time is a saint. Like the weather it always changes.
