And I say “so what”? What is the better use to put a clenched fist to - saluting whatever or punching babes in the stomach for the crime of asking to be free?
Media did not laud Blessed John Paul the Second; they demonized him as allowing church pedophilia to run rampant, remember?
This is precisely what I’m talking about. A violent communist is equivalent to Christ?I agree, especially as in the Daily Telegraph, the chief political commentator has a piece written, headlined as “Few human beings can be compared to Jesus Christ. Nelson Mandela was one”.

Remember what was it, two or three days of non-stop live broadcasts from St Peter’s square, followed by the daily vigil until the “habemus Papam” pronouncement? I still have fond memories of the scenes beamed all around the world…If there was any mention of any personal failings, real or imagined, I simply do not recollect. It has been my experience that most people tend not to speak ill of the recently dead, be they popes, princesses or movie stars but instead tend to highlight their achievements/strengths.Media did not laud Blessed John Paul the Second; they demonized him as allowing church pedophilia to run rampant, remember?
Christ should be the standard against whom we all compare our lives. We will all fall short, regardless, we should strive.Comparing Nelson Mandela to Jesus is incredibly stupid. However it probably sells newspapers, which is what the headline and reporters what to achieve.
I’ve said before, in an amazing act of forgiveness, on being elected President, Mandela did not unleash retribution on those who had imprisoned him. Instead he guided the country into the beginnings of a more fair way of life for all. There is a long way to go to right the wrongs of the past, or to grow beyond the pain of the past. But he set the country firmly on that path, where the present leaders are taking it is not so clear, certainly.
Red October - uh, I had to look it up, never heard anything of it (I am out of the country at the moment, but have family and friends there and go back twice a year). The Red October represents a very small minority of white folks. Not only that, they are from the cultural group that was dominant during the apartheid era. Think about that for a moment.
Nelson Mandela was not 100% good, nor 100% bad - not one of us is. He was an amazing statesman and a humble gentleman.
I love the photo of him with our beloved John Paul II. Yes, of course there are photos of him with people we do not admire. Presidents, as part of what they do have to meet a huge variety of people representing other countries and ideologies as part of their job.
Those who cast Nelson Mandela as a saint are wrong; those who cast Nelson Mandela as a devil are wrong. Read widely and wisely the history of my country - but, unless you lived it, it may still be difficult to follow and believe.
As far as I know, Mandela wasn’t a communist. Seeking help from Cuba or Libya or wherever shouldn’t be taken to imply much about one’s political and economic views if one has nowhere else to turn for assistance in waging a struggle against a vile regime.Whenever a Communist dies the media goes into a paroxysmal overdrive waxing poetic about them. Gonna be a long weekend.
The South African Communist Party (SACP) supported the African National Congress (ANC), but they were two distinct organisations. There were those who thought the ANC was a communist organisation, or a socialist one - perhaps because communist countries provided assistance to the ANC in The Struggle. As far as I know, Mandela wasn’t a communist. Yes, it is true. Further proof that he was simply a fallible human being doing his imperfect best. And, as has been said before, all the more reason to pray for him now. The above does not take away from this: Archbishop Brislin: Mandela saved nation from civil warI just found out the following
Unfortunately, Nelson Mandela Signed Law Legalizing Unlimited Abortions
I wasn’t 100% sure if I should bring this up on this thread, considering he has just died. May God rest his soul but we need to know what Nelson Mandela did in his life, and unfortunately the above article is true.
(Vatican Radio) South Africa Archbishop Stephen Brislin says Nelson Mandela’s remarkable qualities as a leader and as a man helped pull the country back from the brink of civil war. The President of the Southern African Catholic Bishops’ conference, Archbishop Brislin paid tribute and expressed his gratitude for the achievements of the nation’s former President who helped negotiate a transfer to multi-party democracy.
