I think of “New Age” as basically just another word for “miscellaneous.” It’s not one movement, but a whole bunch of different and completely unrelated movements, that people in marketing like to lump into one giant category. And yes, this even includes some Christian denominations.
Generally, people don’t refer to themselves as “New Age.” It’s usually somebody else putting them in that category. One guy is talking about having visions of angels. Another guy is talking about being abducted by aliens. Another guy is promoting a new kind of health food. Another one is selling paintings of fairies. Another guy is pitching some pseudo-science about curing depression with magnets. Another one is talking about living in Atlantis in a past life. Yes another is showing off his blurry photographs of Bigfoot. They all look at each other and say the same thing. “All these people are crazy, except for me!”
Of course, these so-called New Agers do work well with each other, because it’s good for business. They all profit from the same customer base – people without a lot of critical judgement, but lots of cash.
