Archbishop Daniel N. DiNardo became the new leader of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston today.

DiNardo, 56, moved into the top spot after Archbishop Joseph A. Fiorenza received word from the Vatican that Pope Benedict XVI had granted his request to retire.

"I have been here in Galveston-Houston almost two years and have learned much,’’ said DiNardo, who previously served as bishop of the Diocese of Sioux City, Iowa. "There is now much more to learn. From the time I arrived here, I have been received with great warmth and openness and I am very grateful for that. I especially want to thank Archbishop Fiorenza, to whom we all owe a great debt of gratitude.

"I now look forward to being shepherd of such a a dynamic local church.’’

I personal am very happy with the choice plus i liked the way they did it. They brought in Bishop DiNardo over a year ago so he could learn and beceom use to the and in return we could become use to him…Not easy to suddenly lead a flock of 1.3 million.PRAISE GOD for a new leader!!!
