If I’m not mistaken, Baker was a priest in St. Augustine before being moved to Charleston and made bishop.

Yes. He was a Priest in Jacksonville, in my Diocese of St. Augustine. Then he became a Bishop & went to Charleston. He was and still is very well liked around here. Who will be Bishop of Charleston?

Your Archbishop, Oscar Lipscomb, was truly a wonderful man. He interviewed me just 3 years ago, and determined that I have a calling to the Priesthood. Now, it’s just a matter of time, since my own Bishop has a weird rule that requires anyone who has had an annulment to wait 3 YEARS before being eligible for Seminary. (That might be good for men in their 20s or 30s, but NOT in their mid-late 50s!)

Archbishop Lipscomb is also a wonderful speaker, as I learned at the 2004 Supreme Convention of the Knights of Columbus, held in Dallas, TX. He was able to make his points, without taking all day to do so. He is truly an admirable Bishop.

He is a brilliant historian and an often delightful speaker; we have had considerable contact with him for 20+ years. Sadly, we have been most disappointed by his attitude towards victims of clergy abuse; hire the lawyers, obfuscate and circle the wagons.

He was an auxilary in philly…so at least it didn’t leave an actual diocese bishop-less. Although last I checked Philly didn’t get a new Auxillary yet.

That was Bishop Burbridge…we really liked him…he was fantastic at my daughters confirmation! He was very kind to all my children afterward.
