There’s been so much discussion on the news already on the contents of the book I don’t really need to buy it.
True. Besides, I would not want to put a single penny in that man’s pocket.

Did this man really not understand why the missile detection system for monitoring N. Korea was placed in South Korea instead of in Utah?

In another discussion with the president Cohn unveiled a commerce department study showing the US absolutely needed to trade with China. If you’re the Chinese and you want to really just destroy us just stop sending us antibiotics. You know we don’t really produce antibiotics in the United States. The study also showed that 9 major antibiotics were not produced in the United States. including Penicillin. China sold 96.6% of antibiotics used here. We don’t produce Penicillin. Trump looked at Cohn strangely. “Sir, so when mother’s babies are dying of strep throat what are you going to say to them?” Cohn asked Trump if he was going to tell them “trade deficits matter?”

“We’ll buy it from another company” Trump proposed. “So now the chinese are going to sell it [antibiotics] to the Germans and the Germans are going to mark it up and sell it to us. So now our trade defficiet will go down with the Chinese and up with Germany. USA consumers will be paying the markup. Is that good for our economy”

Navarro said they would buy it from somewhere else. “Same problem. You are just rearranging chairs on the Titanic.”

It’s in the first part of the book. You’ll find the full details there.

Perhaps, then, Trump will start doing something about the lack of production in the U.S. It is true, though, that most drugs are manufactured in the third world, even if they have American brand names.

After having gotten through most of the book I’m sitting and wondering where Adderall is manufactured. I understand it is the most favoured Amphetamine of the USA.

The POTUS cannot force a company to produce a product that they do not want produce. ABX production does not make enough money to satisfy the stockholders of pharma companies.

What could he do, threaten them? When that Zpac costs $300 because Pharma, Inc was forced by law to produce it, is it really going to do anyone any good?

If you want to be afraid, look at how long it has been since any US company has researched new antibiotics.

What he could do is refuse to allow any drugs to be sold in this country that were not manufactured under the watchful eyes of the FDA at every point in the process.

And frankly, I think that’s exactly what this country should do. Maybe if our companies are getting paid for the drugs, they would do more research.

Finished the book. This comes as no surprise, but it sounds like there are a lot of people that work with the president that don’t think highly of him in general and more specifically of his attention span, comprehension, or honesty.

These points were also brought up in “Fire & Fury”.

I have fresh yarn arriving this afternoon when I get home from work for a “listen and crochet” session.

So the book pretty much tells us that Trump is the caricature the media has been attempting to create for the past 2-3 years. It confirms all their (and your?) biases and prejudices. I think that is the least surprising thing about the book.

Don’t take it as a description of the entirety of the book. But it’s a trending perspective among the people he works with that are mentioned in the book. Whether or not that agression with my personal assessment of him is another matter. But I encourage taking a look at the book to make an assessment informed from the actual book and not just what people in CAF say.

Good luck with that. Some of the ingredients used in common and life saving drugs are manufactured exclusively in India and China. Starting about 40 years ago China made big investments in in penicillin fermenters and were able to drive down the cost of their production far below what it cost in the USA to produce. Forcing production in the USA would still result in higher prices that get passed to consumers. It takes about 2 years to build a penicillin fermenter (based on an assessment from 2009). If the goal is USA production then investments that would bring down the price of the ingredients needed for drugs would help.

You do know that the people quoted by name in the book have largely denied the quotes attributed to them, right? Woodward has a history of making up fake interviews and fake sources, should that be considered as well when judging the entirety of the book?
