You really don’t think that’s true, do you? Roe v Wade has been confirmed by other later cases. If the basis for electing Trump was overturning Roe v Wade, then that’s got to be one of the most misguided reasons for voting for a president I can think of.

“Roe vs. Wade is an important precedent of the Supreme Court.” - Kavanaugh’s own words.
As I said, with Repub appointees I think there’s a chance. With Dems there is none. One might take as instructive the outcome in Carhart vs. Gonzales. The issue was whether it is a “constitutional right” to have or carry out a partial birth abortion. EVery Repub appointee voted to allow states to ban it. EVery Dem appointee voted to make it a “constitutional right”.

The Repub appointees of 1972 were not the appointees of today.

And yes, it’s an “important precedent”. All Supreme Court decisions are, until they’re not. Dred Scott and Plessy vs. Ferguson were both “important precedents” until they were overruled later.

What irks me so much is that as long as Trump is hurting “others”, that doesn’t bother so many in his base because it’s “others
Who has he actually “hurt” other than the peacocks at CNN, NYT and other self-important news outlets.

Exactly.

I think we both know roe v Wade is not going away, and if that’s your most significant reason for voting for any candidate then you’ve badly misjudged.

You don’t know that any more than you know what’ s in the center of a black hole. But it isn’t entirely, exactly that. Completely aside from my hope that it will be overturned, I also have contempt for a party that supports it, and will not vote for any of them.

Overturning supreme Court rulings, particularly ones confirmed by other rulings, is pretty unlikely, and if that’s what is driving you, then I’d advise you to be prepare for a lifetime of disappointment.

Well, there are plenty of “lifetime disappointments” in this life. I can only do so much. But what I can do, I will do.

Since, undoubtedly, you have never sinned, it does not trouble you to case the first stone or any other, or to judge the soul of another. But that is God’s prerogative, not yours …
Apart from the “gratuitous insult”, there is merit to this post. I’ll file it for future use when, for example, some like to cast the stone of “haters” against other posters.

Consensus, no.

Not as long as he can say the things he has said and people still follow him.

Got it. Not until people agree with you. Right. Why didn’t I think of that during the Obama years?

It is not about agreeing with me at all. It is about decency., truth and respect. You can’t see those shortcomings?

i think that Pope’s are in position to question the faith of the faithful and have done it throughout history.
But you side with Trump.
I side with the truth. If Pope Francis misjudged Trump, he did, and not even popes have license to misjudge if, indeed, that’s what happened.

I remember two back-to-back homilies by our current priest back in 2016 that addressed this issue. In the first one, he addressed the issue of abortion and the Church’s teaching on it, and in the second one he said that it is not Catholic teaching to vote only single-issue as there are other things that must be considered. Obviously, he did not endorse any particular candidate, nor could I tell how he intended to vote, which is the way it should be, imo.

I side with the truth.
That is fair. But it is a complete retreat from the position you defended earlier, in post #149, that the Pope had no right to question another man’s religion or faith. I take this retreat as agreeing with my response to your earlier post

Believe it or not, I agree with you. Popes have been known to be wrong (just look at the history of our Popes – sometimes shocking).

That said, yes, the Pope is in a pretty good position to question someone’s faith. Sure, it’s possible that a Pope can arrive at the wrong conclusion.

Of course I see shortcomings. I saw them in Obama. I saw them in Bush. I saw them in spades in Clinton. I don’t support their flaws or shortcomings and since they all have them, I do a pretty dark analysis of the policies they promote and the results as I see them. I abhorred the thing Obama promoted, and the results of his efforts. I love many of the things Trump promotes and the results thus far have been hard to argue with, especially for someone who voted for him.

Do I believe everything he or Obama or Bush said? No. But I believe Trump has my interests at heart much more than Obama.

I get you dont like Trump’s qualities, but it is hard to analyze without knowing whether or not you’d support the policies he promotes if it was someone else promoting them.
