Father Frank Pavone, the founder of Priests for Life (PFL), once again faces possible disciplinary action because of his refusal to allow episcopal oversight of his organization’s …

This has been a troubling story. Father Pavone has had disciplinary issues with several different bishops.

I really suspect the “facts” of this remain hidden. Praying for Fr. Pavone!

Wow. A priest disobeying his superiors. That ain’t good…

Not good at all because at every Priest ordination that I have been to the Bishop will ask those to be ordained Do you promise to be obedient to me and my successors. Something to think about.

This sounds like big time trouble for Fr. Pavone; I hope it is just miscommunication and he will do everything that is asked of him to clear it up. There have been recent victories in the abortion fight with more to come, and we need Priests For Life to be strong and in union with the Church.

His lack of co-operation and apparent disobedience harms the mission of the organization

No information given. Hard to say if this is rebellion against genuine authority and oversight of bishops or the sort of righteous refusal to water down, compromise and generally banal-ize that Mother Angelica waged against certain bishops in the 90’s who tried to squash her and impose control over EWTN.

Whatever the case it’s beyond me to decide. Hope the Apostolic Visitation staff decides wisely what to do.

He needs to cooperate because the last thing we need is a discrediting of the pro-life movement (and this is what it would mean to the media).

Cardinal Timothy Dolan cuts ties with anti-abortion crusader Frank Pavone
Good article ton contemplate on, in case we put the real headline in the title.

I have kept up with this situation some. Cardinal Dolan may well be doing the correct thing, unfortunate to see this.

In the past, I kind of chalked this up to possibly being a misunderstanding. Now though, the two-sides seem to remain at odds so much yet, at the same time, I’ve always sympathized with Father Pavone because he sounds so sincere and earnest. Not only sounds but his acts I think have reflected this as well.

On the other hand, if something is amiss, why has their not been some sort of action by the law? I’ve heard about this financial problem before.

This story goes back several years. Father Pavone has been in open conflict with several different bishops, to whom he owed a vow of obedience. We should all pray for him and for Priests for Life. Those in contact with Father Pavone should urge his obedience to the Church.

Most often when an organization and its leadership refuse transparency that is an indication there is impropriety on some level.
Cardinal Dolan is wise not to become apart of this group as they are unwilling to open up to him or others.

I just got a big 9X11 envelope from Priests For Life in the mail last week, requesting donations, with a picture of Fr. Pavone on the front. He must know that reports of his uncooperative actions are not helping his organization or the pro-life cause. It is troubling.

The statement said the Vatican and Pavone agree that “it does not serve the needs of the Church or the cause of life to argue a matter in public that is still being worked out in private,” and said it would not be “appropriate” to comment further.
I think we should respect this and reserve judgement unless there is some change in the groups official status ( for lack of a better term).

are these the people on catholic radio saturday evenings? i was this close to sending my first donation, when i saw that controversial nun on the board.

I cringe when I hear Fr. Pavone on the radio, because he is so much a one-topic person. That aside, he should take some outside advice on running his organization. It’s MORE suspect to do what he’s doing, like when we didn’t know the extent of what Fr. Corapi was doing, several years ago.

yes, salaries is a very interesting subject.

Without the right to life, there are no other rights.
