**Institute established at New Brighton shrine church to open second UK foundation in Preston this year **
The young religious order that was installed in a shrine church in the Wirral is to establish a second community in England.
The Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest will establish a foundation at St Walburge’s Church, Preston, in the autumn – some two-and-a-half years after founding its first UK community at Ss Peter and Paul and St Philomena, New Brighton.
The Rt Rev. Michael Campbell, Bishop of Lancaster, announced on Sunday that the landmark city centre church – which has the highest spire in the country bar Salisbury Cathedral – will become a shrine church dedicated to Eucharistic Adoration, and providing Holy Mass and other Sacraments in the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite.
In March 2012 the Institute established their first English foundation at the New Brighton at the invitation of the Rt Rev. Mark Davies, the Bishop of Shrewsbury. The church was then also dedicated a shrine with the purpose of promoting Eucharistic Adoration and providing a centre for worship in the Extraordinary Form.
Bishop Campbell said that the agreement between Mgr Gilles Wach, General Prior of the Institute, and parish priest Fr Simon Hawksworth, meant that the church will now be open every day with Eucharistic Adoration.
