A New Jersey priest was jailed after he was accused of pointing a gun at an 8-year-old before services at his church.

Father Kevin Carter allegedly took an 8-year-old to a rectory room at the St. Margaret of Cortona Roman Catholic Church in Little Ferry, New Jersey, and told the child to stand against the wall, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office said.

Carter then “retrieved a long gun from nearby and pointed it at the child with an indication that he would shoot him,” the prosecutor’s office said in a press release.

How horrifying. I hope the little boy will be ok mentally…

Mary.

I want more information on this.
It would not be the first time I have seen such a story simply made up out of nothing.
Nor would it be the first time a priest did something stupid.

 Nothing much surprises me anymore. But if this is true, wow. Just wow. I join Mary in hoping this little boy is alright and if this happened to him, makes it thru such a terrible experience. Let us pray for this child.

I read the article several times and there seems to be something missing. I wonder if the boy wanted to see the gun and was perhaps told to stand away or by the wall as a safety precaution. And the several witnesses “alleged” didn’t take any preventive measures or say something. It sounds more like a “show and tell” affair of an antique Civil War Rifle, but it got him into hot water. It sounds like what my brothers would do; “Hey, look what I have acquired.” I would really need to know more before passing any kind of judgment.

UPDATE: Flock backs priest accused of pointing gun at Cowboys fan in Giants country

Apparently according to several witness this was all a joke about football and no one took it seriously. One witness in the room says he never pointed the rifle at the boy at all but was only holding it at the time due to showing it to several history enthusiasts. Several people have criticized the police for arresting a prominent member of the community so quickly based on the statements of one individual.
