The Recognito was issued April 29, 2010. So its approved boys and girls.
From Media Release at usccb.org/comm/archives/2010/10-085.shtml dated 30 April 2010:

"WASHINGTON—The Vatican has given its “recognitio,” or statement of acceptance, of the proposed U.S. version of the new edition of the Roman Missal. The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) now must decide when to authorize its use in dioceses and parishes in the United States.

In a letter from Cardinal Antonio Cañizares Llovera, Prefect of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments, dated March 25, 2010, (Protocol Number 269/10L) the text of the English translation of the Roman Missal, third edition, has been approved with the required recognitio.

In addition,a series of adaptations and proper texts for the Dioceses of the United States also has been approved. Cardinal Francis George, OMI of Chicago, USCCB President, was in Rome to attend meetings of the Vox Clara Committee, of which he is a member, and received the decrees personally. ** The complete text of the Roman Missal is still undergoing final editing by Vatican officials.** It is expected to be forwarded to Conferences of Bishops later this spring, at which time it will be prepared for publication. …"

(My bold text.)

Right. Hardly “some two years ago” so there’s a lot of pastoral work to do in order to prepare for implementation.
Remember, this translation was done in sections. The Ordinary of the Mass was approved and released about two years ago. It was the Missal in its entirety that received recognitio recently.

Halleluyah!! Halleluyah!!
Now, Please open you Bibles to - The Letter of St. paul the Apostle to the Philippians chapter 4 –
Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:4-7 - NIV
Finally, brothers and sisters, keep your thoughts on whatever is right or deserves praise: things that are true, honorable, fair, pure, acceptable, or commendable. Practice what you’ve learned and received from me, what you heard and saw me do. Then the God who gives this peace will be with you.
Philippians 4:8-9 - GOD’S WORD Translation

Yes, I’m quite happy to see that the Recognito has been issued - This new Translation is a considerable improvement over the 1970 Translation.

Your Brother in Christ, Michael

That’s why you see the music on my previous post - the Approval is for the “Whole Thing”, which means what Catholics in America have to wait for is the implementation. According to the USCCB Website & some parish bulletins, they were supposed to have started classes towards the end of last year. I haven’t seen any of them - At least not in this Archdiocese, just the PDF & the, “We’ll have classes,” but no classes…

I can’t say any more - Just please pray for the Catholics of Los Angeles and for the new Archbishop.

Your Brother in Christ, Michael

Well, yes, but that’s kind of a moot point because until Rome approves it via a Recognitio we really don’t know what the actual texts are.

Even the USCCB web site notes that the final texts are pending to this spring: usccb.org/romanmissal/index.shtml

This is one of the pastoral challenges, I think, to this change, in that the actual final text is only known a little more than a year before it’s supposed to be implemented. Still, that’s likely better than the way the post-Vatican II changes were handled.
Actually, what was released two years ago had already been given recognitio. In fact, a letter written by Prefect Emeritus Francis Cardinal Arinze stated that these had already garnered recognitio and they were released precisely to give the faithful and composers time to learn the texts. What had not yet been given recognitio were the parts reserved to the priest.

The faithful have to follow Rome,
The faithful have to follow Rome…well, anyone reading the news in the past 10 years knows how that statement can lead to terrible injustice and scandal. So, some qualification needs to be appended to that flat statement.

No, it does not. Rome is the prevailing and final authority here. The CDWDS acts with the authority of and in the name of the Holy Father. Bishops are just as much bound to obey the Holy See as the faithful are bound to obey the bishop in matters of faith and morals. When a bishop is ordained, he takes a vow of obedience to the Holy Father and the Supreme Pontiff’s successors. This vow also includes the Holy See.

We were told here in the Diocese of Orlando that implementation would begin in Advent 2010 and be in full use by Lent 2011

I would love to move over there. But, that would mean that I would have to be a Magic fan and I could not give up my Spurs. 😃

Seems like a lot of stalling going on.
The only thing I have heard locally is unofficial whining and complaining, mainly from liberal clergy, church employees and music folks.
The average Catholic around here hasn’t heard about any changes and when the subject is brought up, could not care less.

Thanks. Good points. You’re obviously more familiar with the details than I am.

I think my point was that until the whole thing is a “done deal” I tend to think (and I may be wrong of course) that musicians, publishers, etc., would be somewhat tentative about preparing new settings.

Thanks again for the insights.

I was referring to the sexual abuse scandal. Clearly, some in Rome were wrong, as were those (ordained and lay) who followed them blindly.

That’s why the Ordinary was officially released early and composers have been working on settings since. I know that the CCCB commissioned new ones, three of which are now complete and being workshopped in our diocese. Richard Rice’s setting is also available for the asking.

I just got mine a few days ago, thanks to you! 👍

I am SOOO excited about the new Missal! After I’ve fallen in love with the Latin Mass, it is harder and harder to take our current translation seriously. Reading through the sample texts, it actually FEELS like I’m following along the Latin Mass in the English side of my book 🙂 I’m just bouncing off the walls… finally rather than have to mouth “et cum spirituo tuo,” I can actually say it, “and with your spirit!!” Needless to say I’m going to be just as excited about the Novus Ordo as I am with the TLM - that’s saying a lot for me!

We are going to see who’s a faithful Catholic and who’s a dissenter in the next year or so as Advent draws closer. I can picture a lot of issues with this, just like in the article. Now we’ll know for sure who is playing Catholic in order to promote their counter Vatican II agenda under the auspices of Vatican II. (and I’d venture to say that there will be more than just this one crazy bishop, but many of them.)

I am looking forward to this! The new changes look wonderful and add reverence where it has been lacking.

What if your Bishop was not in favor of the changes? For example, BIshop Trautmann of Erie PA has been quite vocal in his objections. Would you still follow it? Or would you follow your bishop?
At this point, the whole thing is moot since the Holy See has granted the new translation the necessary recognitio. What is now needed is obedience from all parties involved. We need to embrace this beautiful work and move on full speed ahead.
