I am in favor of Catholic schools providing an orthodox Catholic education and that starts with the teachers actually following the teachings of the Church. There should be no exceptions because too much is at stake now. Catholics have been very poorly catechized for the past 50 years and now we see the awful fruits of that in our culture.
When my daughter was in 8th grade at a Catholic school her teacher and the class were having a discussion about abortion with the teacher telling the class that it was “compassionate”. My daughter respectfully disagreed and the teacher scolded her and tried to shame her for not being “compassionate”. When I found out about this I wrote a strongly written letter to the teacher and an apology came quite quickly as she feared losing her job. My opinion is how dare you come to a Catholic school and have the nerve to corrupt the teachings of the Church to impressionable kids. We must stop this cooperation with evil in the schools and if some disobedient poorly catechized teachers lose their jobs then so be it. We are the Church Militant and it is time to push back!

I concur. In middle school we got a 5th grade teacher who wasn’t Catholic. We went to her class for science while my teacher taught the 5th grade’s religion class.

I disagree because even if she is watching child porn or smoking crack only at home, she is still coming to school with a mindset bent on having sex with or being stimulated by children and perhaps physically and emotionally high as well, or at least with a somewhat different brain chemistry. In the case of having sex at home, that behavior can stay at home unless, as I said, she is teaching her students about the joy of homosexuality, advocating for it, or talking to them about her personal sex life.

ALL sin affects us in some way. To say homosexual sin doesn’t is ludicrous.

I read that study when it first came out. Their conclusions in that area don’t even remotely match their data. I perform and teach research for a living, and I have rarely seen a more politically correct interpretation of a study’s results in my life.

That’s a nice idea, but I’m not aware of any Catholic schools that require their teachers to be Catholic.

I should have specified in my statement that it was once believed that mostly all homosexuals molest children. Of course some do, but the vast majority do not. In fact, more heterosexuals molest children, taking into account the greater number of heterosexual men. The distinction, if any, between homosexual behavior and pedophilia has been discussed on a couple of other threads. I have no desire to debate the issue here since it is off-topic.

The Jay report relied on the false assumption that same-gender sexual abuse is a homosexual “component.” As the vast majority of experts are well aware; the gender of the victim is not necessarily an indicator of gender preference on the part of the perpetrator. BTW - the figure you provided is not supported by the data in the John Jay Report. Only 27% involved post-pubescent children and 74% within that group were male. A far cry from 88% of the total.
