one more thing I forgot to mention Catholics have a legal obligation to pay taxes, you are breaking the law if you pay taxes. The Church says you should pay taxes, if you are concerned about where your tax money goes contact your reps and let them know and try and change it.

Taxation is different then boycotting private companies.
But you can always ask your congressman or Senator to cut or eliminate the charitable contribution deduction. Just saying.

In addition, since money is infinitely fungible, you don’t actually KNOW whether your money is going toward an immoral program or not.

I think if **all **the spending of a particular government was immoral, there might be a different attitude toward taxation.

From WWL:James Eggleston prays daily near the site of a proposed Planned Parenthood on South Claiborne Avenue near Napoleon. He is among those opposed to the clinic because it would offer abortions. What could be one of the most influential protests so far is a letter from Archbishop Gregory Aymond that has been distributed in every Catholic church in the metro area through the Archdiocese newspaper, the Clarion-Herald.
In it, Archbishop Gregory Aymond says "Abortion is a grave evil… The Archdiocese is obliged to remind every person and organization involved in the acquisition, preparation and construction of this or any abortion facility that they are cooperating with the evil that will take place there.”
Aymond said the Archdiocese will boycott any person or business who plays a role in helping the Planned Parenthood facility to become a reality.
(remainder snipped)
Archbishop Aymond’s piece in the Clarion-Herald:

Planned Parenthood abortion clinic: We cannot cooperate with evil
… In March 2013, the Roman Catholic Church of the Archdiocese of New Orleans participated in an awareness campaign regarding Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest abortion provider. Planned Parenthood is set to construct a 7,000- to 8,000-square-foot facility at 4636 South Claiborne Avenue near Napoleon Avenue in New Orleans. Although Planned Parenthood does not currently perform abortions in Louisiana, they have publicly stated that they will be performing abortions at this new facility and that it will be the largest of its kind in Louisiana. They intend to open in 2014.
(snip)
We cannot be silent in view of the grave injustice presented by the abortions that will be performed at the proposed Planned Parenthood facility. **The archdiocese is obliged to remind every person and organization involved in the acquisition, preparation and construction of this or any abortion facility that they are cooperating with the evil that will take place there. **

For this reason, the archdiocese, including its churches, schools, apartments for the elderly and nursing homes, will strive in its privately funded work not to enter into business relationships with any person or organization that participates in actions that are essential to making this abortion facility a reality.
This policy applies to all businesses, regardless of religious affiliation or non-affiliation. Our fidelity to Church teaching and our conscience necessitates this stance.
There is no justification, including economic hardship that will make a direct or indirect relationship with Planned Parenthood, or any abortion provider, acceptable. Additionally, affiliation or support of Planned Parenthood by Catholics is a matter of serious scandal.
Bravo to Archbishop Aymond!

Bravo!

There is nothing Satan fears more than a Bishop willing to act with the authority and charism of his office.

why should someone’s soul be less important than someone’s job?

if you know that you are building a planned parenthood as a Catholic you are cooperating with evil. That put’s your soul at risk and if you lose your job for the sake of your soul than I have a very high respect for you.
You are so right. Why is it when a sin comes up that some may find hard to fight the first thing we do is look for an excuse as to why they don’t have to follow the Ten Commandments. For some it’s just too hard. This reminds me of JFK,s response to abort," I’m personally opposed to it but I can’t force my views on others". Agreeing with an intrinsic Evil. We cannot be sometimes a Catholic.

I’m surprised PP came right out and admitted what the structure was. Their MO here in Aurora, IL was to have a generic development company to design and construct a generic ‘medical center’ and after permits and contracts were issued and construction nearly complete only THEN did they disclose that PP was the owner and planned for it to be an abortuary.

But then, lies come rather easily to killers, don’t they?

 JFK. That is the entire purpose of a government: to discriminate (morally) and to force certain standards of (moral) human action on people, in one way or another.

I like to take my moral direction from God. Politics by it’s very nature is evil.

The announcement by the archbishop has gotten attention of local residents:

*New Orleans CityBusiness editor Greg LaRose of Aymond’s message, “This I think is fairly unprecedented.”

LaRose says the Archdiocese of New Orleans is itself constantly growing and spending millions of dollars on construction projects. “It does, I think, catch the attention of contractors knowing that they are one of for the lack of a better term, big spenders, in the market.”

LaRose believes the threat of being blacklisted could scare some companies away from the Planned Parenthood project.

Pro-choice advocates say they’re troubled, but not surprised to hear of the archbishop’s comments. “I can certainly understand concerns that businesses have but I do hope that they keep the needs and the best interests of women in our community in the forefront of their mind,” said Jessie Nieblas, with the New Orleans Abortion Fund.*

We certainly hope so! (Imagine that! A bishop exercises his authority, and people take notice and change their behavior.)

You sure about that being JFK’s? I’m pretty sure that started with Mario Cuomo in New York. Ted Kennedy later adopted it, but IIRC JFK was not an abortion booster. He died before Roe, after all. The Democratic party didn’t make abortion a sacred principle to their identity until well after Roe.

That’s what I was thinking too. And as it turned out, JFK’s one appointment to the Fed was only one of two votes AGAINST Roe vs Wade, some 10 years later.

JFK set the stage for Cuomo. His speech crafted this fake notion that there was some sort of separation of our Catholic faith from other areas of our lives. The concept is utter tripe. It perfectly encompasses the mindset of a person willing to forgo their Catholic faith for political power, which sadly many Catholics took, and still do.

But because I am a Catholic, and no Catholic has ever been elected President, the real issues in this campaign have been obscured–perhaps deliberately, in some quarters less responsible than this. So it is apparently necessary for me to state once again–not what kind of church I believe in,** for that should be important only to me**–but what kind of America I believe in.

I believe in an America where the separation of church and state is absolute–where no Catholic prelate would tell the President (should he be Catholic) how to act, and no Protestant minister would tell his parishioners for whom to vote–where no church or church school is granted any public funds or political preference–and where no man is denied public office merely because his religion differs from the President who might appoint him or the people who might elect him.

That is the kind of America in which I believe. And it represents the kind of Presidency in which I believe–a great office that must neither be humbled by making it the instrument of any one religious group nor tarnished by arbitrarily withholding its occupancy from the members of any one religious group**. I believe in a President whose religious views are his own private affair, **neither imposed by him upon the nation or imposed by the nation upon him as a condition to holding that office.

JFK set the stage for Cuomo. [/INDENT]
On general principle, yes he did. But his cowardice in not making the case that being genuinely catholic and loyally American poses no contradiction as long as America remains GOOD is not the specific moral cowardice he was accused of above.

IIRC, the Kennedys were all at least nominally against legal abortion at the time of JFK’s death. Even Teddy didn’t jump ship until the political tide swung in that direction, which happened AFTER Roe.

A short comment about the whole church and state bit. This is a silly argument. Laws are based on societies (our) Moral( Laws given to us by God) in which to live by. You CANNOT separate church and state. The idea of separation of church and state did not come out of the constitution and might I remind you this country was colonized by protestant soon after the Reformation Movement. This is the root of where this idea comes from. Again, NOT a constitutionally based idea. I further argue, it is not rational.

The political tide seemed to have swung somewhere late in Carter’s term as Teddy decided to challenge Carter on his policies. For those who can’t remember, Carter had been a darling of the evangelicals. Also during his term deregulated airline and trucking industries to the disapproval of union leaders.

I need to make a correct to my statement about JFK. His sister Eunice wrote a letter to the NYT in which she was very up set with an abortion group coopting his statement above as support for unlimited abortion. Eunice stated, that comment was given in response to the view in the country that Catholic Teachings would decide public policy, not support in any form for abortion. Sorry Mr. President, and sorry Eunice, I should not have lumped him with Teddy, the Shrivers, and Caroline. I’m guilty of typing and relying on bad memory instead of doing my research.

I would like to apologize to JFK and his sister Eunice for my previous post on JFK. Eunice wrote to the editor of the NYT that a Pro abortion group had taken the quote out of context, it did not refer to JFK’s position on abortion but was in reference to the general criticism being made by some that the teachings of the Catholic Church would become the law of the land. Some non Catholic’s feared that JFK would would make them all go to confession. JFK was in great opposition to abortion, unlike Teddy, the Shrivers, Cromo, and even his daughter Caroline…

I’ve never seen any of this group refute the above statement but Eunice, she was very anti killing of babies. Sorry for my bad memory and lack of research. I guess when dealing with the left everything must be researched, they lie in the drop of a hat if it advances their position. It is very sad and shows the great Evil people will go to advance an evil position even to the point of not honoring their father, brother or cousins beliefs.

How Support for Abortion Became Kennedy Dogma
In some cases, church leaders actually started providing “cover” for Catholic pro-choice politicians who wanted to vote in favor of abortion rights. At a meeting at the Kennedy compound in Hyannisport, Mass., on a hot summer day in 1964, the Kennedy family and its advisers and allies were coached by leading theologians and Catholic college professors on how to accept and promote abortion with a “clear conscience.”
So yes, it was after JFK’s death, but not long after. And it was nothing like a gradual slide or a slow fade into support for murder of the innocents, but an abrupt shift on the prompting of prominent Catholic priests and professors.
