New Poll: Do you think Homosexual Acts are Sinful?

That’s quite unfair. Shall we bring up the pediphile problem to combat your silly comment? At least the protestant denominations that openly accept homosexuals are consistent.

The Bible teaches clearly that homosexuality is wrong, a sinful destortion of God’s plan for sex.
It’s also an idiotic response. A simple poll and sure enough leave it to a Roman Catholic to find some way to state they are the true church and nobody else is. 2.4 billion Christians in the world, 900 million Roman Catholics and this narrow minded individual puts stock into 100 responses as fortifying their opinion.

No disrespect but homosexual acts are a sin period end of story. Paul explains this in Romans and still to this day we don’t get it:shrug:
The Church teaches in the Catechism of the Catholic Church: “Basing itself on Sacred Scripture, which presents homosexual acts as acts of grave depravity, tradition has always declared that homosexual acts are intrinsically disordered.”(CCC 2357).

It is true that men have sinned and put their immortal souls in grave danger. But that has no bearing on what the Church teaches. She has taught the same traditions for 2000 years and has left a bible to help all Christians come closer to the Truth that Jesus entrusted to His Church.

This is not talking about homosexuals who are celibate for God, but it is speaking about committed homosexuals who are only procreating with 1 partner in a committed relationship.
Ah, not to nitpick, but homosexuals can’t “procreate”.

And it doesn’t matter how “committed” their little relationship is, they’re still engaging in behaviour which is really disordered and an affront to God. Anyone who says that’s not in the bible needs to learn to read.

I am aware and many before you have brought up that point in this thread 🙂

Thanks though!!

THIS POLL IS ANONYMOUS, PLEASE READ EACH OPTION TO ENSURE YOU ARE PICKING THE CORRECT OPTION.

With all of the changes happening recently in the Episcopal and ELCA Lutheran churches regarding Homosexuality, I thought I would start a poll to determine the current state of the forum.

The ELCA and Episcopal churches are saying that a committed homosexual relationship where homosexuals of the same sex are committing fornication outside of Marriage or Holy Matrimony is not a sin according to the Bible or by God.
Of course, those who hold this view wouldn’t call it fornication. . . .

I voted that I do think such behavior is sinful, but I should clarify: I am speaking materially and not formally (in other words, with the Catholic Church I recognize that subjective guilt is not the same as objective sinfulness) and I am not sure that (to use Catholic terminology) I would regard such a relationship as mortally sinful even if engaged in with full knowledge and consent. In other words, I do not favor denying gay couples communion, although I do think that the Church should avoid taking any action that implies that same-sex relationships are fully legitimate and/or equivalent to marriage.

What I am certain of is that there is no such thing as same-sex marriage, theologically speaking, and that sexual behavior can only take place according to God’s intention within marriage.

Not to nitpick either but women should keep quiet in churches then too. And the universe from start to finish with man and woman created, was completed in 144 hrs with an evening and a morning being a day. I know tons of Catholics who don’t take either of those literally. A woman should be forced to marry her rapist too after the rapist pays her father 50 sides of silver. We shouldn’t have abolished slavery in the states. Keep stoning ppl. And so on…

A poll???

This isn’t in the realm of “opinion”, like do you think the Yankees will win the penant. This is more like, in your opinion is blue red?

I’m having a tough time finding any of those in the catechism. Can you help me out?

Sure can! 👍 First of all place the discernment of Scripture a bit above of the catechism and you’ll find those in Scripture along with a bunch of other things we don’t believe today. 🙂

Are you equating homosexual acts to other things biblical beliefs that “Catholics don’t take literally”?

The Church is pretty clear on its stance on homosexual acts.

🤷 I’m open to the possibilty while discerning on my lifelong journey. I try not to judge. But I know what the Church says. Peace.

“Judging” is one thing, and telling a brother they are in error is another.
For as you judge, so will you be judged, and the measure with which you measure will be measured out to you.
I’m sure I wouldn’t be the first person to point out that you appear to ignore Catholic doctrine when convenient, especially regarding homesexuality and abortion issues.

I’ll be praying for you Matt.

Scipio, well not necessarily when convenient. But no you wouldn’t be the first and I’m certain not the last. Thank you for your prayers though. I always appreciate prayer and can pray for you unless you mind. James taught to pray for one another so that we be saved. God bless you Scipio and peace.

I would never mind someone praying for me. 🙂

Pax vobiscum

Homosexuality being a sin is a clear statement of scripture.
Therefore, what people “think” cannot be considered.
No amount of circular logic, mental juggling, etc. changes anything.
The fact remains that it is unscriptural be it monogamous or not.
The Earth being the center of the universe is a clear statement of scripture, but I am sure you believe that the revolves around the Sun.

“Do I think Homosexual Acts are Sinful?” I think we need a definition of a Homosexual Act. I think disco clearly was a Homosexual Act and yes I think it is completely sinful.

No, I don’t think its sinful, wrong or otherwise objectionable for two men or two women to live and love one another in a committed relationship.

I see a lot of people quoting some biblical reference and church doctrine.

As the title of this forum does state, this is a forum to discuss non-Catholic religions, including those which are non-Christian.

Arguments citing biblical sources don’t hold much validity for those who don’t believe in it.

But, for the sake of argument, I would point out the verses in the Bible most commonly used by anti-gay proponents are from Leviticus.

What most folks conveniently leave out is the rest of Leviticus, the part where people are sinners if they eat shellfish, or clothing made of blended fabrics, etc.

There is also a prohibition, in the 10 Commandments I believe, against working on Sundays, but it seems most people have conveniently forgotten that as well, because many pray at the altar of avarice rather than at the altar of their local church.

I am sure most of the people here are better versed on the Bible than I, but my point is none here are God and, because of this, none here should be judging anyone else.

There was one person, I believe a woman, who posted earlier in this thread (forgive my not citing it in a quote, but after reading through all this, I am not sure where it was). This lady said that while she doesn’t approve of gay sex acts, and thinks of them as sinful, she also thinks of sex outside of marriage as sinful, and not helping others as sinful, etc., and that none are without sin, so she really was not ready to condemn anyone else.

I think that was perhaps the wisest answer I have read tonight.

I see no problem identifying a sin and discussing it in detail.

The New Testament epistles are full of lists of sins that are well discussed in the Bible and condemned.

I really see no problem making a thread about how murder is wrong and why. Why not make a thread about a different sin that wrong and discuss why?

I really wanted to gather Christian thought on homosexual behavior. I noticed in the last post it said that people who do not believe in the Bible do not care about the scriptural references to homosexuality as a sin. I was not really speaking to that group of people. I was speaking to people who follow the commands of the Bible with this thread.

Many things are sins such as not taking care of the poor. Jesus told us to take care of the least of thee, yet he did not say how much money to spend, how much time to give. If you give too much time to the poor and avoid your family, then that is also a sin.

With Homosexuality, you are either practicing a sex act outside of marriage or you are not. Since a Man can NEVER marry a man, and a woman can NEVER marry a woman, then any sex act between them will always be sinful, no question about it.

I was wondering what the current undertones were in the Episcopal/Anglican/Lutheran churches with this poll as well as providing options for all the other faith traditions and non Christian religions/non-religions to answer the question.
