You are grossly misinformed if you think that Changes in the mass in recent history are detrimental to the faith. I have scanned over one of your links. It is a radical Traditionalist (probably Sedevacantist) site, and therefore has absolutely no credibility.
No you are wrong the sermons are from a FSSP priest in full communion with the local bishop and the Holy Father. Sedevacantists are not Catholic I do not in anyway support them or hold any of the errors they push. the book is from MONSIGNOR GEORGE F. DILLON a holy Orthodox Priest from the 1800’s. Radically Traditionalist no but Orthodox yes.Malachi Martin was an adviser to at least two Popes and one of the most respected exorcists. Maybe you should pray and read the links before you make foolish rash judgments. God Love you! What is interesting about MONSIGNOR GEORGE F. DILLON’s book is it was written in 1885. If you look at where we are now in the Church you have to ask how did MONSIGNOR GEORGE F. DILLON know?

The soul is made up of the intellect and the will. In part Intellectual suicide is death of the soul. We are a people of Faith and Reason. Clearly grace comes through the Apostolic Priesthood. My concerns about the luminous mysteries are in the context of the larger errors and horrors that have been imposed on us since the 1950’s. This includes women on the altar, immodest dress at mass, communion in the hand, and the homosexual priest crisis to name a few. My larger point is that to say that the Mass, rosary, language, practice and doctrine are different now from what they had been till the 50’s and 60’s and to still some how act as if this is the same old religion is not logical. Everything can’t be the same and different at the same time. If we were only talking about a change to the rosary outside of the context of the current horror in the Church my comments would be silly. It is unfair to look at this issue as if all these other things didn’t happen and aren’t still going on.The change to the rosary is part of a bigger change. Then of course we also have the break with the the Psaltery of Our Lady. explained well here.

The changes you refer to are not changes to the core of Catholicism itself, but only a new way of encouraging the faithful to practice their faith – such as a change of clothing – a new hat, a new dress or suit, etc, can be a boost to one’s outlook without changing the person, himself. Nothing fundamental in Catholicism has changed, or can change. Some people are resistant to any change, even an advvantageous one, such as enhancing our contemplation of the life of Christ by adding the Luminous Mysteries. This, it seems to me, is a form of obsessive, compulsive disorder. Hang on for dear life to everything familiar. Nothing new permitted, even if it makes the old more understandable and enjoyable. Did you give a thought to maybe the addition of the Luminous Mysteries might have been accomplished because it was the desire of Jesus, Himself?

Red Herring. The source website has nothing to do with the subject matter.

Regarding the book:

Mgr. Dillon’s work has already been honoured by the Holy Father himself with so marked and so unusual an approbation that there is no need for us to accord it any further praise than merely to take note of the fact. The book was presented to His Holiness, accompanied by an Italian version of its table of contents, and of long extracts from its principal sections,
and Leo XIII was pleased to order that the Italian version should be completed, and the book printed and published at Rome at his own expense." (The Month, Sept. 1885).

Let’s not get too off track tho…

However to hear OCD accusations against adding 50 more decades to the rosary in other words, changing it fundamentally… And making it considerably longer…

One of the great problems of our times is the fact that people in positions of authority have been unable to resist changing and tinkering with every single part of the Faith and her traditions they touch. Now -that- we might want to psychoanalyze a bit and consider the spirit of and its source. But I doubt it’s actually allowed on forums unless you use the most delicate touch.

Sorry your “feelings” about the current state of the Church don’t match the facts. The reason that Catholics abort contracept and divorce at the same rate as Protestants is because Catholics think and now have theology that is heterodox. Dressing immodestly at Mass is not a matter “the times they are a changin” It is reflective of the a rejection of Catholic doctrine in the minds of Catholics. It is in this context that I reject the new Rosary. And from where do you find the term “obsessive compulsive disorder” in Catholic thought? Obsessive compulsive disorder is a worldly term coming from Godless psychology. This goes to my point on language. Catholics must reclaim language. It is Charity not “love” It is the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass not only the “celebration of the Eucharist” Words and how they are used have a impact theologically! This is my concern in part on the luminous mysteries. With Catholics reading many bad “new age type” books that define what it means to be “illuminated” this along with the lack of proper teaching on a whole host of doctrinal matters it is in this context that a 'new" Rosary are problematic. Like the vague word “dialogue” which lead to madness like this lifesitenews.com/ldn/2010/sep/10091514.html I spoke to the woman at this Parish and she really thought this was a sincere act of “dialogue” and ecumenism. My point is words matter. The Truth matters! Sorry I’ll stick to the Rosary St. Pio prayed.

Amen! Thank you! I think what we are seeing is the error of modernism is now flowering fully. As the Holy Father made clear in the Catechism on Modernism it is about three things really 1) Feelings 2) God and Religion exist only in the mind of the believer 3)Perpetual Evolution in practice and doctrine.

I will deal with number 3 here since the heresy of modernism is a error that needs feelings in order to grow in the mind of the heretic this makes necessary Perpetual Evolution in doctrine and practice. The Perpetual Evolution feeds the feelings that make the modernist think that they are “spiritual” This is why we see a new Rosary and new doctrines like Christopher West’s Theology of the Body. The heretics need new things to “feel” God. 2&2=4 Everything can’t be the same and different at the same time. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday today and forever! I reject the new Rosary in this context. God Love you!

You are way out of line accusing virtually everyone who disagrees with you is a modernist heretic.

Thank you for the replies to my question. My feeling of being uncomfortable with praying the rosary in a set format as we do it, Joyful, Luminous, Sorrowful and Glorious, is that we follow this order not only no matter the day of the week on which they fall, but also no matter the Liturgical season. I usually use ‘Come, Pray the Rosary’ when I am praying, and follow the suggested mysteries of the day, but posting that in our thread for the 54-day Novenas is awkward, if I am not praying the same set of mysteries on the same day as everyone else.

My dear friend. This is not about me. This is also not about “everyone”. When we are dealing with the Catholic Faith we are dealing with objective reality. Truth is what we are dealing with.I will not debate you or attack you on red herrings or make this about child like matters. Either one holds the Faith or they don’t. Either one is a modernist heretic or one is not. I don’t get to make the call.Neither do you. Either one conforms to the truth or they don’t. Your words sound subjective. What devotions one likes is a subjective matter. That is why we can disagree on this. God bless you!

I am no longer going to respond your posts. As it stands, you have set yourself up as your own Magisterium. This is not the case. This stacne makes you no different than the reformers. I implore you to submit to the CHurch, and not your own understanding of what you think the Church should be.

I think that is best. I will pray for you. Please pray for me. Peace be to you! I hope you have a great and blessed day. I hope these links help prevent schism. Pray for unity in the Church.

I see some of the arguments being bounced back and forth on this thread as actually coming from the same side of the fence.

@PioKolby :

I know you meant to say women on the “sanctuary” , because only our Blessed Lord is ever on the “altar”. A friend of mine who is maybe 20 years older told me that “altar boys” were supposed to be the initial seedbed for vocations to the ministerial priesthood. You may conclude that he isn’t enthused about female altar servers - but not because they are female ; rather, because he wonders if it has had an effect on the amount of vocations we have at present. If the ministerial priesthood is something God calls men to, it makes sense that we should try to cultivate an openess to it in young men and I find his point difficult to argue against, although in most cases, children bring a beautiful unpretentiousness to the Mass when they come.

My own view on women in the sanctuary is that it can be a distraction, not always - but perhaps if one were to be provocatively or indecently clothed, it can be a problem as you also imply- anywhere in the church - not only the sanctuary. I find myself nodding at some of the other problems you mentioned too. But these problems aren’t everywhere, in every parish. Granted, in certain locations we can almost get a whiff of a spiritual stench from what is purported to be worship. But I don’t know if it’s fair to the others to generalize.

I’d like to bring foward a point I made in post # 38 which concurs with your comments : We can see an erosion of the sense of the sacred. Those things you mentioned…those things I mentioned - Where does it all hit the hardest ? The answer is in the Eucharist. That is one of the main thrusts of satan’s attack - on belief in the real, personal Presence of our loving Saviour in the Blessed Sacrament… The “distraction” in the sanctuary or anywhere else in church is distracting our attention away from the worship which culminates in the Holy Eucharist. I could tell you some horror stories about what the Chancery office was promulgating here during the H1N1 period … And oddly enough, these errors seem to almost unfailingly lead to incredulity towards our Blessed Lord in the most Holy Sacrament of the altar.

I’m sorry guys. I’m long-winded. I’ll have to continue in the next post. It might be beneficial for us to take a look at one of Don Bosco’s better known dreams (continued …

… continuation ) :

If anyone needs to read up a little on Don Bosco’s dream about the Barque of Peter, a little precis of it can be found here . Here’s a fair pic for anyone who likes a “visual”,. There are other pics too if you look around. Here’s a monsignor’s short interpretation of the dream . Although one popular interpretation is that the second pope in the dream is John Paul II, someone actually said they are reminded of Pope Benedict XVI by Don Bosco’s dream. Now if you really like gravy, look at the dream as described by Don Bosco himself.

Although we’re supposed to keep an open mind on prophecy, can anyone who takes our Holy Catholic Church seriously say there isn’t a storm breaking over the Church, and for that matter, there isn’t a spiritual war which rages around us ?

Quite a coincidence - what we see today which leads to incredulity in the True Presence in the Eucharist and how the Barque of Peter in the dream, as it tried to move towards the pillar of the Eucharist and the pillar of our Blessed Mother, to shore up and anchor, was even more fiercely attacked by the enemy … Wouldn’t you say ?

So what happens in the dream ? The Barque is safe between the two pillars of the Holy Eucharist, and devotion to Mary . Perhaps I might describe the second coincidence this way : Although he died in 1888, I would venture to say that Saint John Bosco would’ve had no problem whatsoever in praying the Fifth Luminous Mystery…even though 😉 , he was never obliged.

I was kind of hoping everyone would keep posting because we’re getting enriched by a lot of different viewpoints on this thread. I’m learning a lot from my fellow members, and it can be beneficial to see how others view certain things. For example, I started poking around The Remnant Newspaper site through the link PioKolby provided. They have a direct link to the Vatican website. This next thing is probably off topic but, thanks again to “The Remnant” link, I found and read the Encyclical of Pope Pius XI on the Motion Picture - Vigilanti Cura . It does help us see what we’re up against today, but not only in the Church, in the whole of society . Here’s an excerpt from the Encyclical …Consider it in contrast to all the damage that pornography is wreaking today in the name of freedom of expression :

**The Influence of the Motion Picture **

“…In August 1934, addressing Ourselves to a delegation of the International Federation of the Motion Picture Press, We pointed out the very great importance which the motion picture has acquired in our days and its vast influence alike in the promotion of good and in the insinuation of evil, and We called to mind that it is necessary to apply to the cinema the supreme rule which must direct and regulate the great gift of art in order that it may not find itself in continual conflict with Christian morality or even with simple human morality based upon the natural law. The essential purpose of art, its raison d’être, is to assist in the perfection of the moral personality, which is man, and for this reason it must itself be moral. And We concluded amidst the manifest approval of that elect body - the memory is still dear to Us — by recommending to them the necessity of making the motion picture ‘ moral, an influence for good morals, an educator.’ ”

Like you. I am less than happy about the state of affairs of many of our Catholics in the pew and out. The dress code is non-existent, and the morals, as you say, are almost indistinguishable from any other segment of our society. I don’t attribute this to to a rejection of the Catholic doctrine, as much as a general lack of catechesis among the Catholic population. In my youth we were taught the basics of Catholicism from the catechism, and properly informed nuns. All that changed unfortunately, and we were left with poorly catechised people who were unable to understand what the faith actually taught as truth, and were easily led to blend in with the general population. In other words, they didn’t know what they were missing. We have to pray that this is a temporary condition that will reverse itself in time, as we come to understand its origins, and proper catechesis becomes the norm again.

As for OCD, I have seen this too much to believe it’s part of a Godless psychology. It’s very real and very difficult to deal with. Words are important, of course, but if properly understood, they will not be a barrier to understanding the wonders of the Mass. Here is another instance of proper catechesis. Christ is the “Light of the World,” so using “light” or “luminous” when referring to the public life of Christ as He spreads the Good News should not be eliminated because of some New Age terminology. I have no doubt at all that Padre Pio would have been the chief advocator of the Luminous Mysteries if they had been introduced as such in his lifetime.

*Dear PioKolby,
I do not believe that any errors or horrors one might see in the church today are caused by our Apostolic Church’s Leaders in their leadership and guidance.
I believe they are caused by us not wanting to listen and learn from our Apostolic Leaders and because we are not willing to follow them in their leadership and guidance.
Our will seems to win more times than not.
I have a very hard time believing anyone who says they are traditional and then they try to “intellectually” tell the sheep not to trust or believe in their Shepherd’s leadership and guidance. To me these people are the sheep in wolf’s clothes that we are warned about.
I also know that the first commandment says to Love the Lord your God with thy whole Heart, thy whole Mind, and thy whole Soul. It has to be all three. The point I was trying to make when I commented on your “intellectual suicide” is that I do not believe we can just focus on intellectually understanding God. At some point we have to have faith. To me having faith is believing what we can not intellectually understand and the reward of this faith is to eventually intellectually understand what we have believed. We may not always understand why or were our Apostolic Church Leaders are leading us but we have to have faith in them. If we do not how can we ever understand were they are leading us.
I do so agree that there is truly a spiritual warfare going on right now and it has to do with our will verses God’s Will. How do we know God’s Will? Through our Apostolic Leaders.

I do hope and pray this makes some sense,*

Goodness! I do not think I will ever understand why this–of all things–is such a bone of contention. It’s just an instance of the pope doing what the pope (through the grace of God) is allowed to do.

Has anyone actually read JPII’s apostolic letter Rosarium Virginis Mariae? He explains this all quite well. I think a read through would do wonders to answer anyone’s lingering questions about why JPII did this and by what authority.

John Paul II set the schedule in the aforementioned apostolic letter. Here is the relevant passage from paragraph #38:
  1. The Rosary can be recited in full every day, and there are those who most laudably do so. In this way it fills with prayer the days of many a contemplative, or keeps company with the sick and the elderly who have abundant time at their disposal. Yet it is clear – and this applies all the more if the new series of mysteria lucis is included – that many people will not be able to recite more than a part of the Rosary, according to a certain weekly pattern. This weekly distribution has the effect of giving the different days of the week a certain spiritual “colour”, by analogy with the way in which the Liturgy colours the different seasons of the liturgical year.
According to current practice, Monday and Thursday are dedicated to the “joyful mysteries”, Tuesday and Friday to the “sorrowful mysteries”, and Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday to the “glorious mysteries”. Where might the “mysteries of light” be inserted? If we consider that the “glorious mysteries” are said on both Saturday and Sunday, and that Saturday has always had a special Marian flavour, the second weekly meditation on the “joyful mysteries”, mysteries in which Mary’s presence is especially pronounced, could be moved to Saturday. Thursday would then be free for meditating on the “mysteries of light”.

This indication is not intended to limit a rightful freedom in personal and community prayer, where account needs to be taken of spiritual and pastoral needs and of the occurrence of particular liturgical celebrations which might call for suitable adaptations. What is really important is that the Rosary should always be seen and experienced as a path of contemplation. In the Rosary, in a way similar to what takes place in the Liturgy, the Christian week, centred on Sunday, the day of Resurrection, becomes a journey through the mysteries of the life of Christ, and he is revealed in the lives of his disciples as the Lord of time and of history.

There is no obligation to follow this schedule. However, if the pope recommended it, I see no compelling reason to invent my own schedule.

I have to wonder, if the pope does not have the authority to do such a thing, who does? By what authority were the original mysteries propagated?
Dear Joe,
I was not aware of this Apostolic Letter.
Thank you so much for posting it

Thank you for your thoughtful answer. God love you! Any thoughts on Psaltery of Our Lady:
**" “the Psaltery of Our Lady—150 Hail Mary’s.” The reference to the Psaltery is telling, for the traditional Rosary is modeled on the ancient Psalter of 150 Psalms: 150 songs to Mary; fifty Aves for each of the triad of mysteries—the Joyful, the Sorrowful, the Glorious; a triune prayer addressed to the Mother of God.

The reference to the Psaltery is telling for another reason: It is indirectly an unfavorable comment on the “new” Rosary of John Paul II, which added five “luminous” mysteries, and thus 50 more Aves, to the traditional Rosary. That makes a total of 200 Aves, which would destroy the Rosary’s ancient correspondence to the 150 Psalms of the Psalter; the Rosary would no longer be “the Psaltery of Our Lady.” Then, of course, the “new” Rosary would no be longer triune, but rather would have four parts involving 50 Aves each: Joyful, Sorrowful, Glorious, and “Luminous.” **

I would really like to know what everyone in this tread thinks of this matter.
