Not to derail the thread (though I do not think this will) I am five and a half years into formation. I have three years left, all of them finishing up the Masters of Divinity program.
God Bless !!! My prayers for your vocation and your training.

From a wannabe carmelite to an already carmelite, you KNOW you have my prayers…🙂 I just realized we are in the same province:eek:…but not the same…what? What would be the word?

Congrats! Best of luck and all my prayers to you 🙂

There is already another thread on this - may I suggest asking the moderators to merge these threads.

Commenting on the original topic, after everything that has transpired so far, the only thing in the new release that surprises me is the allegation (it was not said that it had been confirmed) of improper sacramental practices. It didn’t go into detail, but somehow I didn’t think that, no matter how the man may have sunk back into old sexual sins and substance abuse, he would do anything improper with regard to the sacraments. This is the man who [clamed to have] made a holy hour in front of a sacristy in which the liturgical vessels were being improperly purified.

Lets not jump to conclusions here. Improper Sacramental practices does not necessarily mean anything happened or is accused of happening with the Eucharist. There are six other Sacraments. We just need to pray.

I have only recently found out about Father Corapi and watched a couple of videos on Youtube.

I haven’t read all the posts. Is it PROVEN that he had sexual relations to women and was taking drugs and alcohol? Or are they still investigating?
I’m asking because I’m reading a lot about Padre Pio at the moment and even HE was accused of inducing his stigmata with acid, he was also alleged to have misused funds and to have had sex with female parishioners.

But Padre Pio did not leave the priesthood. He endured the test of time.

James, thank you for that link. I, too, found it interesting, and the one comment below it. (I swear I had not read it before posting my previous comments!) 🙂

Separately, I have also read about the case of Fr. McCrae (wrongly accused).

I thank all who are keeping an open mind and keeping Fr. Corapi in prayer. I do want the entire truth to come out, regardless of what that truth is, which I do not pre-judge. 🙂

I, for one, am greatly saddened, but not alltogether surprised. I really appreciated hearing a priest who “told it like it is” with great directness. However, when I first found out that his tapes, etc. were so expensive, much more expensive than similar material available from other R.C. oganizations, and that they were available only from a private company,I became a little suspicious. It is one thing for Catholic religious orders and organizations to benefit financially from the sale of religious tapes, discs, etc.,
but I feel quite strongly against any individual or lay organization profiting from Catholic evangelization.
Fr. Corapi’s whole reaction in this affair has been more like a business executive trying to save a business, than a an unfairly accused Catholic Priest. And, as one who is very familiar to substance abusers, many of his recent pronouncements on line sounded like those made by someone “under the influence”.
Lastly, I do believe the latest pronouncement of the S.O.L.T. authorities. I really feel sorry for them to have been put in their current position.
As for Corapi’s blind defenders, I fully appreciate that we all are sinners to various extents, but I ask only one question: What happened to his vows of Poverty, Chastity, and Obedience? Nobody twisted his arm or otherwise coerced him when he made them!
Needless to say, I will pray to the Holy Mother for him.

Wait, don’t get me wrong. I don’t believe the things Padre Pio was accused of:eek:. It just reminded me when I heard what Father Corapi was accused of. I just wanted to know if it has been proven that he actually did those things or if they’re still investigating.

Listening to Father Corapi is one of the reasons for my conversion to the Catholic Church:confused:
Don’t worry though, there are many priests out there that inspire just as much as he did and are true to their faith; they are just not as well known. I am fortunate to have a priest just as charismatic as him in my parish :). We must keep strong, and not let one more sinful priest bring us down. The church has been here for thousands of years and it will be here to stay.

The Truth he taught is not changed by the sinfulness he hid from us. God works all things for the good of those who love Him. He used Peter to found the One True Church and spread it to the ends of the Earth, even though Peter renounced Him during His Passion. Don’t worry about Fr. Corapi’s presonal sins; they have nothing to do with you. There have always been sinners within the ranks of the priesthood; some are just worse than others. But Christ is perfect and His Church will always be holy because of Him. 🙂 God bless the Catholic Church!

(P.S. Welcome Home!)
I completely agree.👍

Like someone else said: WOW! My head is spinning with all this. If this stuff is true, there has been some terrible sinning going on here. Everyone involved needs our prayers for sure. Just shows why a person needs to keep their faith in the Church, and not just mortal men.

I did not, of course, mean to imply that a Eucharistic abuse necessarily occured. Still, all the sacraments need to be treated with respect because of the One who instituted them.

The devil won this one.
No. John Corapi is alive and the state of his soul on the day of his death is what matters.
When I said “The devil won this one”, I wasn’t referring to Fr. Corapi’s soul. I was referring to the battle of good against evil, i.e., the powerfully effective preaching of Fr. Corapi has been essentially silenced. I not sure even his Black Sheep Dog effort can (or should) survive this tragic debacle.
