New US Bishop: Knoxville, Tennessee

This morning the Vatican announced Pope Benedict XVI’s decision to name Bishop-elect Richard F. Stika as the new Bishop of Knoxville, Tennessee,USA.

The diocese had been vacant since then-Bishop Joseph Edward Kurtz was named Archbishop of Louisville, Kentucky in June 2007.

Bishop-elect Stika had been a priest of the Archdiocese of St. Louis, Missouri.

Further details: He will be ordained and installed on 19 March by Cardinal Rigali.

Whats he like? orthodox /conservative or more liberal?

I don’t know him personally. The St. Louis Archdiocese website has several good articles on him.

One thing of note: he is bi-ritual (Maronite being the 2nd).

…and he was probably nominated with the concurance , if not the active participation, of Archbishop Burke.
