Thank you! I should have posted the link myself! How bad of me and I am a member at Father Paul’s parish and frequent his message board quite often!

I attended Mass this morning in the diocese of Dallas, and have a question. During the prayers, we prayed for “Charles, our Apostolic administrator” instead of “Charles, our Bishop”. Bp. Grahmann is still the Bishop of Dallas until Bp. Farrell is installed May 1, so I’m confused. Can anyone explain?

Technically speaking, Bishop Grahmann is now Bishop Emeritus of Dallas. However, as is normal practice, he will remain as Apostolic Administrator of the diocese until his successor is installed.

Bishop Farrell is, technically, Bishop-elect of Dallas until his installation on 1 May.

Yes, I think at Mass they can now pray for our Bishop Kevin.

I think you can still say “Charles our Bishop”…the term apostolic administrator doesn’t appear in the prayers.

I am blessed indeed! I travel an hour each Sunday to Mass and it has been a time of spiritual growth and blessing in our lives. God is good and although former Bishop Grahmann ( i love saying former!) wished to do away with Fr. Paul…he has only succeeded in making the orthodoxy in this parish stronger!

Oh, I also found out that as soon as a Bishop is declared Bishop by the Pope then the Bishop at the time ceases to be Bishop. So, Grahmann is no longer Bishop. Instead, Bishop Kevin is now the Bishop of the Dallas diocese.

Just to clarify, Bishop Grahmann became “Bishop Emeritus” (aka, retired bishop) of Dallas effective on 6 March (Canon 402p1). At the same time he became the Apostolic Administrator of the diocese. Thus while he is no longer the ordinary of the diocese, he does exercise, temporarily, some authority there.

Bishop Farrell, Bishop-elect of Dallas, is scheduled to be installed on 1 May. At that time, Bishop Farrell becomes properly “Bishop of Dallas” with all the responsibilities and authority of the office (Canon 382p1). At the same time, Bishop Grahmann will cease to be the Apostolic Administrator.
