Sorry this is all pretty standard JW stuff. almost every one of their websites reads the same or very close to the same. it’s almost as if someone is afraid to have an original thought.I remember looking up the NWT on different JW websites blogs. Always the same. It’s a little scary to say the least.
Thank you for your (name removed by moderator)ut “juliamajor,” as it’s so good to know from your reporting on this matter that, among Jehovah’s Witnesses, they are, indeed, demonstrating what St. Paul had stated should, indeed, be the case among Christ’s followers:

“I urge you, brothers, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree in what you say, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be united in the same mind and in the same purpose.” - (1 Corinthians 1:10, Catholic New American Bible, 1986).

I never knew it was against God’s Law to Think:shrug:I guess a brain is there just to give your head shape:D. (if we didn’t have a skull and brain the head would kinda just flop around and the eyes would pop out!) I don’t think the Good Lord wants regurgitating robot’s. He gave us brains , to think, wonder, discern, discuss and yes, sometimes disagree.

The JW’s are not permitted to have original thoughts. If they do they are told to readjust their thinking. Mores the pity.

I stay away from their blogs. I do read some of the conversion stories of ex JW’s. I find them interesting and lucky the ones who finally recognize the truth.

Dear Jeanne,

Actually, as people study the Bible with Jehovah’s Witnesses they are, indeed, encouraged to think and reason quite freely. In fact, I would venture to say that the vast majority of those who, today, identify themselves with the Christian congregation’s of Jehovah’s Witnesses had initially been regularly encouraged to take much time and prayerful thought to the things they were learning, always being encouraged to investigate on their own the veracity of the things they were learning.

Then, after that time, you will find that, all the while they are speaking to others (either at forums like this or of their own, or even at the doors of their neighbors), they are quite regularly exposed to other ideas and interpretations of the Bible, always willing to take the time to further investigate such matters (for themselves and/or for others); and this, not to the exclusion of the utilization of ‘outside’ resources. (My own work, “What About John 1:1?,” as being still in progress, as well as any number of other independently published works by Jehovah’s Witnesses is a testament to the truthfulness of just such a fact.)

Dear juliamajor,

I am sorry to hear of your incorect understanding of Jehovah’s Christian Witnesses. I would encourage you to consider what I had just written to JeanneH, at the following LINK.

Hi Alan,

I have heard every argument about “a god” from a JW . She and I actually study together. I have learned a great deal about my own Catholicism from her.

The NWT is the only contemporary bible that I know of that translates John1.1 as “a god”. I guess it is all in each religions interpretation of scriptures as to how they read John 1.1. Actually I think that the JW"s protest too much that Jesus is not God. Just as you have your scholars saying your rendition of John 1.1 is the right one there are just as many scholars that say other wise.

In reading Catholic and even Protestant bibles one knows that Jesus is part of the Trinity and therefore God.

I don’t know too much about Mr. Barkley but he not being Catholic doesn’t have the guidance of the Magisterium .

Dear Jeanne,

Well, as I had earlier quoted, I fully agree with following statement, and this, as be stated by a very reliable Catholic source:

“The formulation ‘one God in three Persons’ was not solidly established, certainly not fully assimilated into Christian life and its profession of faith, prior to the end of the 4th century. But it is precisely this formulation that has first claim to the title the Trinitarian dogma. Among the Apostolic Fathers, there had been nothing even remotely approaching such a mentality or perspective…”

Taken from: Richard, R. L. (b.?-d.?). Article on “Trinity, Holy” appearing within: The New Catholic Encyclopedia. Prepared by an Editorial Staff at the Catholic University of America, Washington, D. C. (New York, New York: McGraw-Hill, 1967-c1989), vol. XIV [14], pp. 299 (italics theirs). BX841 .N44 1967 / 66-022292.

And again, the import of such a statement becomes all the more significant when we appreciate the very important fact that “the Apostolic Fathers” are those who were said to have lived during the same time period as the Apostles themselves; perhaps, with some having even been directly instructed by them.

Therefore, it is my contention that if, even from among “the Apostolic Fathers,” “there had been nothing even remotely approaching such a mentality or perspective [as a Trinitarian concept of God, that is, as can be discoverd within any of their writings]” and, especially, for this teaching to not have ever been a part of the Christian “profession of faith,” that is, as expressed within any Christian ‘declaration of belief,’ until the end of the 4th century, then this would unequivocally substantiate the fact that neither the Apostles nor any of the earliest of Christians could have ever believed, taught, or defended any such radically new concept about God - especially as different than what the Jews had believed about their God many centuries before.

As for having our own scholars which support the “a god” translation of theos within John 1:1c, please, keep in mind, my reply to you had been in response to the link of which you, yourself, had provided, one apparently meant to discredit Jehovah’s Witnesses New World Translation.

And, when they had cited Barclay as against Jehovah’s Witnesses New World Translation rendering, by putting into proper perspective the abuse of that scholars’ statements, I have only attempted to demonstrate that, when it comes to those who would rally against us, these are being quite disingenuous with their sources, often misrepresenting the true facts of the matter (and, perhaps as you too have seen, even in how they may also do so against the Catholic Church as well).

Now, with respect to your comment, “I think that the JW"s protest too much that Jesus is not God,” as you must admit, having the proper view and appreciation of God and Jesus are, indeed, quite important. In fact, I am quite certain that such an item of importance would also be the same view of the Vatican as well. As emphasizing the importance of remaining within the correct view, within the Bible we read:

“If anybody does not keep within the teaching of Christ but goes beyond it, he cannot have God with him;…” - (2 John 9a, Catholic Jerusalem Bible, 1966).

Therefore, in view of this (and other such statements within the Bible), it is my opinion that this, in itself, would require that we acquire a correct view of such important spiritual matters, that is, in order to ‘have God with us.’

Oh yeah, and those links . They are from the very sophisticated Jack Chick school of Catholic knowledge. And again those sites prove I have a very correct view of YHWH’'s witnesses.👍

It seems to me if a Bible translation is altered to support a particular theology it is an admission that the theology is not compatible with scripture. Has anyone done a thourough deconstruction of NWT? On the internet there are enough JWs it seems to keep this as a “good” literal translation with its casting doubt on the Trinity.

Is there a good work that seriously traces the evolution of the NWT and how it has warped scripture to match its theology?

Or is it in fact a bible and the Trinity is not clearly revealed by scripture and one needs sacred tradition?

I am concerned that JW keeps thriving with doctrinal ideas against Jesus as Lord and yet it is still being discussed in terms of the Holy Bible. Doesn’t it have more in common with Islam? Being non-trinitarian but also basing itself on a corruption of exegesis from the OT and NT?

Do people who join JW realize that they are denying that Jesus is Lord and the sacrifice could not be perfect and fulfilling if He were not Who He said He was?

People go through all the effort of trying to follow God and then ignore His Son. It is sad. How can we clarify the Truth. The internet is surely garbled as it is now.

A verse that seems to have been missed is Colossians 1.16 - the NWT NT inserts the word “other” in it. There is no textual support for this, nor does the context call for it. It distorts the text and what it means. 😦

Dear Gottle of Geer,

With respect to the issues you’ve raised concerning Jehovah’s Witnesses New World Translation rendition of Colossians 1:16 & 17, there is much in explanation/justification of it. Perhaps, if you wish, you might want to examine the contents of the following:

Does the New World Translation Add Words to Colossians 1:16, 17?

Col 1:15-20 NWT . “other”. Why?

Hi Alan,

Thank you for providing the source for your reference. Unfortunately. I don’t have access to it.

The few Watchtower magazines that I have read especially " Should You Believe In the Trinity" creatively edit their references and never give a source. When you read the entire paragraph the the writer is quoting from you get the true meaning. Being that the Witnesses study from these magazines at their meetings I can understand why a source isn’t given. Unfortunately, the Witness that I talk to has no desire to read the “complete” paragraph that the reference was taken from therefore not getting the truth. She trusts the Watchtower at face value which is a shame.

Please see this site from another Catholic Encyclopedia.

Dear Jeanne,

Thank you for you thoughts, that is, on this matter of the Watchtower methods of quoting others. On the chance that you might not be aware of this, in actuality, some years in the past, it was somewhat a regular practice of citing the sources for every reference; but, even today, if there are materials being quoted, and someone wanted to learn of their sources, they’d only have to write to the Watchtower Society and ask - oftentimes, they will even provide a photo-copy of the materials themselves.

As to the charge of misrepresenting others when quoting, although I know there are many who are quick to make this claim, on the other hand, I have personally investigated much of this myself and, along with even some of our opposers (including some who are neutral on such matters), for what it’s worth, I have concluded that such accusations are quite unfounded. (Perhaps we can discuss some examples at a later time).

Perhaps the thing to keep in mind is that, when discussing the subject of the Trinity doctrine, if a quote is drawn from a Trinitarian source, oftentimes it is to point to a specific issue at hand, but not to the suggestion that such ones are, in any way, necessarily in agreement with us, that is, by way of any of their subsequent thoughts, even with respect to any of their other stated related points.

What I find quite curious is the way(s) in which many of those within the Trinitarian scholarly community often attempt to have it both ways - to have expressed quite correctly a certain fact (of which we might likely agree), but then also closely follow with another statement of opinion (of which we might not likely agree). The sad fact is that the general reading public cannot always tell where the one begins and the other ends.

Now, granted, there are likely to be many here who would be quite quick to say as much about the Watchtower Society as well - but, just saying so does not prove the point, any more that my saying so either. And this is where I believe Jehovah’s Holy spirit comes into play, touching the hearts of those individuals, all in order to lead honest hearted ones to the “Truth” of such matters.

Now, with respect to the link you’ve provided above, thank you. As I would hope you’d expect, I, for one, have done my best to examine in detail both sides of the issue of the Trinity - pro and con (from within the writings of both). Through this effort, I have discovered that, one of the principal reasons why so much disagreement takes place between the two camps is simply because there is really no real dialogue which occurs between them (Trinitarian vs. non-Trinitarian) - and, I might add, that both can be equally responsible for this difficulty.

Dear Juliamajor,

My use of ‘JW sources’ was to address what I thought to be a question as to how (and if) we might respond to the accusation of unjustifiably adding the word “other” within our New World Bible translation of Colossians 1:16, as mentioned by Gootle of Geer, as quoted within my message to him, number 30 of this forum.

Therefore, the links I provided were to those of which other ‘JW’s’ had composed, providing what I hoped would be an answer to that charge, especially by way of what they had done in their analysis of this issue, including an invitation (by them and me), to also give consideration to their use of scholarly, well respected materials.

If, on the other hand, after having examined what they contain and how they have reasoned on this matter proves to be not subtle to your sense of “Truth,” that’s fine - I certainly accept and will respect that position.

Why have you decided to question
what The Holy Catholic Church has
already proclaimed DOCTRINE.

What difference dose it make when you THINK the Holy Trinity was revealed. You were not put in
a position by God to decide. Christ was head of the church when C.T.Russel decided to start his own. Do you think C.T.Russel to be
Smarter then the Lord? This is blasphemy!

Christ is directing The Catholic Church, this is why we Know the TRUTH of the Holy Trinity.

The watchtower bible and tract society or self appointed Jehovahs witnesses, dose not have Christ to
guide it, that is why you think Jesus Christ is Michael an Archangel, that is why you don’t even know The Holy Spirit is a person. You think only 144,000 go to heaven. etc…etc… This stuff was not handed down to the Church from the apostles.

It is ok to think about the teachings
of Mother Church, Its even ok to go back and study early counsels.
But it seems you have gone so far
as to declare a DIFFERENT DOCTRINE, then that which we received from the apostles.

This makes you dangerously close
to being an apostate or heratic. I
say dangerously CLOSE because I don’t have athority from the Catholic Church to say who is and isn’t a heratic.
I don’t expect you to understand
immediately. But as a Catholic its my duty to tell you the truth, which
is watchtower bible and tract society are wolves in sheeps clothing. Do not be fooled, the devil transforms himself into an angel of light.

REPENT and leave these doctrines
of men!

sincere is an under statement!

If a man was walking on rail road
tracts and a train was coming at him. Would you not sound the warning?

The train is The Holy Catholic Church. The man is you. I am in know way joking. Listen to what I am about to say carefully, if you
don’t listen to anything else listen to this!

I understand that you don’t fully know what you are doing, its ok take your time and study. But becarfull not to directly speak against The Holy Spirit! That is blasphemy! Don’t speak against the Catholic Church in your door to
door activities for fear that you may stumble someone! Speak against any other church but not The Catholic Church, because to do that would be to fight against God.

Simply don’t do or say anything against The Church until you first do a FULL investigation, and Fully understand what you are doing.

I want you to be on your guard against serious sin.
