I have dealt with this issue on a motorbike forum I moderate.
  1. It wasn’t a motorcycle gang.
2, the driver’s anxiety in driving among motorcycles led to him accidentally hitting one of the riders.
  2. A rider who was full of adrenaline at this point tried to slow down the car and got hit (his fault not he drivers)
  3. This caused more panic, chaos and anger. The riders swarmed the car. He understandably got angry/scared and left quickly, and in the process drove over some riders and their bikes, paralyzing one man.
  4. Some riders chased him down, and a couple smashed in his windows.
  5. Bystanders took charge until the police came.
It’s not about his race, the fact he was a cager (car driver), or that they were bikers. It’s about anxiety, immaturity, fear, over reaction and anger on all sides. All elements that need to be disposed of when driving/riding on the public roads.

Are you justifying the motorcyclists’ actions? It sure sounds like it.

Oh really?

Doesn’t it sound like I’m justifying the drivers actions too?

I can do the mad smilies too:mad:

Perhaps I’m saying exactly what I mean…

Perhaps you didn’t read that.

I read it. I also watched the video footage and read the reports. You are trying to make the driver and motorcyclists equivalent in their actions is what it sounds like to me. They weren’t.

The motorcyclists were attempting to force the driver to stop so they could shake him down for cash - apparently a common practice in that area. When he panicked and drove away the motorcyclists grew angry that their meal ticket was leaving.

They were equivalent in their panic, fear, stupidity and overreaction.

Where do you get that from?

I don’t know about a shake down, but there is no way there is an equivalency between the driver and the motorcyclists. I don’t blame the driver for being afraid. I have no problem with motorcyclists, but I justifying a mob attack by motorcyclists? Please.

The short stopping on the highway is a common practice to force people to stop so they can be robbed. When the driver of the Range Rover left without paying the “road tax” the other cyclist chased him down.

The hospitalized rider has a lengthy criminal history and had his auto license suspended until 2017 for reckless driving, he never had a motorcycle license.

Wish the guy had had some pepper spray like the riot police use. Would have liked to see all those low-life cowards gasping for air with their eyes on fire.

Good thing that NYC has a gun ban so this man couldn’t defend himself and his family from these low-life criminal scum cowards. Sure that Mayor Bloomberg would have enough armed body guards so that this never happened to him though.

Oh - the well known Daily Fail - who obviously had a reporter on hand!

The truth is - no one knows the truth in this situation yet.

Something happened before the film started. And then the situation got out of hand. The rider who was struck from behind caused his own accident - as I said in my first post above. But when a rider goes down panic ensues. And when a mob panics it’s not pretty.

So until we know more FACTS (not conjecture from the daily fail) I’ll stand behind my original comments -

Thanks for the explanation. Now the whole story starts to make more sense to me.

It’s not an explanation - it’s conjecture from a tabloid newspaper half a world away that knows nothing more than the little that is known.

Typical gang mentality. The fact that this isn’t a documented gang means very little as opposed to the foolishness of their behavior. That looked like some type of predator feeding frenzy. Good reason why gun laws should remain in full effect.

A maniac foaming at the mouth while beating the window to the point of exhaustion. He was in his right mind?

Nothing like stopping in front of a vehicle with a bike as was done. That’s a safe bet for a trip to the emergency room. All good example’s when respect of the machine, the road and the law go out the window. Instant idiots.

What a terrible situation and riding over guys on bikes and mowing down people on bikes isn’t high on my list of bright either. Wow, what a mess for a whole bunch of people taking a ride on a nice day.

Who wants to take a relaxing ride on I-95 in NYC anyway.

Actually there are several media sources with similar stories and varying information on those involved. Basically they were a gang of thugs looking for easy money - a rich guy in a Range Rover with his wife and kid looked like it.

Yet, you know it wasn’t about race, the fact that he was a ‘cager,’ etc. And, you know that something happened prior to the video that caused the biker to confront the driver (by cutting him off and slowing down). You charging someone else with conjecture is kind of funny…

Kind of puts a bow on it.
