I can understand him getting the boot for what he said. It was insulting and demeaning. However, if he politely asked him to wash his forehead, would you comply? To my understanding we are not required to wear the ashes after Mass and since a prestigious hotel wants to put a professional appearance, it would seem reasonable to require its employees to be clean looking.

Some kind of time off with no pay might have been more appropriate along with a class on world religions for this boss may have been more valuable. Now he goes away with an even greater hatred for a Catholic who he probably blames for the loss of his job, rather than his own inexcusable response to ashes on one’s forehead. More reasons to pray, I guess for the world to come to know and understand love one another.

I disagree completely. He thoroughly deserved termination with prejudice.Perhaps others will learn from this response. The French have a term for it-“Pour encourager les autres”.

"Wipe that f…g s…t off your face?It just happens to be Ash Wednsday and it just happens to be in the shape of a cross?Give me a break he knew EXACTLY what he was doing.Kudos to Mr.Chowdry.

He earned his pass out the door.
Would he have had the nerve to tell a Muslim employee bowing to Mecca to knock it off, or a Sikh in a turban to doff his headgear? Although it is “a Catholic thing”, this is also an affront to Protestant denominations that have also adopted the rite of imposing ashes on Ash Wednesday.

The hotel leases its land from the Catholic Church.
I wonder if this is had something to do with why Chowdray flew in to personally hand this man his pink slip.

Or would he tell an Orthodox Jewish employee to shave his beard and/or remove the small prayer shawl many Orthodox Jewish men wear under their jackets? I’m glad this man got the kick in the wallet that he deserved for being such a bigot.
