It isn’t now, but it was much better 10 years ago, at ~ 37%.

The fact remains that 33% of the people in DOR’s collective pews 10 years ago are no longer there today. And no, there has been no overall population change during that period; our 12 county population is down less than 0.5% since 2000.

(BTW, DOR’s Catholic marriages and infant baptisms are also tanking, but that’s a subject for another time.)
How is that significantly different from any other diocese in the United States?

So, tell me guys how does a priest who has been excommunicated gets to keep the Catholic Parish? isn’t him supposed to be banned from the Church?

St Cecilia is in the thread about the gay mass, not here.

Turns out the the priest was excommunicated when he formed Spiritus Christi “church”.

The state senator was excommunicated when he joined the church…

So, the real thing to get upset about is the state senator is representing himself as a Catholic in good standing…

That’s the real issue here… 👍

Sequence of events – he was transferred from his parish (called Corpus Christi), a committee from CC held an illicit Communion service. Fr. Callan was suspended from priestly ministry after coming back and participating in that service, CC morphed into Spiritus Christi and is not affilitated at all with the diocese of Rochester or the Catholic Church. Fr. Callan seems to have incurred excommunication for his participation in the “ordination” of the woman now leading the Spiritus Christi congregation. She was “ordained” by an Old Catholic Bishop.
What are you talking about?

Fr. Jim Callan was never assigned to a church once he was excommunicated.
He wasn’t even serving as a priest by that time.

I think he was suspended from priestly ministry when he helped form the Spiritus Christi community. He was supposed to have been serving another parish at the time. It looks like he finally made it to excommunication over the female ordination affair.

Here is the history of Spiritus Christi from their own web site. What is really frightening is that they claim that the Bishop was fine with what they were doing and only acted after being forced to by the Vatican.

Equally frightening is that they started consecrating grape juice in 1992, celebrating gay unions in 1993 and the woman now calling herself a priest started hearing Confessions at Corpus Christi in 1996 all years before the Bishop acted against them in 1998.

Now lest this be accused of being OT, there are now several “confirmations” that the NY Senator in question is a member of Spiritus Christi and no longer affiliated with any Catholic parish. This includes the NY Times.
Mr. Wood worships with Mr. Alesi at Spiritus Christi Church, a Catholic congregation that broke with Rome in order to support gay men and lesbians, as well as women in the clergy.

Thanks Corki - I use to attend Corpus Christi - but left many years before much of the stuff you mention started.

What you say is all correct. 🙂
