The New York State Catholic Conference was founded to translate Catholic teachings into action in the public policy arena. These teachings, which are centered on the innate dignity of every human person made in the image and likeness of God, form the basis of the Conference’s legislative agenda.
This agenda and supporting documentation is intended to illuminate the rich teachings of our faith as they relate to public policy, and to help Catholic citizens and public officials to understand and put into context our positions on a wide range of issues.

Voters Guide

Do you support or oppose taxpayer funding of abortion? (Catholic position=Oppose)
Do you support or oppose parental notification prior to abortions performed on minors? (Catholic position=Support)
These are the only questions the candidates were asked regarding abortion? Parental notification and funding are just a few narrow aspects. Is there another source that NY voters can use to find out how the candidates stand on the bigger abortion issues?

I haven’t a clue…so you don’t think this voters guide is sufficient…

and how do they stand on the law that makes contraceptive coverage mandatory if an employer offers health insurance. They eliminated the “conscience clause” under the guise of woman’s equal access to health care.

and no one has asked in any debate I watched - are you pro-life or pro-death? Why not?

or - in the State of NY there are many many Catholics. Where do you stand on what they refer to as the 5 non-negotiables?

Not if those were the only questions. I would like to know, for example, where a candidate stood on the partial birth abortion ban, if he/she would vote in any way to restrict or make illegal abortion-on-demand, if they would be in favor of legislation that hold abortion clinics strictly accountable for reporting statutory rape when a young girl comes in for an abortion, where they stand on mothers-right-to-know legislation, taking minors accross state lines for abortions, fetal pain act.

I could go on and on. Those two questions only cover young girls and who is expected to pay for abortions.

I have really been trying to do research on the candidates in my district. I have found some sites but they all suffer from the same thing as the voters guide. The candidates do not respond to surveys or questions. There is one guy running for in my district, I can not find a single iota of info on him.

I say, no info, no vote. The devil you know…

Interesting that they didnt ask them if they opposed abortion-just taxpayer funding for it. Doesnt appear to be much of a voters guide if what the Church says is the most imprtant issue to consider is brushed aside in such a manner

I think it is a guide based on the best choices from a dirty pool.
