I’m one of the ones who disagree with this construction, but leaving the Church over something like this is silly and foolish. Because of objectionable behavior of another person in the Church you would sever your relationship with God?The bishop should be able to retire to a comfortable living situation, especially if he is growing old, but a 7500 sq ft mansion is absurd for one person. It does make the Church look bad. Standing up for these kinds of extravagant displays only serve to hurt the Church, in my opinion. As another poster stated, it helps to call out this kind of behavior. ** This kind of stuff is one of the reasons I left the Church. I’d rather actually help the poor **than help some guy build a mansion. For the people defending him: Are you aware of exactly how big 7500 sq ft is for one human being? Think of how many people could be helped with that money.
And in your comment about helping the poor, most of the people who claim this type of reasoning never actually do donate their time, effort and money to helping the poor. They just say they would like to do so instead of supporting the Church. I’m not accusing you of this, I have no idea, but for the population of those who say similar things, they never actually do help the poor.
