Newly Released Emails Show Brett Kavanaugh May Have Perjured Himself at Least Four Times

This is true. For some reason, people are raising doubts about the honesty of Mr. Kavanaugh.
Is that like raising doubts about where Obama was born? Or a million other types of questions and issues one sees? If one sees an article saying it though this one did not say what was stated, assume it to be true?

It is not a matter of doubting me, but of doubting what is supposedly reported in the American news. I don’t know of any trial where Mr. Kavanaugh was found guilty of perjury. This is a question about the reliability of the American news reports. Is what Americans read always so unreliable? How can there be an effective representative democracy if voting decisions are based on false rumors?
So if it is in a news story assume it to be true? No, I don’t buy that and I don’t consider the Daily Beast the mainstream media.

I’ve seen an article stating Cory Booker could be investigated over the files he brought to the hearing. I think that was at least, a mainstream media piece.

Let not your hearts be troubled.

Kavanaugh will be seated…presently, he is the least of our worries.

The Presidency has long been irrelevant, and is only relevant today because we have such a dangerous one.

The good news is he will be gone in due time; whether tomorrow, following the midterms, or as a result of the 2020 election.

This gave me a laugh. No, you cannot trust the reliability of news reports. Some is true, some is mistaken, some is blatantly false, some is incomplete, some is completely left out. In my Air Force days I was involved in a number of operations that were nationally reported. Not one was reported accurately. Any political reporting is suspect, and always has been. Your best bet is to rotate among news sources and try to identify facts, then make your own interpretation.

Who has the time to sift through all of the various news sources. And even if you did and then make your own interpretation, you can be in error because of being misled by false rumors or false reports.

That’s exactly what the various news outlets are counting on, and many politicians too.
It’s hard to find real facts in this divisive political climate. It does take time to develop an educated opinion. Even photos, videos and voice recordings are suspect. It’s sad.

He will be re-elected in 2020. U-6 is down to almost 2000 levels. Consumer confidence is at a 17 year high. He withdrew the USA from TPP and renegotiating NAFTA balancing it for both countries. Ending regulations at a pace of 22 ended for every new to one. We are starting to see a job market in which companies have to pay more per hour and willing to train new hires. Almost 70% of Americans feel is is a good time to look for a BETTER job. Millions of new jobs have been created. He moved the US embassy to jerusalem. HIs dealing with North Korea have lead to 40+ MIA’s being returned and will lead to North Korea being a nuke free state. The current SC nominee will be on the SC making it a strong 5/4 court. Once the red tide hits in the midterms there will be at least one more SC nominee making it a 6/3 court and when he win relelection it will become a 7/2 court. That is just the start of MAGA.

Is this the standard for establishing the factual truth of something now? A guilty verdict at trial?
If there were a shred of truth to the accusation, don’t you think that the major news networks and the senators that oppose the judge would have said something about this?

Should be looked into, but it won’t be. Nobody in this administration cares about perjury.
The third element of a perjury offense is proof of specific intent , that is, that the defendant made the false statement with knowledge of its falsity, rather than as a result of confusion, mistake or faulty memory.

No, because every one of the cited e-mails could easily be interpreted in a way that means he DIDN’T lie.

“May have perjured himself” doesn’t mean “Did perjure himself”, especially when the e-mails aren’t at all clear that he did so. Except in the minds of people who hate him and want to get something on him. Furthermore, the Cory Booker e-mails would likely be inadmissible in a court of law as they were introduced against the rules.

Somehow, the OP has gone from “may have perjured” to “committed perjury” in their first post. Um, no.

He’s expected to be confirmed, as I expected, so this whole business is moot and a waste of time IMHO.

“The Daily Beast” is a known unreliable source.

If you want a reliable source then the good ol’ standbys are the New York Times and the Washington Post. The latter is particularly good when it’s a Washington DC story, because their readership includes thousands of people who work on The Hill and expect the reporting on same to be reasonably intelligent. Both of these papers skew liberal, but like I said when it’s a Washington story like a Supreme Court nomination, an impeachment etc, the Post is usually pretty close to neutral because it doesn’t want to lose its Republican readership in DC.

The political website “The Hill” is good for the same reason.

(There is a right-wing newspaper in DC, The Washington Times, but it’s never been very good and it’s owned by Sun Myung Moon.)

No doubt.

My post was in response to a poster who seemed to be saying that, absent a trial and conviction, one can’t even consider the possibility.

I see the headline as “May” in the OP. Now, we are talking about it being “Is” ?

I wonder what that reason could possibly be.

My take is that the Daily Beast needs someone to explain perjury to them, because they clearly have no clue what they’re talking about.
