If you are worried about my posts, please don’t apologize. I am working through this stuff with a therapist, so that is why it was on my mind. I noticed some posts here which I had some thoughts I wanted to discuss with those who were in the conversation. That is all.I am so sorry if my thread caused any hurt. I seriously wanted to use the article as a demonstration to engaged or newly married couples about how terrible divorce can be not only from an emotional standpoint but from a financial standpoint. Now that I’m seeing Valentine’s cards and advertisements galore (and dreading tax season), I wanted couples to really, really think and pray for a lasting sacramental marriage.
It was not my intent to bring up sad memories, although I am equally guilty of doing it on this thread.![]()
Yes, divorce is just awful and it has effects upon at least the third generation. My kids don’t understand why their grandparents don’t love each other any more and why they are willing to commit adultery with other people. They look at their father as the evidence of the love of their grandparents and it hurts them to see that love discarded. And for me, they don’t even know my family at all. They have met some of them a couple times, but do not have any relationship with them. They know I was rejected and turned out.
I appreciate the kindness of those here who have read and commented on my posts where I was lamenting some of this. It helps to know that my story is not typical and that it was not okay to be treated that way. Most relevant to the story you linked in the title post of your thread is that it was my stepparent who confiscated the keys and locked me out of the house at night and made me seek shelter in the home of my fiance’s family. He was supposed to be my dad. He adopted me after all, after poisoning my relationship with my biological father. But turns out the I was never seen as really his.
Gosh. I am a downer this week. Sorry.
