News Article--The ghastly effect of internet pornography on a boy

As sad as the article is, what ou need to feel stomach turning disgust are the some of the comments on the article.😦

Porn, is not going anywhere anytime soon!
 
hmm… the article is written by a mother who blames online pornography for changes in the personality of her 11 year old son. However, the changes seem rather extreme and she doesn’t explore the possibility of other factors, such as mental illness or simply rebellion against his mother’s rules (such as banning video games she considers to be violent.) Its far easier to blame pornography, and her son’s wicked friend from school, than to find a cause within her son or even in her own behavior…

Online pornography is a problem and access to minors is definitely an issue to be addressed. But I don’t think the Daily Mail article provides an accurate picture of the effects of pornography. As mdgspencer mentioned, it is written in a sensationalistic manner. It is also written by a person with an interest in finding a scapegoat for the troubling changes in her son’s personality…
 
Years ago, one of the dads on my son’s sports team was telling a group of several other parents about the problem of his 15-ish year old son watching porn, and their younger daughter seeing it. The problem was for them, not that the 15 year old was watching porn, but that when he was, the younger daughter was occasionally able to see it.

Their solution? They got internet access for the boy’s room in the basement, and provided a lock for his door.

I too think that pornography is a problem but I think it’s effects are going to be more subtle. What those effects will be I don’t know, I just have a bad feeling. As an adult online porn is difficult to stay away from. If I were 13 I honestly would never leave my house. :o

In this case I think the porn for this poor kid is more a symptom than a cause.
