—I just had this conversation yesterday,
Thanks Be to God that this Cathedral is being preserved and restored, it demonstrates HOPE
Thanks Be to God that the signs and symbols that draw us into a closer union with the will of Christ will be restored. It is with in the kneelers, the statues, the Sacredness of the Holy Space, that allows us to be fully opened, we stand in reverence and awe. We are reminded, we become centered to the Love of God in our hearts. We become reminded of that which the Kingdom of God and therefore are to transcend the despair of the outside world. It is in these symbols and signs that we are prepared, we become focused, that we are made ready to accept the Love through the Holy Eucharist that will soon be made available to us. We are able to turn inward to the love of the Lord and outward to one another. We are able to recognize Christ with in us and in the Body of Christ that surrounds us. After all “we are our brother’s keeper”. We must fall on our knees, together, it unites us in humility, we demonstrate equality with one another when we do that. When we kneel, we allow Christ to enter completely, we enter fully into the mystery. Yes, some could argue that we “stand” for Christ, of coarse we do. However, when we kneel before Christ, before one another, we become “small” so that Jesus may be Grand inside us. It is pushing our own ego, needs, and wants aside so that the Love of Christ may live through us.
I would like to personally show gratitude to Bishop Carlson and the good people of St Mary’s Cathedral, Fr. Bessert, Sandy Buza and all who volunteer at the outreach ministry housed there to support Life and families, and to the good people in the community who are committed to the life giving Grace of the Cathedral. This full and necessary restoration is the light of Christ.
Some newly built parishes do not posess (or in a visible way) these loving symbols of Christ, of Mary, the Crucifix, the Stations of the Cross, the Holy Spirit. When I enter, I first look for the Tabernacle, the Crucifix, the Statue of Mary. Our parishes must not be barren of these symbols and signs of God’s Love for us. They are gifts to enhance and demonstrate our Catholic Faith.
God Bless, Lisa
