In what ways has the music changed? Please explain.Say, what happened to the music program at the Cathedral. I have seen some different folks around lately. Have there been some personel changes?

I haven’t seen the music director around for a while. I wa wondering if he left the Cathedral. He is a very talented man. If he went to work elsewhere, I wonder where he landed. In what ways has the music changed? Please explain.
The former music director is in Wisconsin. His wife was transferred and the family moved. He is now music director at a large parish there.I haven’t seen the music director around for a while. The man you are referring too was KB. He has been gone for a couple of years. I was referring to the man who took his place. The former music director is in Wisconsin. His wife was transferred and the family moved. He is now music director at a large parish there.
If you are referring to Dr. S, the official word was that his responsibilities in Grand Rapids along with working in Saginaw were more than he was able to accomplish. He was very talented! The man you are referring too was KB. He has been gone for a couple of years. I was referring to the man who took his place.
I’m guessing this question concerns more current changes, and refers to JR who followed Dr. S, who replaced KB, but only as a liturgical music director and not chief liturgist for the Cathedral.Say, what happened to the music program at the Cathedral. I happened to Mass at St. Helen this morning. I haven’t been there is 20/25 years. The pews with kneelers are still intact, although no one used then during the Consecration. I’m not sure if it is defiance or maybe no one informed Father that the directive around kneeling was to begin a few weeks back. Many did kneel in prayer after receinving Communion. And, it was a guitar Mass this morning. The 70’s are alive and well in Saginaw.
I saw a post somewhere, that there are parishes out there that are using the upcoming new translation as an opportunity to introduce tranditional music and Latin back into their parishes. The logic, since all the current music settings for Mass are going to be outdated, lets take the opportunity to teach the parish some things that will never be outdated — the Angus Dei, Sanctus, Pater Noster, etc. ---- Do you think we will ever see this in Saginaw?St. Helens has St. Thomas’ choir director. He is a nice guy but I don’t think he believes in the traditional music. At St. Thomas he put us through quite a variety of music including the guitars, flutes, drums… then he started playing that christian rock music after communion which was way over the top. The choir director we have now is much better. We have more organ music which is good. Good luck St. Helens because your going to need it! If you don’t like it you need to complain to the bishop. It’s going to take time to undo what Bishop Ken did but eventually it will happen.
Oh, I wouldn’t hold your breath if I were you. Some priests probably won’t use the new translation. Last year, one priest put in the bulletin a rant against the new translation and implied he wouldn’t use it. He also skewered anyone desiring the use of Latin. I could go on, but I won’t-it’s been hashed to death.I saw a post somewhere, that there are parishes out there that are using the upcoming new translation as an opportunity to introduce tranditional music and Latin back into their parishes. Well, the ‘teaser ad’ there basically said there was an incident in the rectory and a deacon left the diocese, a priest resigned, and a former employee was threatening a lawsuit.Haven’t heard the allegations, don’t have sound on my work computer, but knowing that SNAP has been prowling around the diocese ever since Bishop Cistone took over, I wouldn’t be surprised if this wasn’t simply a case of a disgruntled former employee who got latched on to by a group with a much more involved agenda.
I noticed no other news organization picked up this story but TV 12. The more I think about this the more convinced I am that 12 is displaying anti-Catholic bigotry. This series of events is only news to TV 12 because they are hoping to sensationalize on anti-Catholic sentiment around the sexual abuse crisis.Haven’t heard the allegations, don’t have sound on my work computer, but knowing that SNAP has been prowling around the diocese ever since Bishop Cistone took over, I wouldn’t be surprised if this wasn’t simply a case of a disgruntled former employee who got latched on to by a group with a much more involved agenda.
