AMEN!

We’ve got to pray for our priests and our priests-to-be.

And especially pray for Bishop Carlson. As this and other threads have shown there are some in the diocese who have little regard or respect for him and seem to find it more productive to tear him down than to help him in his efforts to strengthen the diocese of Saginaw.
LOL…please…what anyone in this thread (including me) has said pales in comparison to the vitrol directed at the bishop who preceded him…last I checked no one claiming to be Catholic has taken an ad out in the paper calling bishop carlson a heretic.

frommi,

What would you have Bishop Carlson do? Let the diocese die for lack of priests? We are a Eucharistic Church. No priests = no Eucharist = no salvation.

All the “Lay Commisioned Ministers” in the world won’t change that.

I didn’t say that at all.

I didn’t say that at all.
Then what is your alternative to Bishop Carlson’s apparently successful solution? The modus operandi of the preceeding 24 years certainly was not working. If you disagree, then please let us know how many priestly vocations there were during that time (as has been previously requested).

And if you have a better idea then what is currently happening, please enlighten us.

And Frommi,

I am still waiting on a response from you.

How many of the seminarians you are questioning have you actually either spoken with or reviewed their qualifications?

You seem to have issues with them ( not the least of which is your accusation that they cannot find Sagniaw on a map)

So what experiences have you had with these seminarians that resulted in such a critique?

My issue is not necessairly with their intelligence or spirituality…my issue is with people with no or little tie to the local church community deciding to serve that community solely because of the particular bishop.

I didn’t like it when Ken Untener was the bishop and I don’t like it now.

If one is going to be such a superstar at ‘fostering vocations’…then they should be able to foster them in their own backyard first.

Dear Frommi,
Bishop Carlson has been enormously instrumental in reaching out to the young people in the diocese. The Right to Life Movement in DC last year, the Eucharist Congress Fire Ablaze, retreat weekend at the Fransican University, Steubenville, OH. just to name a few. He is calling the youth to examine their faith life, discern their vocation in life, a move toward a life of stewardship.
There are seminarians of all ages. These seminarians interacting and witnessing to the youth in this diocese is a movement of the Holy Spirit. Why are you questioning the good in that??. God is using these "preexisting"seminarians to reach others in their discernment for vocation. I REALLY can see the WISDOM in this approach by Bishop Carlson. A highly intelligent move, a willingness to being open to what is necessary.
Priests having 2-4 parishes to shepherd. What is our future?? We must act now. Thank God for our Seminarians.

Peace, Lisa

Frommi,

There are entire orders of priests that specialize in coming to communities that lack sufficent priests, they do this at the request of the local bishop.

I have several friends among the Irish Pallotines who spent decades in Peru and\or Africa. They had no tie to the local community either, but rather recognized a need in the Church and served where called to do so.

Do you disagree with this approach? Was their calling somehow defective since they had no direct ties to the community they went to serve in?

Why would they?

I don’t know either. I never saw the ad nor was even aware of its existence till now. Do you have a copy of it to show?

Nevertheless, a search on Untener at RCF’s website brings up some telling info. Do you disagree with RCF’s comments and analysis?

Oh good grief…a bunch of yahoos with a website and no real information…yes I disagree with it…there is nothing catholic or faithful about that group.

Specifically which of their claims are false?

I’ve already spent too much time on them and now regret even bringing them up…so you’ll have to bait someone else with that question.
Uh huh. As expected. No answers when pressed.

Back to topic though—has anyone heard anymore about renovations to the cathedral?

I answer questions…but the RCF really isn’t something worth wasting bandwidth on…my fault for bringing them up.

Not a total waste of bandwidth though. I had never heard of RCF before. Thanks for mentioning them. I’ve go their website bookmarked now. 😃

no… and speaking of news from Saginaw, Has there been any word from His Excellency on the Moto? Seems like many Bishops have made some comment by now, but I haven’t seen any reaction from Saginaw. The Cathedral sure isn’t set up to accomodate the extraordinary rite, but could be made suitable with a few tweaks.

Good question. I’d like to know too. :hmmm:

But do you think there would be enough people that would regularly attend TLM?

Did anyone see the article in the Saginaw News about how Bishop Untener was inducted into the Saginaw Hall of Fame?
