As the pastor was reading the long Gospel narrative of Christ’s suffering, a Sheridan County sheriff’s deputy fatally shot a man suspected of a violent crime just inside the doors of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Rushville, Nebraska in the U.S.

For the 100 to 150 people at the 10:30 a.m. MDT Mass, the event was traumatic. Many of the people took cover or ran out of the church.

The mass was never finished.

There is clearly more to the story, but at first blush, it appears that there was genuine concern for the parishioners, if not the priest. We can only pray that the poor soul was seeking forgiveness rather than an opportunity to cause further harm.

Since he died later, I wonder if he was anointed?

This could have been put into a news forum. But then according to the rules of that forum, the headline of the article would have to be used as the heading, which would have been unsuitable when it comes to what happened.

I like it where it now is too, because it acts as a comment in its own way on the Gospel of the passion then being read.

This story is very incomplete. It doesn’t say whether the guy had a gun. It doesn’t really say anything beyond that the cop shot a man at a church. It seems to imply that the cop just shot him without any warning. All the priest heard was a man falling? No one else heard anything? No one was threatened?

i agree we do not know much…The news story is very vague. I will ask God to receive the soul of Clarence

Eternal rest grant unto him O Lord and Perpetual Light shine upon him. May his soul and the souls of the faithfully departed, through the Mercy of God rest in peace. Amen
