Reading the various posts condemning or chastising the Holy Father for his supposed sins of ommission or commission gives me to wonder if people know the meaning of the mortal sin of calumny.

May the Lord strengthen His Vicar against his enemies.
May the Lord give the future Vicars the strength not to engage in behavior that harms the Church.

Lapey, you might see his role perfectly illustrated at Jerusalem. But Paul had other ideas at Antioch.

Gal 2:11 But when Cephas was come to Antioch, I withstood him to the face, because he was to be blamed.
Paul was simply pointing out the hypocrisy of Peter’s actions, i.e., he was not invalidating his role as leader.

Lapey, you are assuming that he’s ashamed to be a Catholic; I don’t think he is. I think he has a different point of view. I don’t think he’s embarassed; that’s a big assumption. To be outraged about the abuse scandal and not trust the higher-ups doesn’t make one ashamed, embarrassed or anti-Catholic.

Best of luck to you with your diaconate!! 👍
That’s not the point. You are most often talking against the Church and fellow Catholics, very often me. With all of the headlines of scandal, whether warrented or not, are you embarrassed that you are Catholic?

I am not. Am I embarrassed at what has taken place? Yes, even angry. But still proud to call myself Catholic. I know that His Church will be purified through this; I know His Spirit will guide Mother Church into the future. I will be one of His deacons working in communion with His church and therefore in communion with Him!

I did not assume, I merely asked the question then stated my personal feelings. I implied nothing and assumed nothing. To say otherwise is not acurate.

I too am ashamed of what has taken place, as I stated, at times angry that this is still an issue. As Bennedict XVI called it, “filth”, it should have been removed from the Church by now. With that said you will not hear me speak ill of our Holy Father.

I spoke against JP II when he pleaded publically for GWB to not go to war in Iraq, I’ll never be on the wrong side of the Holy Father again. I will also call out those who seem to take pleasure in talking down the Holy Father.

Indeed he was pointing out the hypocrisy of the action/inaction of an Apostle, in his case the Pope.

Thank you Gurney. Lapey, pretty much ditto what Gurney said. Gurney spoke for me about as well as I could have myself. Peace.

Thank you Tweetymom. Sometimes I think the cover ups are even worse if that is possible. I can not dare imagine the pain you suffered over the course of those 40 yrs from the evil perpetrated upon you. Someone posted they are sick of all of this. But my heart instead weeps when I think about such evil acts. God bless you Tweetymom for your courage. May His love always shine upon you. Peace. :hug1:
God Bless you dear brother in Christ. It really is a terrible thing to ever come to gripes with. I am thankful God Has brought me this far.

Not realy my brother, I didn’t asume anything I asked you a question in which you never answered. Neither of you bothered to comment on my responce to Gurney.

So please refer back to earlier posts.

 Lapey, Gurney said he didn’t think I was embarrassed and I answered for you to pretty much ditto from me what Gurney said as I had nothing more to add.

And I don’t know what you want me to comment on regarding your post to Gurney. You said you’re angry at times. I have nothing to say about that. You said you spoke against JP2 when he tried to keep Bush from taking us to war. You realize now the Bush war was a mistake. A lot of people think it was a mistake. Myself included. You’re going to call out those who take pleasure in calling out the Holy Father. But I don’t think anyone takes pleasure. The Apostle Paul called out Peter but I don’t think he took pleasure in doing so.

You began in an earlier post with how you weren’t even talking to me when I replied to something you had posted in reply to another poster. I apologized for responding and you then said that was not the point. But you’re the one who made it a point. So I don’t even know what you are arguing with me about unless you just like to argue. Because I’m not going to argue with you just for the sake of arguing. Have a wonderful night. Peace and God bless.

Yes I have and I believe all had a part.
Believe??? That sounds like you really have done your research!!! Your “ideas” about the Church are rooted in illogical prejudice perhaps through no fault of your own but to continue to sing your one note song while producing no factual information is not very enlightening except to show that your mind is totally closed to any rational discussion on this subject. I will pray for you, Tweety! Knowing you continue to follow the Catholics on this site means that somewhere in the back of your mind or in your heart there is still a yearning for the truth.

Matt,
After taking the time to reread our posts from yesterday I see where I jumped to conclusions in which were not correct. I apologize for my hasty comments and I look forward to discussions in the future.

Have a God day,
Gary

Thank you dear person, I have the truth and that is Jesus. I do believe that most of the higher ups did cover up. Sorry if thar offends you.

Ditto. I wonder how much digging this priest and his parishoners have done in researching this. I admit being somewhat shaken by what I perceived as mishandling these terrible things done to innocent children, until I decided to not just take the secular media’s word for it and do some digging of my own. Does this priest actually think the Vatican WANTED these sickos to be turned loose on more innocent victims? Because that’s what’s being implied.
Unless he simply is deliberately working the Magisterium of the Catholic Church? It IS a possibility. I’d rather prefer that he just uttered naive comments, believing what the medias would say without any questions about THEM.

Ahem! The same prayer should include everybody-- bishops, priests, deacons, Catholic lay people, God-respecting non-Catholics, every kind of people with a conscience… etc. Let us not not be like Pontius Pilate, washing our hands and pretending to be so holy, so innocent already… Even the judges will be judged some day, so let’s be careful here, O.K.?

Are you a Messianic Jew who loves God’s Church ?
I’m a Jew who thinks that it will be easier for Catholics to pursue their relationship with Christ when their Pope is not plagued by scandal.

That’s an odd response. Are we not to judge any sinner or comment on any crime or moral breech? is it not appropriate to question the actions of our religious leaders when they touch on subjects such as molestation?

That is precisely why satan keeps this in the media and in conversations. But somebody needs to let him know that even though this succesor of Peter is brought down, a new one will take his place. “the gates of hell shall not prevail.”👍

The medias now call it “cover-up”. Have they always? They now make it sound as though they deliberately meant the harm done by the guilty priests to spread around and around.Do you really think that’s what happened?
You may have the truth but your personal interpretation still can err because you judge on the looks of a situation rather than on the actual facts. Sometimes they can coincide but they often don’t, unfortunately. There have been numerous judicial errors in recent history as well as in ancient times…
