Newspapers republish Muhammad caricatures

Any word on if American papers are going to conutinue to not publish these cartoons or are they going to join their brothers in Europe with expressing their right of free press… Right now everyone is upset with the French,Spain.Itlay, France and Denmark but none of the violence is address to the Americans. Wonder if the American Media learned from the Prison Photos that just because you can publish something doesn’t mean you should or if they don’t want to take the blame if something happens because it’s not something that the government did wrong???

P.S I’ve seen them and honestly if I wasn’t told that the cartoon was of Muhammad I wouldn’t have know. I would have just figured it was a generic Muslim.

Muslims have the right to be upset. Do they have the right to riot or threaten people? No! If they don’t like what the papers publish they should not buy the paper and convience others to do the same. If they don’t want Danish goods in Palestine that is their right but they have no right to harm or threaten to harm Danes who are there.

We see clearly what happens when a freedom is exersized without a sense of responsibility. This exersize of freedom without responsibility has been going on for a long time and will continue unless there is a recognition the all freedoms have a responsibility associated to them. But then too many people think that freedom means freedom from responsibility. Both sides of this current issue will now make claims that they have a right to do whatever comes next. This will never go away just as the crusades will never go away. Just more fuel for the fire.
 
US sides with Muslims in cartoon dispute

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Washington on Friday condemned caricatures in European newspapers of the Prophet Mohammad, siding with Muslims who are outraged that the publications put press freedom over respect for religion.

By inserting itself into a dispute that has become a lightning rod for anti-European sentiment across the Muslim world, the United States could help its own battered image among Muslims.

“These cartoons are indeed offensive to the belief of Muslims,” State Department spokesman Kurtis Cooper said in answer to a question. “We all fully recognize and respect freedom of the press and expression but it must be coupled with press responsibility. Inciting religious or ethnic hatreds in this manner is not acceptable.”

“We call for tolerance and respect for all communities for their religious beliefs and practices,” he added.

Major U.S. publications have not republished the cartoons, which include depictions of Mohammad as a terrorist. That is in contrast to European media, which responded to the criticism against the original Danish newspaper that printed the caricatures by republishing the offensive images themselves.

I guess we want to save face Or kill two birds with one stone…Get on the good side of Muslims and at the same time get back at the Europeans?

I agree too and being respectful and all, but where it makes me wonder is why some Muslim groups are threatening terroristic methods to silence the publications that published the cartoons? I have yet to see them, don’t care to - to be honest, but I find it difficult to wrap my mind around the threats of kidnapping anyone of European looks that are in the Middle East, bomb threats and the newpaper publication offices, etc. They want to claim Islam is a religion of peace… I’m still confused as how this is supposed to make me feel better about their religion and it’s purpose?

Agreed, they have a right to be upset, and some of those posters on the protest line seem to turn a peaceful people into violent very quickly ???
Threatening to bomb newspaper offices and the like is unacceptable, if Catholic’s rioted every time someone said something about the Catholic Church, we’d never be done rioting.

Boycotting others goods works both ways.
