Newt Gingrich to enter Catholic Church

Interesting story. Hope he is renewed by his conversion to follow Christ in all ways. Welcome home Mr.Gingrich.👍

Gingrich is on his third marriage. I have heard his third wife referred to as a trophy wife. I asume she is much younger. Does anyone know if this is her first marriage?

A dubious conversion all in all. Given Gingrich’s strong pro-death penalty position, anti-Palestinaian, pro-Iraq invasion positions to name a few.

Sorry, but I don’t see this man submitting in humility to any Magesterium. A dissenter on the right to be sure - a la Hannity - but a dissenter nonetheless.

I thought Newt gave his first wife divorce papers when she was in the hospital?

I guess if he converts he can claim the ‘Pauline privilege’.

The thing is, he’s not in political office. Is he making public statements about this? If not, I’ll leave it alone.

Perhaps we should submit all the names of converts to Rien for his/her approval from here on out? Rien can decide if they are worthy or legitimate.

Perhaps ol’ Newt can make up for his siding with the conservative evangelicals who blocked any priest from being chaplain of the House of Representatives. The first Catholic named to that post was under Denny Hastert, not Gingrich.

Are you judging the Churches decision that Mr Gingrich is a suitable candidate? As someone that has sponsored another to enter into Holy Mother Church I can assure you the vetting process is quite thorough. We have someone now that will have to wait another year till entrance into the Church because of unsettled issues.

The death penalty is not an issue. His former non-catholic marriage(s) were looked into and found to be non-sacramental prior to his marriage to his Catholic wife. This is between him and the Church, not him and your judgment.

I also find the words “trophy wife” insulting. But, them I admit this is my personal opinion only.
 
Lots of people do things that are anti-Catholic before they convert. I went on missions trips to Mexico. I told kids how great the reformers were. I prayed people would leave the church. I also did many other things that were sinful. Well guess what… I went to confesson and Holy Communion and am still working on heavan.

Maybe what this man needs is the Church and her Holy Mysteries to live a holy life? ST Mary of Egypt slept around. St Augustine did the same thing. St Paul killed Christians. Need I go on?

The Lord came to save sinners of who I am first. Let’s remember that!
