I have no idea how I didn’t know that I would conceive on that day! Looking back on my charts it was perfectly clear. I think I got a little lazy because my cycle hadn’t changed in so long and I took it for granted that the same days had been fertile days for a long time…

How many children do you have?
Just one so far.

Congratulations on your upcoming marriage!

How long have you used NFP?
off and on over our 10 years of marriage to space children.

We used Sympto-Thermal up until after this last baby. We are giving the marquette model a try now and really really like it.

Unexpected perhaps, but never unwanted! 🙂

How long have you used NFP?
We’ve been using it for 10 years.

Which method do you use?
Sympto-Thermal

Have you ever had an unexpected pregnancy?
That would depend on one’s interpretation of “unexpected”. We did get pregnant 3 months after DD was born (miscarried this pregnancy), which happened because we weren’t following the rules properly. When we conceived our last child, we were TTA, but I wasn’t charting my mucus signs and I should have waited for 5 days of temps instead of three. At the time, we weren’t sure if we should TTA or try for another, but I’m glad that God decided for us:).

If you had an unexpected pregnancy, were you using NFP perfectly at the time you conceived?
No

How many children do you have?
Three

Never had an unexpected pregnancy as I’ve never tried to prevent. Ready for pregnancy when it comes. Last baby I had a warning from God that I would conceive. I had one miscarriage and one baby. I use prayer based NFP.

Have charted for 1.5 years, only have actively “used” method (while sexually active) for one year.

Which method do you use?
Creighton

Have you ever had an unexpected pregnancy?
No

**How many children do you have?
**
None.

How long have you used NFP? 7.5 years.

Which method do you use? Sympto-Thermal, but I tend to use Marquette terms for mucous as I like them better.

Have you ever had an unexpected pregnancy? Nope. (Unless you count the fact that by all “medical terms,” I was considered infertile.) Unexpected by the medical community, not by anyone who knows how to chart. LOVE charting!!!

If you had an unexpected pregnancy, were you using your NFP method perfectly at the time you conceived? YUP!! Thank God!!

How many children do you have? 2

Extra info that might be helpful: I am considered a “poster child” of NFP. Cycle lengths all over the board, bad health helped by charting, hubby was formerly invalidly married in a contraceptive relationship- you couldn’t pay him a million dollars to go back to contraception. I’m terribly jealous of those with perfect health who don’t have to chart and are called to big families. Am always trying to accept the fact that I am called to a small family. I think the Church is so much more supportive of women than any other. The Church has supported me learning all about the workings of my own body, secular society wanted to keep me ignorant. “Fertility is not a disease. I do not need a pill.”

stepping off soapbox and walking away quietly.

Blessings in your future marriage Anniegirl!!!

Have you ever had an unexpected pregnancy? No

If you had an unexpected pregnancy, were you using your NFP method perfectly at the time you conceived? I don’t think you can really consider this an unexpected pregnancy, but one of my children was conceived when DH and I decided in the heat of the moment to go ahead and make love during a fertile time even though we weren’t really planning to have another baby at that point.

My experience with NFP is considerably different. I do not intend to discourage you from using NFP, only to encourage you to keep trying if you have a rough time.

How long have you used NFP? 17 years

Which method do you use? Billings, Sypto-Thermal (STM), and Creighton. Currently, STM.

Have you ever had an unexpected pregnancy? Yes, 2

Were you using your NFP method correctly? Yes. The days had been identified by my instructor as infertile.

How many children do you have? 9

I have a constant fertile type mucus and irregular temperatures which make interpretation of the chart very difficult. I have tried various methods over the years. I even worked with an NFP only doctor for a year, but he was unable to help me. There have been extended periods of abstainance, and some “I give up” babies. The last two were truly unexpected. I wish I had been told that NFP can be very tough.

God Bless! 🙂

How long have you used NFP? Less than a year (No longer)

Which method do you use? Billings Ovulation

Have you ever had an unexpected pregnancy? Yes, one

If you had an unexpected pregnancy, were you using your NFP method perfectly at the time you conceived?

I’m not sure yet, we have to go over the chart with the woman who taught us. We had trouble getting good readings, possibly to my wife having gone off birth control before hand. We thought were doing it right, just “pushing the envelope” so to speak, but now that we look back at it, we kind of see where we went wrong.

How many children do you have? One on the way

We plan on using the Sympto Thermal method in the future. But, to me, the best form of birth control is pregnancy!

I had that too, and because it is irregular, that means it was a symptom of a problem. For me, it was a cervical eversion. I first learned the difference in the irregularities so I know how to be very thoroughly obeservant of points of change, then I had a procedure done that drastically reduced the confusing symptoms. (the procedure was only mild discomfort) This was all done with teh Creighton method because there is actual observation categories for the irregularities.

How long have you used NFP?

Over 6 years.

Which method do you use?

Sympto-thermal

Have you ever had an unexpected pregnancy?

Yes, my first miscarriage

If you had an unexpected pregnancy, were you using your NFP method perfectly at the time you conceived?

No; I was very sloppily charting.

How many children do you have?

Two on earth, two in heaven, and one on the way. 🙂

Same story here except the experts all concluded “there is no doctor and no test that can tell you with any accuracy whatsoever whether you are fertile or infertile at any given time. Your body is extremely strange, it’s like you are continuously and permanently in a state that is by all known indications exactly halfway between fertile and infertile. On top of that, some years ago the experts would have told you that unless you had surgery to correct your particular physiology, conception would have been entirely impossible… however, you and some other women have proven that isn’t necessarily true.”

13 years, Billings, Sympto Thermal, a host of befuddled experts, and 5 beautiful children later, husband got a vasectomy when they said having another would kill me because I had severely hemorrhaged having the last one entirely face up because she wouldn’t turn and was too fast and far along for a cesarean. I’m a grandmother now.

How long have you used NFP? for about 10 months

Which method do you use?** billings method

Have you ever had an unexpected pregnancy? yes

LOL I say this all the time! Thank goodness you can’t put any MORE babies in there. Pregnancy is a great free time to enjoy each other as long as the mama-to-be is feeling well.

this poll has me so dissappointed 😦
Is there anyone who used Billings and did not get an unexpected pregnancy???

I have a constant fertile type mucus as am in pp without cycles
But i added cp checks for my own sanity
