The Purpose of this survey is to test the reliability of **Natural Family Planning for the intentions of PREVENTING pregnancy to test whether it **is or **is not a trustworthy method of preventing unwanted pregnancy, but still practice sexual intercourse in the ABSENSE **of artificial contraception and/or pulling out before ejaculation.

I am a young Christian who has recently become engaged and who wishes to enjoy the sensual blessings of marriage **WITH OUT **jeapordizing the livelihood of our relationship due to an unwanted pregnancy that we can neither support or afford, so honesty in the survey is apreciated. Political or religious agendas or biases are not worth the livelihood of our relationship. Thank you. 🙂

God would not allow you to have more children then you can support or afford so i dont see the point in using nfp for that reason. Just because you wont have enough money to spend on materialistic things isnt a good reason to use nfp. God would not allow you to concieve children that he knew would cause serious problems that you could not get through.

You know you’re right. God wouldn’t allow me to have more children than I can support or afford. That’s why He’s blessed us with being created in His likeness, to having the capability of understanding that my actions have consequences. I have the reasonability to understand that now is NOT the best time to have children. Should I put God to the test? I think not. I can’t expect Him to rescue from every mountain I cast myself off of. This is in MY control, and God expects me to have enough reasonability to do the right thing. I’m not worried about materialistic things, I litterally cannot support a child right now. Child protective services would snatch them right up.

God helps those that help themselves; believing that “God will provide” is not a rationale for avoiding responsibility for your own actions or ignoring the consequences of those actions.

what responsibility did i say to avoid?

Yeah whenever I see people making the God will provide argument or God will never let you have any more then you can handle or whatever. I always laugh. I mean I have yet to see any proof other then speculation of this. But as it relates to this thread what it comes down to is if you sex you might get pregnant. And I have yet to see any evidence that suggest that God will personally stop you get from getting pregnant if for some reason you just can;t handle another kid.

I did not say avoid any responsibilty. If you think you honestly can not support a kid then abstain. Otherwise if you choose not to abstain know that God is not going to allow you more then you can handle and if you have a kid God will make sure they you are able to care for it, yeah it mite not be easy, it mite be tough, you might have to spend less money on yourself.

Anyway the whole point of NFP being allowed is because it is still open to life. This person it seems is setting up this poll to see how reliable NFP is at preventing life. It seems to me but i may be wrong is that this person is wanting to use NFP because they are not open to life. It looks like they want to make sure that they is a strong chance that they wont concieve first before using it. But i dont know so again i may be wrong

Just wanted to point out that God helps those who helps themselves is not in the BIBLE anywhere.

You may discern that from your reading, but I personally believe God helps those who love and follow His word, the Church and what it teaches. 🙂

okay sorry
It’s quite alright. Thank you for contributing. 🙂

Thank you two for contributing to the thread as well. 🙂 However, the point is already made. Let’s not make mountains out of pebble-like objects or however that saying goes…

-_-

Interesting. I do apreciate that aspect of NFP. However, I believe it was the Apostle Paul who wrote “Do not deprive each other accept with consent… and come together for a set time, lest you burn with passion.” I’m too lazy to go Bible surfing tonight, but you get my point. -.- I wish to use NFP as a means of not violating God’s “natural order.” Clearly if you are unable to concieve for a set time in the menstural cycle He created, then sex doesn’t ALWAYS need to result in life, or the possibility therein…

Btw I do LOVE the practice of abstinence. It is apart of NFP, after all, and is very righteous. However, exclusion from sex with the acception of child-bearing is a bit extreme. Sex isn’t only a biochemical reproduction machine it is also an expression and manifestation of intimate love.

I take it you have never heard of the Duggar family who have 19 children? I personally cannot imagine having 19 children, but it works for them and their family. And, of course, they don’t practice NFP but welcome as many children as God gifts them.

Welcome to The Duggar Family Website!

Our prayer is that all who view this site will realize that we are ordinary people with our individual weaknesses and imperfections but we serve an extraordinary GOD who delights in demonstrating His great power!

“And He said unto me, my grace is sufficient for thee for my strength is made perfect in weakness, most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities that the power of Christ may rest upon me.” (2 Corinthians 12:9)

We trust that you will find strength and encouragement from HIM who is "able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask…”

I am sure God has provided from them spirtually well probably at least. I am talking in more physical terms though. The Duggars have provided for themselves at least in physical terms like money and food and so on.

God provides for all our needs, though I do agree that the Duggars have worked along with Him to meet their needs.

I’m pretty sure it says, “If a man does not work he shall not eat.” Of course, God is gracious and provides us blessings if we are in need, but not due to our own neglect of wisdom and discernment. 😦 The Church DOES teach NFP is acceptible, that women need not be baby-making machines, and GOD Himself created a natural cycle in which women are infertile at times but capable of sex therein…

I answered “I practice NFP, and it does work!,” but I would add these important caveats:
  • You and your wife should learn a proven method of NFP (e.g., the Billings Ovulation Method, the Creighton Model, or the Sympto-Thermal Method) from an experienced teacher.
  • You and your wife should practice the method, and make sure that you understand it, and ask questions until you do fully understand it and feel comfortable with it.
  • You and your wife should continue to ask questions whenever an unusual situation comes up with your charting.
  • Your wife must check her symptoms (e.g., mucus or temperature) as instructed, according to the method, and one of you must chart these symptoms, every day, without fail. You must follow the method as directed, and not have relations on a day that you are supposed to abstain.
If you follow these recommendations, then I suspect that NFP will probably work for you. However, no method, other than complete abstinence, is 100% effective at preventing pregnancy, and that includes contraception and even sterilization. But one nice thing about NFP is that you can tailor the method to increase or decrease the chance of pregnancy, by widening or narrowing the period of abstinence around the fertile days.

Having said all that, I would encourage you and your wife to continually discern God’s will, and to have an attitude of openness to life. Having a baby is not always as financially demanding as people think that it is, especially if you have health insurance that covers the delivery.

Posting to confirm everything you said.

In spite of my signature ticker, I did vote “I practice and it DOES work”.

When we practice it properly, it works. When we get lazy, I get pregnant. It’s not the method that’s was the problem. It was our inability to check and chart symptoms every day…and not just the days we feel like having relations.

That does not sound romantic in the slightest bit. -_- Anyone here have sex on their honeymoon?

I don’t really see anything anti-romantic about checking and charting mucus and/or temperature symptoms on a daily basis. No one is asking you to check these symptoms immediately before or during marital relations. 🙂

Regarding the honeymoon: There is a pretty good chance that the honeymoon will fall during an infertile period, and so abstinence would not be necessary. However, if the honeymoon happens to fall during the fertile time, then you have a potentially tough choice to make – either postpone relations, or be open to conception.

This is just my opinion, and I don’t know your situation (i.e., you may have a very serious and legitimate reason to postpone conception), but in general I don’t see anything terrible about conceiving during the honeymoon.

I was really just joking about the honeymoon thing. It’s just, DANG. Looks like sex is going to require alot of homework. -- Is my wife going to appreciate playing doctor every day? --

See, this comment shows that you really don’t get what its all about. I’ve been charting for 9 years for my health-- I’m single. It has been an absolutely amazing experience learning about how my body works, and the charting has helped my docs diagnose different problems that I never would have found had I not been. I personally believe ALL women should chart—its basic health. The time it takes is miniscule, everytime one visits the restroom. seconds. a fraction of the time of brushing the teeth or washing face, or showering. Its basic hygiene. and its habitual I don’t even have to think about it.
