I’m in the very early days of pregnancy with baby #2, and we don’t like to find out the gender of our baby’s until they are born. However, we highly dislike calling baby ‘baby, it, he/she’ etc so last time we called our baby ‘monkey’ until he arrived (and my goodness it was perfect for him 🙂 )

We are looking for suggestions for nicknames to help us connect with this little one, and help would be extremely appreciated!

I like “pumpkin”
Congratulations on the upcoming birth of your child!~
Mary.

Just out of curiosity, what is so disagreeable about the correct naming of ‘baby’? You 'highly dislike" it? I wonder about that…🤷

Bob

When we were expecting our first, the pastor one day after Mass, called my husband ‘Bob’ by mistake.

We thought it was funny and called the baby Bob. (not knowing I was carrying a girl)

I don’t like referring to unborn babies as ‘it’. Even when people say, “It’s a girl.” I try to say, “She’s a girl,” or “the baby is a girl”.

‘It’ sounds less than human to me.

Our last name is Nelson, so we’ve loving referred to our children as ‘Half Nelson’ and ‘Half Nelson the Second’.

But I also referred to each of them while in the womb as ‘Little One’.

We called ours “Sweet Pea.”

We still do sometimes. And he is an adult. 😛

My sister called hers, “my little parasite.” (Yes, I know the baby isn’t a parasite. Yes, I know the name can have negative connotations. But she said it with all the love in the world, for all 4 of her children. )

I’d go with Number 2
How about Secundus?

I’ve been in the habit of calling our current pregnancy’s baby Septimus. 😃 My wife just rolls her eyes now that I’ve started calling all the others Primus through Quintus (our dear Sextus pass away before birth :signofcross:).

Nick names we’ve used in the past:
  • Bean
  • Bear
  • Ragnar (long story)
  • Trouble (had spotting through the first 15 weeks - he still is trouble to this day ;))
  • Wiggle Worm
  • Punkin

Mine was Peanut. It was the first thing I thought of when I saw the first ultrasound photo.

We do a play on our last name with our babies as well. 🙂

I also do the typical baby cutesy-names…sweetie-pie, pumpkin, honey…they stick around after they’re born, too. 😃

My daughter called #1 Flipper (lost in miscarriage) and #2 was Beanie (for jelly bean).

Because it always ended up being “the baby”, and seems so impersonal. I just can’t feel affectionate saying it.

Great suggestions, thank you everyone! A couple have really stood out to me!

Before I was pregnant with our first child, we would talk about having a baby and referred to them as “The Theoretical Baby”. When I got pregnant we called him “Theo” for the whole pregnancy.

With #2 now I started calling her Quidgebo or Quidge. It’s a made-up word I came up with.
