The yearly religious procession began around 7:30 a.m. last Wednesday from the Quirino Grandstand after the Holy Mass celebrated by Manila Archbishop Antonio Cardinal Tagle.

The carriage of the Black Nazarene was then paraded to streets around Manila City by an estimated 500,000 devotees who were barefoot as sign of their devotion.

Authorities said that around 9 million people converged at Quiapo Church and joined the feast of the Black Nazarene.

After the Mass, the mammoth crowd, many of them waiving white towels and handkerchiefs and shouting “Viva Señor Nazareno,” forced their way in to get a close view of the black icon, so named for its color after it figured in a fire that broke out in a galleon from Mexico.

That is amazing. The sight in the photograph is amazing. I’ve never seen or been in anything close to that. Nine million people? Wow.
 
OT; the celebrations and feast day for the Holy Child or Santo Niño is ongoing. In the places like Tondo, Manila; Cebu Province; Iloilo; Aklan and Antique. Viva Señor Santo Niño! Pit Señor!
