Well, looks like I won’t be getting a Nintendo Classic. They’ve stopped making them completely and the people who have bought them up to scalp them want around $500 for them on eBay which is of course a ripoff.

This leads me to aiming for a Nintendo Switch this year. Does anyone have one? How do you like it? They’re still sold out here in my city

I absolutely love my Switch. Breath of the Wild is one of the best games I played in my life and I can’t wait for Splatoon 2, Xenoblade Chronicles 2, and Super Mario Odyssey.

My daughter and I are loving ours. The portability is amazing and the joy-con pairs turning into two separate controllers is fantastic.

But we skipped the Wii U so things like Mario Kart 8 and the upcoming Splatoon are all very shiny new experiences.

My only reservation is whether games are developed more with a console or handheld mindset. If games are primarily made under the assumption that there is one console per household that’s good. But if they are made under the assumption that more than one person in the family will have their own handheld…that makes me nervous. The Switch is a decently priced console but a very expensive handheld.

My daughter and I play Pokemon together on our handhelds and if the rumored Stars comes out on Switch, it’s going to cause some problems.

I’ve bought every Nintendo home console since the original NES, but I’ve never had a handheld console. So, for me, the new experience will be playing Zelda in my backyard. 😛

I do wonder about that, though. I hope they don’t expect me to buy more than one. Sure, if I had vast amounts of disposable income, I would love to buy enough Switches so that I could play local 4 vs. 4 Splatoon matches with my family and my brother’s family. But I don’t see that happening. 😛

It is expensive for a handheld, but then you could buy 2 or 3 Switches for the price of one iPhone.

I’m still waiting to get one. I bought Zelda already, but don’t have the console to play it on. :o I’ll have to wait until GameStop gets some in stock that they do NOT bundle with a whole bunch of other stuff I do not need.

I hope to get one at least by the time Splatoon 2 comes out. I’ve played the first one more than all my other Wii U games combined. :o I’ll be very sad once they (inevitably) pull the plug on the online component of that game.

Since NES, the only two systems I’ve never owned were Gamecube and WII U. I was surprised at Gamestop the other day that WII U was still full price.

I’m wanting a Switch, but they need some more games out there in the coming months. I enjoy some Zelda, but it can get complicated sometimes. Mario Kart is always fun, and Mario Odyssey looks great, I’m a huge fan of Mario Galaxy though. Never played Splatoon, what is it like.

I do a bit of handheld and console play. But I also enjoy the old school NES and SNES games. I understand the virtual library will be up sometime this year and I can’t wait. Only if they’d hurry up and release a new Star Fox for Switch 😃

It is kind of odd. Every system gets a price drop eventually. The Wii U got a $50 price drop once, but then that was it. Part of me wonders if they aren’t—at this point—pretty much encouraging people not to buy a Wii U because they want people to buy the Switch instead. They’ve already stopped manufacturing the Wii U which usually doesn’t happen that fast after a new console launches.

Splatoon is like a kid-friendly, Nintendo twist on the shooter genre. There is a one-player mode, but the core game is the online multiplayer, which are 4 on 4 matches. Each person is equipped with various paint-spewing weapons from regular “super soaker” type guns to rollers and paint buckets. There are several modes. In “Turf War”, the object is to cover more ground in your own team’s paint color than the other team within the 3 minute time period. There are various ranked battle modes with different objectives as well. In each mode, the object isn’t to wrack up kills (or “splats”), it’s to fulfill the objective (covering the ground, controlling a certain area, riding a tower towards the enemy base, etc.). Splatting the enemy sends them back to their spawn point, so it assists you in your objective, but is only secondary.

I have a lot of fun with it. Something about rolling over people with a giant roller… 😛 :o 😃 I like the map designs (mostly), too. Each one is laid out symmetrically and includes lots of different paths to take. I like to take the paths less travelled to surprise people. 🙂

I’ll have to give Splatoon a look when I can get ahold of a Switch. But I’m anticipating that won’t be very soon because in my city they’re sold out everywhere! 😦

I hope we get a good mario party out of this. The 1v4 bowser mode from the wiiu was kind of a good idea but the execution left something to be desired. As it stands, me and my friends play the n64 ones.

On one hand I’m pretty salty about the Classic being cancelled. On the other hand, I’ve already paid Nintendo for most of those games in the past and I feel silly paying for them again.

Right. I hear Nintendo upped their production numbers in light of its initial sales, but that will probably still take time for the systems to filter into the stores. I’m hoping that some time over the summer they will be more readily available.

It does seem odd to me that they pulled the plug on the Classic so soon while there is still so much demand for it. The best I can figure is that they are concerned about competing with themselves with the Switch’s virtual console once that gets up and running. 🤷

Maybe they’ll re-release it along with a “Super Nintendo Classic” at Christmas time. 😛
