It is kind of odd. Every system gets a price drop eventually. The Wii U got a $50 price drop once, but then that was it. Part of me wonders if they aren’t—at this point—pretty much encouraging people
not to buy a Wii U because they want people to buy the Switch instead. They’ve already stopped manufacturing the Wii U which usually doesn’t happen that fast after a new console launches.
Splatoon is like a kid-friendly, Nintendo twist on the shooter genre. There is a one-player mode, but the core game is the online multiplayer, which are 4 on 4 matches. Each person is equipped with various paint-spewing weapons from regular “super soaker” type guns to rollers and paint buckets. There are several modes. In “Turf War”, the object is to cover more ground in your own team’s paint color than the other team within the 3 minute time period. There are various ranked battle modes with different objectives as well. In each mode, the object isn’t to wrack up kills (or “splats”), it’s to fulfill the objective (covering the ground, controlling a certain area, riding a tower towards the enemy base, etc.). Splatting the enemy sends them back to their spawn point, so it assists you in your objective, but is only secondary.
I have a lot of fun with it. Something about rolling over people with a giant roller…

I like the map designs (mostly), too. Each one is laid out symmetrically and includes lots of different paths to take. I like to take the paths less travelled to surprise people.
