Sounds a lot like my upbringing. Grew up in a large family, we hunted or fished for our meals, and were very happy. We lived in a trailer too. Wouldn’t have changed a thing.

We lived on the river. I miss watching the sunset or seeing it rise over the water…or seeing the lightning strike it during a summer storm. (We were safely inside, just so you know! 😍)

There were definitely perks to living in the middle of nowhere.

I just want some kind of church service for my son who is 8 so he doesn’t lose all that he gained from religious education it’s not like they have have religious education online( at least not that I can tell) I don’t want to go because of an obligation I go to mass because I enjoy learning about Christ. I also don’t want to miss Easter services etc. but from what you all are saying it’s better for us to sit at home and have no church type services at all then go to a Protestant Church is that correct?
I would suggest to try this youtube channel…started by a catholic…for kids…

and this one…

I would suggest homeschooling for religion…and request the catholic parish if someone can drive to your home and bring you communion…just thoughts…

Chickens are so cool. My husband wants chickens.

Problem is, I bet our dog does too. 🙂

Is there a Protestant Church that is comparable to Catholism? We recently moved and there are no Catholic Churches nearby.
How far is the nearest Catholic Parish? I mean, how far would you have to travel to “nearest” Parish?

Quick summary to bring you up to speed…she’s an hour and half away from the nearest Catholic anything (parish, church, chapel, oratory). She’s in rural North Carolina and does not have access to a reliable vehicle.
Yikes. That’s tough. Will pray for her. She can always try to watch Mass Online, make amends to get to Mass when/if she can, and maybe a small shrine in her home. With Jesus and Our Lady. At least celebrating the Liturgy. That’s real tough, though. Not easy in a circumstance like that. Wonder though, is there a nearby Catholic University or college with maybe a Newman Center?

If it’s not too personal to ask. What city does she live in?

Just PM’d you to give you the Cliffs Notes version. 🙂

Swan Quarter, NC…closest parish is in “little” Washington, NC, about 1-1.5 hours away. (We call it little Washington…it’s actually older than the capital, and was called Washington first. 🙂 )

It’s not so much the KKK as we have many members they just necessarily call themselves that anymore they mostly call themselves the knights. I remember when I first saw the Knights of Columbus 🤦‍♀️ As a Protestant I was taught Catholics where bad, they were going to hell because they worshiped Mary, saints and the Pope. That they made up books of the Bible, and they believed you or your family could buy your way to heaven It was more racism than anything. I remember when I first talked with my husband and his family before we got married about Catholicism. After attending my first Mass I felt something I had never felt in any of the Protestant Churches I’d attended and I had been to several denominations trying to find a home. It was the best feeling ever. I learned so much during RCIA. Catholics are actually more accepting than some Protestant religions. I went to one church one time where they literally stoned a boy who came out as gay. I’ve seen people speak in tongues, women never allowed to cut their hair or wear pants. I’ve also been to some churches and have met some people especially after our house fire that we’re wonderful. The nicest families included a Free Will Baptist Preacher who was very nice and invited us to thanksgiving dinner with his family and had several catholic friends and respected our beliefs. I just want to feel that feel if being close to God. I just feel that watch a TV. I understand I can watch the Mass on TV and that the Priest would release me from my obligations. That’s not the point or the reason I asked my question in the first place. There are basically just a few types of Churches near me missionary Baptist, Free Will Baptist, AME, several different fundamentals, and southern baptist. What I was wondering since I was fairly certain the before mentioned we not even close to a good idea we do have a Methodist Church and a Interdenominational church which is listed as an form of orthodox Christianity

Our problem right now is my car broke down and we only have the one car and if that one goes we are in really really big trouble and my husband wants to drive the car as little as possible until we can replace mine. I guess what I’m asking is would it be ok to go to a local Protestant Church that I can get a ride to until I can get my car replaced or should I just teach my child st home which I already do and I have never relied totally on the church to do there are just some questions I can’t fully answer. I have tought second grade religion education for three years helping children prepare for their first Eucharist and Reconciliation.
There’s no easy solutions for the current situation that your in, but this is what I would recommend that you and your husband do:

First, decide which one the nearest Catholic Churches to your home you want to become a member. I understand nearest ones are still about 90 minutes away by car. Still, you and your husband should choose a Catholic parish to join. Then contact that parish by phone (or email) and explain to them your situation and predicament. Try to set up a phone meeting with the pastor of that parish to personally discuss your family situation with him. He’ll most likely be the one who can give you the best advice on how to proceed.

Contacting one of the closest Catholic churches to your home and asking them for help in this matter is really the best way to proceed, IMHO.

AME are methodists, that’s what the “M” stands for.

That’s like saying liberal Episcopals and High Church Anglicans are from the same church. On a very base level, they are, but after that the similarites fade quickly.

African Methodist Episcopalian.

They are very different from the Methodists/United Methodists.

So…let me see if I have this right:
This thread is about a young man who wants to go to church but can’t because the KKK threw a rod into his Camry and fled to Spain with some High Church Anglican friends?

Methinks you people have been hitting the Manischewitz already… 🤣😂😜

Huh? At this point I feel sorry for the OP who just came here for advice.

I’d say it is worth calling the nearest parish office, simply ask the secretary “Do you have any parishioners who live in XYZ town? Would you mind giving them my phone number, I would like to see about a ride to Mass.” The worst she can do is say NO.

I don’t understand really how what I believed was such a simple question turned into this. Some of you where very nice and understanding and I appreciate that very much. Others I cannot believe you would ever speak to someone the way you spoke to me. After reading a few people’s posts I actually cried. It would be a lot simpler to just not go and turn into thousands of other fake religious people. After thinking for awhile some people’s responses made me think of one of my favorite Bible stories.
And Jesus answering, said: A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among robbers, who also stripped him, and having wounded him went away, leaving him half dead. And it chanced, that a certain priest went down the same way: and seeing him, passed by. In like manner also a Levite, when he was near the place and saw him, passed by. But a certain Samaritan being on his journey, came near him; and seeing him, was moved with compassion. And going up to him, bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine: and setting him upon his own beast, brought him to an inn, and took care of him. And the next day he took out two pence, and gave to the host, and said:Take care of him; and whatsoever thou shalt spend over and above, I, at my return, will repay thee. Which of these three, in thy opinion, was neighbour to him that fell among the robbers? But he said: He that shewed mercy to him. And Jesus said to him: Go, and do thou in like manner
You have to ask yourself which one where you? When someone asked you for help how did you respond? I’m sorry if this sounds harsh. I’m starting to think now I should convert back to a form of Protestant and go to every church I can get to until I feel Gods presence. I remember when I first started RCIA discussed why people left the church and why the Catholic Church had such a hard time recruiting people. It’s because of these kinds of attitudes. I mean really; go buy another car ( sorry I’m not as rich as you) move closer to a Catholic Church ( who just moves and who had that kind of money to just pack up and do that) buy another engine for your car (I paid 1500.00 for the car, a used engine/shipping would have been around 3,000 and that didn’t include someone putting it in) is there a Catholic university nearby ( if there was a Catholic university there would be a Catholic Church) take a ferry, Uber, lyft.( We do have a ferry to the island and there is a Mass in the island it’s Friday’s at 4pm and the ferry ride is 2 hours and 45 minutes and is only seasonal. We don’t have Uber etc. and if we did I couldn’t afford to take one can you imagine the fare for an hour and 20 minute trip two ways?) I really wish people donated cars or helped people out but in these countries in North Carolina all the kids get free lunch, and the average income is 25,000 a year. Most people in this area where raised like I was to believe Catholics were bad people who where going to hell, added to the Bible, worshiped Mary and the saints, paid their way into heaven…

So thanks everyone who was helpful but some of you should really reevaluate how you come across to people who are hurting and just need help and a direction to go.

Huh? My comment stands, makes no difference of you are man or woman. The thread got side-tracked, but honestly, I don’t recall anyone being rude to you. 😶

God bless. I have nothing to add.

I started out Anglo-Catholic and later joined an Episcopal Church. They are not that dissimilar. I went to my church’s Tenebrae service on Wednesday. All sung in medieval plain chant and in Latin. Evensong is always done using the 1662 BCP. Nicene Creed said every Liturgy, and the Our Father is always Our Father - not Mother.

After all the sordid tales I heard from my old Anglo-Catholic parish, I half-expected to be see a drag queen celebrating the Eucharist with pink wafers and sprinkles. All with Cher crooning “Do you believe in life after love…” in the background.

The reality is not half so interesting.
