Whether the mark of the beast is spiritual or physical do you not think it is prudent to avoid these things?

Fr Echert got asked this question, specifically about the VeriChip and here is his response:

What is your belief on the “Veri Chip”?
Question from Steffen G. on 07-17-2004:
In protestant theology, the “Mark of the Beast” in implanted under the skin in the hand or forehead and no one can buy or sell with out one. Right now it is voluntary the people are getting them for “personal security” the mexican government has been “chiped”, some people in the u.s. have gotten chipped, the first a family from florida. i know this is not the “beast”, but would not this make people put down there gaurd, like 1940’s people were wery of credit cards but they are common now and people do not think about it. could it happen with the verichip/mark of beast? Lord know what can be downloaded on these chips without anyone knowing. also don’t you think that revelations as interpreted by the bible christians is errily similar to this?

Answer by Fr. John Echert on 07-17-2004: Enough so that I will refuse to allow the implantation of any such chip under my skin or within my biological system, whether it be for military purposes, commercial exchange, national or personal security, or any other reason. I cannot know for certain that such would be a fulfillment of the “mark of the beast” of revelation, but it is too close to ignore and foreign to the body God gave me. In short, it will have no place in this the body of this priest. Thanks, Steffen Father Echert

THey aren’t implanting anything in me…not just for reasons surrounding the theory of the mark of the beast etc, which does arrouse suspicion in my mind…but I have other reasons, such as I do not want to be able to be tracked at all times…I don’t want 3rd parties knowing my personal information and whereabouts…it is to personal and invades ones civil liberties…I don’t think it will ever become mandatory…at least not by the U.S…the UN might try to supercede our laws, but I believe in our constitution enough to know that the civil liberty militants will never allow this to happen…optional yes, mandatory no…think about it…Parents can not even eavesdrop on their kids telephone conversations without facing jail time…what makes you think legislation will be passed FORCING people to have chips implanted in them, considering these chips can provide real time data on an individual and be used to determine location 24/7?

Hey dumspirospero, aren’t you in the military? Because we all know who the US Government LOVES to test new things on. 😉

I wonder- with our current bent toward euthinasia, if, in the future, you could be REFUSED emergency medical treatment if you show up and are considered to have to many other problems to make the investment of health $ in you worth it!
I agree this is not good and it has deeper possible implication in the natural and spiritual realm:(

I don’t think it’s any type of mark of the beast- it hasn’t been around since the time of Jesus.

I am not comfortable with it, however. It seems to make medicine, to me at least, much too impersonal, not that it isn’t already…
Alyssa read post 21:eek: JUST DON’T DO IT!:bigyikes:

To say that it will become mandatory in this nation, no way! Pray, pray and pray.

Sweetheart, that’s just his opinion.

Wabrams He is a priest who is more knowledgable than we are,and probably more discerning in spiritual matters as well:eek:

His answer in of itself means no. What part of no, don’t you understand? We are to obey our priests even if we don’t understand.

That’s not true. Priests a just as fallible as you and I. If your interdiction were the case, were would be required to follow material (and in most regards formal) heretics like Father McBrien and Father Greeley.

I agree the Preists look after our spiritual well being and when a Priest on EWTN is uncomfortable with that I am too(even though I was before I saw that)   No chips wabrams,no matter how “good” they make it sound!

You ignore the fact that Father Echert was stating something that was loyall to church teaching. Violation of privacy is one of them, which the veri-chip clearly is against.

BTW, Hitler did have an equivilent, the members of his SS were tatooed with an identifying number, it was one of the ways the Allies were able to track them down after the war. So what was supposed to protect their medical identities and guarantee them preferential treatment ended up being misused.

Therefore, I see it as the nose of the camel in the tent.

It might be beneficial today, but who knows how it will be abused in the future. Remember that “sex ed” was for the good of the children and to alert them to health issues; now it’s used to refute parents’ religious teaching and pervert the definition of marriage.

I didn’t know that Catholics didn’t believe in the number of the Beast and the branding of people in Revelations. Did I blink during my RCIA class, maybe it was dropped in favor of Social Sin and moral consciousness.

Hey, someone on these forums has a signature line quote that goes something like this: "every evil screams only one message: ‘I am good’ "
Anyway, I don’t know if the chips will prove to be “evil” or anything, but I am just not willing to take any chances. The whole idea makes me extremely uncomfortable.

Hey it could work. It happened with several companies who supported birth control, through constant emailing they eventually ended their support of birth control.
