Why LANCE WHY!!!
This can’t be true. Is lance Armstrong really an Atheist? I was totally shocked when I heard about this. I think Differently about Lance now. Is there a celebrity that you are shocked is an atheist? Why?

CELEBATHEISTS

I am much more surprised when I hear that a celebrity does believe. Fame and fortune seem to be (usually) incompatible with religious belief; something about a camel and the eye of a needle…

Hollywood, in particular, makes people lose perspective. That’s why we have agnostic/atheist celebrities who show no evidence of solid moral beliefs wearing red string bracelets and ‘studying’ the Kabalah, or paying thousands of dollars to charlatans to explain how bits of rock and gas trillions of miles away influence their lives.

I wasn’t a fan of the guy to begin with. He dropped his wife who stood by him during his cancer in order to run around with celebrity.

At least we’ve got Mel in Hollywood looking out for us Catholics. Good old Mel… Did I mention he’s Australian…? 😛

None of those celebs shocked me, other than Lance. Lance seems like a spiritual type guy, but oh well. Hopefully he’ll come to a realization at one point in his life.

Your link includes Einstein as an Athiest.

Hmmph.

“God does not play dice with the universe.”
Albert Einstein
  • Code:
"Einstein used to speak of God so often that I almost looked upon him as a disguised theologian.*"

“To what extent are you influenced by Christianity?”

“As a child I received instruction both in the Bible and in the Talmud. I am a Jew, but I am enthralled by the luminous figure of the Nazarene.”
Code:
*"Have you read Emil Ludwig's book on Jesus?"*

"Emil Ludwig's Jesus is shallow. Jesus is too colossal for the pen of phrasemongers, however artful. No man can dispose of Christianity with a *bon mot*."

    *"You accept the historical Jesus?"*

"Unquestionably! No one can read the Gospels without feeling the actual presence of Jesus. His personality pulsates in every word. No myth is filled with such life."
– George Sylvester Viereck, “What Life Means to Einstein”, The Saturday Evening Post, 26 October 1929.

I hope he’s as wrong about Armstrong as he is about Einstein.
God bless,
RyanL

I must admit that I was surprised to see Einstein’s name there, as I am very familiar with Einstein’s phrase gott wuerfelt nicht (sp?) which, as Ryan says, means “God does not play dice”. This was in response to the development of quantum mechanics.

I’m not surprised Einstein is an atheist.
never interested in cycling so the news lance is one doesn’t shock me either.
Formula 1 driver Rubens Barrichello is a Catholic.

Glad Gorbachev is in the ambiguous category. you know what? he’s my favorite communist. if he runs for president only with Paul Martin for the president of Canada and I have to make a choice between the two, I’ll vote Gorby. he established the freedom of religion law in SU, and at least according to a russian joke homosexuals were put in prison instead of being allowed to marry.

Totaly agree with you.

Bruce Willis really got me. He claims to be a lutheran and yet makes quotes about modern religion being worthless. I enjoy a lot of his movies and I must say I am sad to hear this.

I’ll have to agree with him here. That’s why I’ll take the 2000 year old religion over any new progressive modernist inventions.

Wait, that’s probably not what he meant:rolleyes:

Lance lost my admiration when he left his wife and kids. I don’t care what races he wins - from that point on he’s a loser in my book.

ahh yes my mistake should have worded my response better. In the section about him. He states that religion was useful when people didn’t know how the Sun worked and were ignorant, he basically said in modern times religion is worthless, he later goes on to say he thinks it ridiculous that people take the Bible literally.

I would have never thought this, in a lot of his movies he prays or seems to be Christian, I would have never thought he believed the things he said. O well.

Well…it’s hard to believe in God when you think you are a God.

Ah shucks, they’ve got Lance Armstrong and all we have is Francis of Assisi

Like you i am far more amazed when I learn that a celebrity is a Christian.
After all the Bible does say that the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God.

offtpic: Your spelling is almost perfect!

Gott würfelt nicht”, but you may replace the ü with ue, if you can’t type it with your keyboard. Nouns are always capitalised in German.

Einstein was neither an atheist nor a Christian. His Weltanschauung lied somewhere between Deism and Pantheism, if I interpret his writings correctly.

There are two things which disturbs in this thread:
  1. Who cares what a celebrity thinks? They are no more important than anybody else, and I seriously doubt that most of them have an expertise on philosophy, history, or science.
  2. Quote: “Is lance Armstrong really an Atheist? I was totally shocked when I heard about this. I think Differently about Lance now.” I suspect “differently” means “less”. Great. You don’t even know this guy personally, yet you dare to judge him.

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with judging that. 😦

No, there isn’t. Unless you’re a Christian of course, then you are not supposed to judge anybody (Mt 7:1; Lk 6:37) ;).

But I doubt he did that because he is an atheist. Rather because he is an arse.
