That is really sad.😦
Lets stop bashing the Bishops and avoid being Phariseesic Catholics. Maybe they said it was sufficient because they want to place more emphasis on the interior state of the person instead of the external (don’t get me wrong, if I had it my way, everyone would be flat on their faces during mass).

Why don’t all of you who have this concern all offer a sacrifice of fasting from food and drink (water ok) from midnight till noon so that we can make up for another’s irreverence.

God Bless

Agreed! One could do cartwheels down the aisle, but that doesn’t make one more reverent. For the OP, while described as “nodding the head”, this is still a reverent bow, and a profound bow is made at the waist. The simple “head nod” bow is the correct posture when recieving Holy Communion, although I know you did not inquire. Just wanted to straighten that out!
nccbuscc.org/liturgy/girm/bul5.shtml
“The new edition of the General Instruction asks the Conference of Bishops in each country to determine the posture to be used for the reception of Communion and the act of reverence to be made by each person as he or she receives Communion. The Conference of Bishops of the United States has determined that in this country Communion will be received standing and that a bow will be the act of reverence made by those receiving. These norms may require some adjustment on the part of those who have been used to other practices, however the significance of unity in posture and gesture as a symbol of our unity as members of the one body of Christ should be the governing factor in our own actions.”

As for a situation with no kneelers, as another poster quoted correctly, one ought kneel if possible during those appointed times. Sometimes this means you are the odd man out. When my family goes to Mass at the in-laws’ parish, we are the only people kneeling and it is on the floor. On the flip side, I do not kneel at my own kneeler-laden parish because I am 36 weeks pregnant. One wants to follow the norms best as possible, but be cautious of scruples. Just follow the GIRM and be aware of your special seat at Calvary. There were no kneelers there as well. That is what I try to remember, anyway.
God Bless!

I kneel even there is no kneeler and no one else does. 🙂
When I attend a church close by my place, this young priest inherited a standing/no-kneelers church. At the Consecration, only I and another lady kneeled. A few seconds later, the priest will remind everyone about the Bishop’s directives, the Most Holy Sacrament and politely asked every one to kneel.

I really like him.

Tak

This is the place to vent. It’s a discussion forum. We come here and show our distain instead of going to our parishes.

Your suggestion of prayer and fasting is a wonderful one! We do need to pray for those who haven’t gotten the information that we have. A gentle reminder will open people’s minds to your Godly suggestion rather than admonishing those who are heartsick at the disrespect.

Pray and fast. Sometimes we do forget that although we do need a place to “air our laundry” we also need to remember the souls need a hand up.

At my parish, we have chairs and no kneelers. Pretty much everyone stands, although a few do kneel. Interestingly, during daily Mass, which is in our chapel (also chairs and no kneelers) almost every person kneels on the floor. Someone recently told me that if and when we remodel or replace seating, we must have kneelers. I hope this is true! Does anyone know?

I recently moved and now attend a church with no kneelers. Everyone stands during the Eucharistic Prayer and Consecration, which feels wrong to me. Would sitting be a more reverant posture?
Sometimes, I go to a church where there are no kneelers. I kneel anyway. It makes me feel like a rebel 🙂

The problem here is not that there are no kneelers as I presume you still have two of them in the middle of both of your legs. It would seem that your problem is that everyone else is standing. Ask your priest why and ask him if he would mind if you used your two serviceable kneelers.

Before 1980 I had never attended Mass where I did not kneel for the Eucharistic Prayers and Consecration. About 1980 our parish started to stand through the whole period and we continued doing so until about five years ago. I honestly was never able to say that one position felt any more reverent than the other. About five years ago our Bishop finally said to kneel and we did without anyone getting all bent out of shape. My legs have gone south on me so I can stand, but not kneel. I have to sit which I was told is preferable for the handicapped, but which I have to say does not feel as reverent and respectful as standing. There was a brief period before the Bishop spoke up when a young assistant pastor got some to kneel while evryone else stood. In my opinion that was worse than everyone doing either one or the other and led to more strife among the parish members than I can remember for any other disagreement.
We have always kneeled but I can see where standing could also be respectful, thinking that people stand up when a dignitary enters a room.

I went to a parish once when I was out of town and they didn’t have kneelers. I’m so used to kneeling that I couldn’t get into it. I was all out of sync. It’ doesn’t take much 🙂 I suppose I’d get used to it if we did it. But I do perfer to kneel much more. It was a beautiful parish I visited but I thought it was rude when a women went up to recieve on her tongue and was refused, they made her use her hands. Now i know it’s ok either way…sheesh.

I don’t think I’d want to go there again, if I were you. I love my parish here at home where we kneel at all the right times, and receive on the tongue from a priest any time we want to. 😃

Well luckily I had been warned before about these Parishes so I just went along. We were out of town and wanted to attend mass. I feel as you do. Anyone who wants to recieve on the tongue, can. My priest is very good about this. The thing is, I grew up Protestant so kneeling is even more important to me. It’s one of the things I love about being Catholic.

I much prefer kneeling on the floor and will often do so if alone in the pew whether or not there is a kneeler. It’s easier on me for some reason.

We stand after receiving.

I usually don’t genuflect, as I was told by Fr B that a deep bow was properly reverent.

I generally sit when in prayer, or less often stand. I very rarely kneel to pray.
Are you very tall, Hoosier?
I need the height that the kneelers give me but I would kneel on the floor if there were no kneelers.

We can receive either way in my parish. We also kneel, but I can see where standing can be reverant.

ya I can see it as well. We stand when the bride enters or when royality enters, it makes sense.

I am amazed that some Parishes don’t have kneelers. Kneeling has been the tradition of the Church for a long time. In fact does anyone know of a reference to people standing during the Consecration before Vatican II? Standing during the consecration seems to fall into the category of, “we are going to do things different now because the Church is progressive.” Kneeling shows much more reverence than standing and yes we stand when royality enters the room, but God isn’t royality…he is GOD.

I will stand for a human–kneel for God.

…and full prostration is even more reverent than kneeling! Soooooo… yea, who knows…😃
